I went to Bihar School in Munger back in 1993. It was an awful experience and I warn anybody to think carefully about going. I have no doubt of swami`s power but he drove around in an expensive white land rover all around the palace of the school, despite it being situated in the poorest area of India. The students were toxic towards new comers. I passed armed guards as I entered the compound and had my passport taken on registration. The talks which were supposed to be on offer for westerners over the days of the yoga convention, were largely in Hindi. Accommodation was just the floor in a room of many others. When I talked to swami he was aloof and I did not find him warm at all. The atmosphere was industrial and unfriendly and after some days both my friend and I decided to leave but it took more than a day for us to get our passports back. It was an expensive and disappointing trip. I had come from Ireland for the Yoga Convention and it taught me a valuable lesson about big schools.
This beautiful and inspiring dialogue has given a glimpse of not only Swamiji's extraordinary life but also an idea of the essential Satyananda yogic practices like Yoga Nidra and consistency in Awareness. It is a delight to see Swami ji's lightening smile as if healing us through sheer gentility.
Congratulations Sheel for bringing us up close to Swami ji ,his views and his devotion to his Guru. Must have been an arduous journey of 60 years from an ice factory room to what it is today . So much brilliance and knowledge.
Great Interview. Thanks . Prime Minister Modiji has also put Yoga in the Global Map . While watching fhis vedio a sudden thought occured to me . Why not establish a Yoga School in evey village ,town , School and Hospitals ,the Military Uniits etc . and 2 million Temples across the country to sustain our precious Heritage to the next generation. I am a devoute Hindu.Humble Namaskaram to His Holiness and the Interviewer . Jai Hind !
