Vous avez trouvé un bijou, bienvenue en France
merci beaucoup. nous sommes très contents de venir en France
my grandfather would say: france is butifull with out germans.... ( i am from holland ).
But have to say you found a very nice house. and i read this is the first episode of a every week. and have to say, i cannot wait for the next one.
i think your children have a good and healty life there.
all the best.
is also funny you can hear your children talk german.
@@johanv4668 thanks Johan, i really hope the Kids will like it too!
The upside-down signs first appeared in Tarn, Occitanie, and have spread nationally, but it is in Brittany that they are the most visible. The act is a protest by local farmers to raise visibility of the challenges they face.
Bonjour.
Normally, old houses are naturally ventilated because doors, windows and roofs do not close very well.
But it is highly recommended that, at least in the humid rooms (kitchen, bathroom,…) you install a VMC (French for Ventilation Mecanique Contrôlée or Controlled Mechanical Ventilation CMV single flow but with humidity detection)
It runs 24/7, adapts the speed of the extraction to the current humidity and does bring confort by reducing the overall humidity.
It is even compulsory if you change doors and windows to modern ones as the natural air flow through badly sealed elements will be no more there.
Have fun.
Do not forget that old houses do not like cement (Portland) as it is not permeable to water vapour. Lime and Sand in some places and Lime and hemp in other places are recommended. Cork is also to be considered.
@@eugeniegrandet8077 wow, thanks for all those Tips!
Wow,the Wisteria and the Entry+the kitchen and livingroom right away, all the stone, wood and the chimneys…i‘m in love, beautiful❤
Greetings from Australia. Your house is very interesting and full of possibilities. A great place for children to grow up and explore.
We are renovating a similar house in Normandy. When we returned to the house after 6 months, we also found mold. We treated it and then bought a big dehumidifier (costing around €175), which removed any remaining moisture from the air. Good luck - you've found a real beauty! We look forward to seeing more videos.
thank you. our first step is to get new stoves. We found that with just one stove on it was already a huge difference...
This home is already beautiful when you will be finished renovating it will be amazing
It looks amazing. It will be wonderful when you get it finished. Meanwhile It seems pretty habitable. Enjoy
The farmers in france were protesting and they turned the signs upside down
When we didn't live in our Bulgarian stone house we put a bag of dehumidifier in every room. Now we have air-conditioning on every floor. It takes away buckets of water! 👌
Love the house I think your children will enjoy it in the future. Congratulations I think you bought well. 👍
What an amazing house & project!! Looking forward to seeing your journey to restoration 🙌🥰
the best thing you have to do is use lime because the wal lcan breathe
Thanks for sharing, great possibilities, beautiful land. Lots of wonderful memories to be made for your family. Best wishes from Australia
What an interesting place. I really like it! 🇨🇦
Thanks! Greetings to Canada!
Bonjour! Very nice house, with a unique character and many details like the stairs. Looking forward to see your next videos! We also just landed here in France in central from the Netherlands.
Lovely house garden and location. Looking forward to the renovation.

The house looks fantastic! Great video tour! Best wishes to you and your family!
Wow that is a big old house beautiful ❤❤❤
Thanks for the tour. My wife and I recently spent 5 years in Germany and had a great time. Mold
mediation is best accomplished with red wine vinegar or a lemon based solution. Bleach will mot kill mold, it will only remove the topical layer.. good luck.
thanks for the advice. I really hope we don't need it in the future when we have new stoves and the house will not be empty over a whole winter...but you never know, your advice might be handy at some point...
Why red wine vinegar, wouldn't white be better?
Good luck. Beautiful area. I’ve stayed in that region. Stunning. Hi from Australia.
thank you! let me know when you come back and need a place to set up your tent...
Hi neighbour 🇦🇺

This Will be a beautiful trasnformation 😊
I enjoyed seeing your house, thank you and I look forward to seeing the renovation.
thank you! next video will be about the garden. Coming Friday I hope
The house is so beautiful 😍
You will have such fun on this renovation . We renovated over 20 years ago and adore living in France. Nowadays you have the huge benefit of google translate and high speed broadband. Are you doing the renos yourself? Good luck et Bon courage👏👏👏👏🥂🥂
thank you. we will try to do most ourselves excluding electricity and some openings in the old stonewalls...still have no good broadband actually, but we are working on that! It is true though, I couldn't manage without online translations
Thank you for your vlog. What wonderful original features your house has, and in a gorgeous setting.
Thought I spotted bamboo through the upstairs window. If it is the clumping kind you're ok, if it's the spreading kind beware, it needs immediate eradication or it could undermine your house! Bonne continuation.
Love the wisteria! Wishing you the best as you renovate this house for your family. ❤
Wisteria is a lovely looking vine but it is essentially an invasive plant from Asia and strangles and smothers existing trees. Due to its rapid growth and spread, some wisterias can become quite heavy, putting a strain on the object or structure that it is attached to. It can spread in very small nooks and crannies, so placing near a structure such as your home is not advisable. It is also associated with a fungus.
House has lots of potential it s big enough all family Good Luck ❤
Very cool house with many possibilities for all the rooms. Congratulations!
It really is!
Lovely house. The wisteria is gorgeous
What a lovely big house

Nice house ! A lot of potential with the extra rooms to renovate ! See a clothes line for winter drying if no dryer ! Or to just air out what is needed ….!
Definitely use lime mortar to fix walls … it breathes … rather than cement ! But do ask for opinions ….😛
Looks like an amazing place in a beautiful area. All the best to you and your family as you make it a home!
You made a perfect decision.

Beautiful house, looking forward to following your journey. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Looks beautiful…. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. It is really beautiful, but also a lot of work still...
Upside down signs are part of the farmer's protest. From what I have seen, the humidity is largely from the stone walls not being able to breathe. Not sure of course. For a large house it certainly has an odd layout. Everything obviously added on as times changed and needs were met better. It could be beautiful if layed out properly as the rooms are certainly generous in size. Best wishes from Australia
A big problem with the humidity was that nobody was there and the house was cold all winter. after we started heating it with the only remaining wood stove (which will be replaced soon) it got way better. so we are relatively sure, that this won't be a problem in the long term...thanks for watching. Where in Australia are you?

Love those stone walls
Us too. And interestingly there was only mould, where the stone walls were covered with plaster
I just gave you my first like and subscribed to your channel. Hope I like it. So far so good. 7/13/24 Panama City, Florida. I just found you today, so I'm so excitedto start at the beggining wit you guys.
Me too. Best of luck from Barcelona.
Congratulations, you have found such a gem of a property! Gorgeous features all over. I'd say: don't take the mold problem lightly. Black mold is very, very dangerous and can create havoc with one's health. I can guarantee you have mold spores all over the place. If I were you, I'd buy an ozone generator and let it run for a few hours in each room. Because O3 is also toxic it would be best to leave the house during applicaitons, especially because of the kids, let's say while on vacation.
Good luck and am looking forward to see how you're going to transform an already beautiful place into an even more amazing one! First time I catch a first episode in one of these renovation channels. For the records, you now have 1.23K subscribers. I want to be here to celebrate the first 100K and we'll take it from there!
thank you so much...I am really amazed at how many people have watched this video and subscribed!
@@oinatao Here's wishing you hundreds of thousands more views and subs! Back to the mold thing: Take it to heart. I know of a few people who had their health destroyed for not taking black mold seriously. An ozone generator is relatively cheap. Several models avail. at Amazon. You can't put a price on your and your family's health. I loved your property so much I think I'm here ofr thelong run. Best of luck and a great life to all of you!
ok, I will have a look at the ozone generator. so far my impression is that the mould was a "one-time thing" because of the winter where no one was there, some windows were not closed properly and on top of that, it was extremely humid. Thank you for your concern. I know the feeling of seeing a video and thinking: "oh man, why?", and you`ve put your concern in words that still are appreciative and constructive. So where are you living?
@@oinatao I'm a 69 yr old Brazilian-American. Moved to US in '86 and now I live in Newton, Massachusetts state. Due to an auto-immune disease that almost killed me I was forced into early retirement. Thank you for asking. Best, Pedro

Great house with lots of charm and potential. Looking forward to hearing about your renovation plans, budget, costs etc. Quick question - did you buy with your friend to share the house and are you planning to live full time there for just one year or permanently? Thanks for sharing your renovation journey!
so the plan is to turn this in to a place where groups can share holidays, workshops or seminars, with probably around 14-16 people in the house and the option to have people camp in the garden. Our plan as a family is to live there for one year (basically one school year for the kids) and then move back after the renovations but come back for holidays with friends regularly
What a magical house, very curious what your plans are and if they include separate entrances to the bedrooms. A fireman told me once the kind of layout you have now is dangerous in case of a fire. They will have a hard time locating these rooms that are at the back of another room. But maybe you already are aware of that.
We want to add some new entrances on the ground floor, but according to the workers we spoke with it is rather difficult to add entrances to the upper floor (very expensive, because the walls are so thick, but potentially also not allowed by the municipality). However, we will make sure, that there are large windows over which you can flee in case of fire in these rooms. thanks for your concerns, Episode 3 will be all about our plans! Stay tuned.
It would be interesting to know a bit about the story of the house and what matrial were used. Beautiful house.
Congratulations! But I would check for leaks to the roof and flashings.😊
thanks! we already found some...the roof is pretty good, but the drainage is a mess...
A great buy. Just to mention that black mold is very toxic and it is advisable to wear gloves and a face mask which is suitable for mold removal when dealing with it. Mold spores are likely to be on parts of the room other than the walls too. The suggestion another viewer made to use a dehumidifier is a good one. I wish you well with your project and will be watching it with interest.
thank you! we have a small dehumidifier, that we also used, but found the wood stove to be much more effective...
@@oinatao An even better idea. I grew up with wood stoves, they are great.
😂The upside-down signs were temporary. They stood for as a protest against the government from the farmers last spring 😉
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Chlorine bleach won't get rid of mould, you need to use white vinegar.
thanks. it seems to have worked. it wasn't chlorine bleach, but something with chlorine in it specifically for mould. but should it reappear it will try the vinegar
the upside down town signs are to indicate the people's unhappiness with the government/EU, and their notions that we can create food without farms.... it's a way to show support for farmers
The roof is leaking, causing mold. You can see water marks on ceiling. Fix roof first.
That's what I thought as well at first. so I went up on the roof, some of the tiles were broken and I changed those. but it turned out it was also the moisture from the open window below, which also explains why the walls had mould.
Beautiful house 👍❤️love the wisteria! Reminds me of my parents house in Portugal, looking forward to see the renovations, what part of France are you in ?
the house is located between Dax and Bayonne!
New subscriber from the U.S. and looking forward to watching your French Home restoration journey. You didn't mention which city in southern France this home is. Would you be open to mention where it is?
it is between bayonne and dax.
Could you please let us know in more detail what your plans are-with a diagram. Also when do you plan to move & commence the renovations? Australia 🇦🇺
Did you see the most recent video yet? I tried to show what we have planned in it.
Hi, I am a new subscriber from South Africa. I love the wide range lens camera work. That is your wife ?
Thank you. My wife did most of the filming, yes...
Are you able to add more windows, there’s a lot of space. Do you have plans for renovation, perhaps architectural plans?
Hi Graham, we will ad some windows. the next video is going to be about the garden and the one in two weeks will be about the changes we want to make. I will also show some plans then...

@@oinatao Hat keine Eile, an die Arbeit! 🛠
There are several reasons. One is that part of the drainage around the house has probably been destroyed by roots and the rainwater is therefore not draining well. The second problem is that we haven't heated and ventilated the house for eight months over a very rainy winter. The materials are ok, I think. After heating for a few days, the humidity was also normal. In the future, we will insulate the roof, install new wood-burning stoves and ensure that the house is aired occasionally, even if we are not there for a long time.
Will you be keeping this as a holiday home? Or, is the intention that you will move permanently?
Was the electrical and plumbing all set to go when you moved in?
You actually did very well in setting up the rooms that you choose to use, already cozy.
Love the ceilings, the wood, and of course all the stone.
The settings of these older homes are generally all so beautiful....they definitely prioritized settings years ago.
By Canadian standards, 303 years old is really old lol.
Where, in France is it?
♥️🇨🇦
Hi Eirene, so it is between Dax and Bayonne. The plan is to live there for a year, have the kids learn the language and have the experience of living in a different culture. the plan is to go back after a year and to use the house for holidays with several families, groups or even seminars and workshops. The electricity and plumbing are kind of working, although from three toilets only one is really usable. Thanks for watching!
Bon Chance from the USA! beautiful beach but sad to see graffiti. The US often sets a bad precedent.
I think it is understandable to try to make these bunkers a little bit more "friendly". And sometimes the Graffiti is better than others...where in the US are you from, Celine?
Do you mind if i ask how much the house was?
I will probably make a video explaining a bit more about the cost, what we expect to pay for renovations and so on, but I can tell you right now that it was a little under 500K and then the additional costs for taxes and so on. And the house is 340 square metres and the property is around 6000 square metres
Really nice house. But don't spoil the interior by putting fake rustical lamps and other kitschy stuff in it.
that's exactly how we think about the house too
Are you moving permanently to France or just a holiday home

I would love that, but my wife doesn't like to be on camera and the kids are too young to make that decision. my oldest daughter will be 16 shortly and might decide to be in the videos then.
Where is your mask silly man!! That stuff is dangerous
I actually wore a mask for the first step, where I sprayed everything with chlorine. (I didn't film it though, because I was afraid the stuff would damage the camera). But you are absolutely right that a mask would have been good for the washing as well.
a dream house!
Hi, upside-down road signs are due to french farmers expressing resent and anger towards french buraucracy and political rules and standards that are sometimes too difficult to apply and are "upside down themselves" and too far form reality...goog luck !
here in Germany they sometimes hang rubber boots on the street signs. It was really interesting to see how many signs were upside down in the different regions. in the north it seems much more prevalent than in the south
France is not alone.
