Yes, he brought back back some of the IWABO technicality. I hope he does more of that. I know Courtney has expressed she wishes Mike would let loose a little more.
Last song from them I remember this heavy was Cellar Door, but that was more dark and ominous, while this is more groovy and angry. This is a lot easier to bob your head to. Almost makes you want to get hydraulics mods in your suspension so your car can bump along with it.
i love how rock and metal used to be very much into signaling every transition to a big moment with a huge fill, or something like that, but eventually took on the hip-hop and edm vibe of leaving space before a big moment so it hits harder
I don't know if you noticed the little melodic lead guitar riffs in the later choruses, but that alone's gotta be the frosting that makes this one of the most epic metal songs to come out this year. I can't make out what the lower notes are, but the main motif of the higher notes is based around a little flicker between the 5th and minor 6th I think. Gives it this kind of old-school Glassjaw kind of vibe where it's super melodic and super dissonant overlaid on top of each other both at the same time (probably via Phrygian mode in this case, which has elements of both).
The first riff got me like “woof woof SKRR”
Lol haven't heard it described in such perfect onomatopoeia before 😂.
Mike was in a zone. Love this grove and anger.
If you listen to it again, focus on what’s going on in the background. Mike is absolutely going nuts. Playing some very technical stuff.
I would love to see/hear Mike's guitar playthrough of this song.
You and me both!

Angel eyes was pretty heavy as well
Mike writes and plays pretty much every instrument on the recordings... at least he always has.
Yes, but i think he has also let Zev do more of the album recordings on the last couple EP's and maybe this album
This song is a Stinkface maker, that riff is NASTY
" it makes guitarists want to learn it still and cover the song"
