Great, informative video, hopefully some of these prototypes survived and will eventually be found/restored. I thought the malibu had a hint of Studebaker in the front grill/headlights. The Berkeley, as hideous as the front end is probably would have been a rugged/capable vehicle had it been made. Wish they made a modern version of the j-10, those were always nice trucks.
I’m really hoping Chrysler is hiding some of these prototypes. It would be a shame if they were all destroyed. I actually didn’t think about the Studebaker influence but now that you mention it, I see it… kinda cool. Notice the Berkley has got just about the exact body as the 63 Wagoneer… I wonder what exactly was the difference when it came down the knotty gritty specs. A J10 modern version would’ve been cool. I almost ended up with one instead of my 86 Grand Wagoneer! Thanks for watching and commenting! Subscribe for WAGONEER WEDNESDAY’S @ 7PM! - Garrett / SLA’S GARAGE
I’d have to agree with you! Maybe if they would’ve raised the headlights up higher and gave it a different grille design. Something was off with it lol. Thanks for watching and commenting! Subscribe for Wagoneer Wednesday’s @ 7PM! - Garrett / SLA’S GARAGE
Fun pictures of the proposals. Kaiser knew that they had to modernize the Willys designs and in the end I think they came up with some handsome designs.
The first reminds me a bit of the International Travelall. I definitely prefer the grill on the second, and the over all look. I think the actual production version in '63 got it right. I'm also a huge fan of the Gladiator pickup. A great looking truck.
Interesting connection with the Travelall comment, I agree! I love the 63 Wagoneer grille and that whole front end look. Looks great on the Gladiator too! Tough! Thanks for watching and commenting! As a Pacific War/Pearl Harbor historian and former owner/driver of Land Rover's vehicles and Rover cars (between 1964 and 1993) and the owner of two Jeeps starting in 2012, I'm deeply interested in the history of the Jeep and its development. I know the first production Jeep came off the assembly line in 1941. There's a bar built onto the passenger side dash of my 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon that says "Jeep Since 1941." I hope you'll continue looking into the origins of the Jeep Wagoneer. Keep up the excellent work. There are hundreds of thousands if not millions of us who love all things Jeep---and even a few of us who are also Land Rover owners. (The Land Rover of 1948 grew out of a surplus WWII Willy's Jeep.) Thank you for this excellent video! Andy McKane, 27 December 2023, Maunaloa, Molokai, Hawaii.

Chrysler bought Jeep/ AMC in 1987. My Jeep is built by AMC, it’s a 1986. There’s no AMC badges on the exterior. However there are a few AMC logos found in the interior, like on the seat belt buckles for example. Thanks for watching and commenting! @@wagonworks803 I was thinking your Wagoneer was built around the transition from AMC to Chrysler. I had a 1977 Wagoneer for a little while that I found on a used car lot because I wanted the tilt column out of it to put into my 1981 CJ5 Jeep and it had an AMC 360 in it that we wanted to pull out and build to put in another Jeep!! I love my CJ5 Jeep but I also miss the 1977 Jeep J10 Comanche truck I used to have as well. Bought that one from my neighbor. Wished I would have never sold any of those vehicles.
Definitely. Perhaps it wad laying the idea and ground works down for the Cherokee model. Thanks for watching and commenting! Subscribe for more, check out my other Jeep prototype videos here th-cam.com/play/PLL-HJjKvWes65Jm3hfelNpSykWPCJYfCO.html - Garret / Sla Automotive Art

That first prototype looks ahead of its time, those doors look way too modern for the time and front looks like the late 60s early 70s Wagoneer

You have an 86 Wagoneer? Is it AMC or Chrysler built? If it's built by AMC, it will have an AMC badge on the back as well as denoting it on the title.

Kona Blue
That just may be an option for the ol Grand Wagoneer. Thanks for the suggestion and thank you watching Wagoneer Wednesday’s on Sla’s Garage!
