    Duke sounds great for cold/hot climate, also Aravaipa takes 14-120 temps, but sounds like Duke has a better taste.

    Gary do you know much about the brazos belle avocado tree? Is that a pure Mexican variety or a cross between Mexican and Guatemalan?

    If you don't graft it. It's gonna take years to produce fruit

      When using avocado tree is an extremely marginal climates, using a seedling known variety makes some sense. I found out that most all of the trees at the Duke Orchard we're grown from seed and not grafted and they come out remarkably homogeneous but they will take longer to fruit as you say

    I'm guessing they must be somewhat self firtle, since they are similar in inbred trees? Are they A or B type polinisers? Just chopped the hass scion off its duke rootstock. wondering what avo mates it might like?

    I thought you couldn't get seedlings to taste true to form?

    • @ScaryHairyGary
      @ScaryHairyGary  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The trees up in the Oroville orchard seem to be all coming true to type. They have the same exact leaf and it looks like the same exact fruit regardless of what tree you look at. The daughter of the farmer who originally planted these trees told me that he just sprouted them from seed. Also, the avocado trees are mixed into an orange tree orchard and there are many naturalizing Avocado trees out of the orchard grid which are obvious random seedlings and those trees have grown up to exhibit the same qualities and foliage and fruit quality as the parents. I believe it is such an inbred population that there is very little variation between generations of plants.

      @@ScaryHairyGary do sell seeds internationally? I know you don’t sell trees but just curious if you have exporting license to sell seeds to Australia?
