I got 400 miles on my x2 r-spec and i love it. It's small and nimble to get through the tight trails that i ride, plenty of power for the woods, it handles pretty much any condition I've been so far( mud, rock, roots, off camber turns, medium hill climbs). The 2 biggest selling points of this buggy to me were, 1. Yamaha dependability, i got a couple buddies who thrash their yamaha buggies hard and they keep on a going. 2. Price, 14k, at that price I'm 10k below what my buddy has in his General Ride Command and my X2 goes everywhere it goes.
Just bought a New 2019 X2 Special Edition Matt Black and put the heater , hard cab ,winch, and mirrors on it . I was going to buy the new Can Am Maverick Sport but I couldn't get the deal I wanted because the local dealers had no 2019's left over. I did test drive the 4 seater version 100 HP it was a blast to drive but Yamaha offered a hard cab and can am didn't for the sport . I am quite pleased with my decision on the X2 it is a nice looking unit and I can't wait to take it out for a spin. And of course if it is as reliable has the Yamaha's I had in the past I Have nothing to worry about at all .
Frank rose i almost did the same but i take the rspec only because with the se the weight go over 750kg and here in quebec its not trail legal... nice machine
I was looking for a utv for hunting. Speed doesn’t really equate in my world. I bought a can am commander because the wolverine didn’t have a dump bed or a tilt wheel. Glad to see they have incorporated these options. I will have to check em out again.
Summed it up in the last few minutes of the video. You may want more power but do you really need it? Yeah, my metric is I’ll go with the Yamaha reliability.
I just drove the X2 (standard...not Rspec) yesterday, and here are my thoughts. I compared this side by side with a 2019 Can-Am Commander XT 800R. The Commander had a little more power, but the top speed felt about the same. The throttle response was a little more aggressive on the Commander. The seating and ergonomics were better on the Commander (I'm 5'11" and I drove with the seat all the way back in the X2). The biggest issue I had with the X2 is that even though the bed can carry 600lbs, you cannot sit on the tailgate. What were they thinking? But overall, my favorite features of the X2 were the lack of noise (for hunting) and the price.
I'll bet it's a blast, if you can sit in it comfortably. We went to the dealer, with checkbook in hand, and Pioneer 500 on the trailer. We didn't even get past sitting in it- couldn't keep my arm inside the machine, and that should bolster thing was digging into my shoulder. It amazes me that almost nothing is mentioned about this in the reviews. We sit comfortably in our P-500 (50" machine)- 2500 miles to prove it. We just went to a cf-moto dealer and drove their 50" zforce 800, and the zforce 1000 (60" machine) and had tons more room. We have also tested a Polaris 60" machine and had lots of room in that as well. I really want a Wolverine, and I hope they fix this issue soon, but being a Japanese company, I won't hold my breath. Extremely disappointed.
Thanks for the video I sat in the X2 and it was uncomfortable and it was very small and then I sat in the Kawasaki Teryx 2 seater it came with two 25 gallon storage containers behind each seat that are watertight a really nice bed for LED headlights not 2 like Yamaha a full size front bumper a little more ground clearance and bigger tires and it came with a three-year factory warranty that didn't cost me anything and the Fox Podium shocks are great once you adjust them to where you like them and it's very easy it just has a knob on each shock
Got to test one on yamahas Conquer Dirt Demo Tour last week.Three years ago i rode the first wolverine which i found rode better in the rolling bumps.Power steering was better on the new one(More feel, more precise).Power was good but didn,t blow me away(700 raptor owner wish they had the YXZ there). They had a X4 with a full cab system(Wiper and all),that unit rode better and was the most refined SXS i ever driven(Cab system cuts down alot on noise, very car like).Biggest complaint was getting in it compared to the old unit, not for anybody over 6ft tall or over 60 years old.
I recent purchased a 2019 Yamaha Wolverine x2 R Spec. We purchased many accessories as well to help our big purchase last longer. Skid plate was missing 2 spring clips. Both rock sliders were damaged. They gave 30% off witch was fine and I was happy, but I can only use one as there is weld on the inside of the frame. Not fit and finish. I can grind the weld out but its just going to rust out now. Not fit and finish at all. Bike came with a big scratch on the back.the yamaha Windshield we returned because we were told there was not a fix for it and we had to add plumbing foam on it so it did not scratch the hood. Brake line just falls out and rubs on the skid plate because the hole in the bike was drilled to big. Won't take long to cut through the line and im not taping up or using zip ties on a brand new bike. Some bolts fell out from under the bike day one. Plastic plate was flaping around. I replaced them so all good there.not happy with the brakes. i think Low power on top end and feels very sluggish. Dealership was amazing. My dad leans on the center storage box to get in and out and its cracking all ready. I'm worried he will put his elbow through it and cut him self. I cant tell him not to because he has dementia and will just forget. I might try and add fiber glass but would love to use something that does not look home made.just leting people know I'm disappointed in the fit and finish and yamaha as a company. Emailed yamaha with no response in over 3 weeks so i said lets call. 3hrs of google to find there number 1-800-267-8577. Lady was so pissed at me and pretty much told me to fix it my self. Her exact words were just file the frame down and add some paint. Can't wait to by a C F moto 5 year warranty and from the research I did they back it.Thank you.
That sucks I'm sorry to hear that I almost went with a X2 but when I saw the Kawasaki Teryx and how much more comfortable it felt and everything else about it I went with it haven't had one problem whatsoever it's a little louder which isn't a problem to me and you can feel the heat in the cab but in winter it's no problem in the summertime I just plug a 12 volt fan in the outlet but either way you look at it if it's a hundred degrees outside it's going to be hot no matter what you're driving
Hey Dirt Trax, did you guys jump it any? What about power slides? I’m waffling between sport utility or pure sport. I really like the X2, but the top speed and the suspension travel bother me a little.
It's a great trail machine. Really performs well in the woods, mud, rock and roots. Great machine to get out on the trails with your buddies and cruise around and play. I love it, it goes everywhere the big 1000cc sport buggies go and it's A LOT cheapers lol
We didn't go too wild in the Wolverine X2, but like Arick Hook says this isn't the focus of this machine. Rides great on trails and roads and provides quality utility capabilities. If you're looking to blast around though, the RZR is for you.
I’ve been thinking about this a bit. We just did a ride on the Devil Ance and a portion of the Buffalo Mountain sections of Hatfield-McCoy. We just rode at Haspin Acres yesterday. It’s a pretty gnarly rocky woods. I ride a 2009 Grizzly 550 currently. I like to slide it in the corners, play in the mud occasionally, and really enjoy rocky trails and creek beds in the woods. When I do jump the Grizz, it’s just small jumps and small whoops. I’m going to give this machine a serious look next year.
I'm still waiting for one that fits in a full size truck bed. I still have a '07 Rhino 450 and a '09 50" RZR that do. The Rhino is running pretty good, but SLOW. The RZR is quick enough but no bed capacity for hunting or pulling a trailer. Plus I'm tired of the RZR repair bills.
That wheel travel seems really low v the earlier models - 8.7 & 8.9?!! Those are Viking numbers. the old Wolverines got 9.7 front and 10.6 rear...wth Yamaha?
Finally yamaha comes out with something that checks all the boxes oh wait suspension travel 🤨. Under 9 inches of travel front and back is so disappointing in my eyes.
Come on Yamaha, this is not that hard; put that sweet 1000 triple (998cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline three-cylinder) in there, keep it priced competitively and watch your market share grow! Take my money!
No doubt that 998cc triple is fast! Reliable! and bang for the buck. But Torque and quiet running of the 847cc in a narrow less travel capacity machine might be more manageable? One thing for sure,,, Yamaha has the reliable game matched with Honda. Now you just pick the ride that fits.
My father just picked up the 2019 r spec, I’m 6’2” and the leg room is horrible. There is plenty of room to move the pedals down 4 inches and they def should from factory . I wouldn’t recommend for any one over 6ft
6'2 and I'd agree. They definitely could have deepened the footwell for the pedals or moved them back a bit. To hit the gas my leg is at 90 degrees the entire time and have to lift my leg up to hit the breaks. . Great for short runs, long trail not so much. It's a beautiful machine though.
What's with you guys and being Gaga over a single handle tailgate. Yamaha's double latch tailgate kept the whole body from shifting when you had an 800 lb elk in the back. Many of these new thin-skinned vehicles have a terrible tailgate that's falling apart. I have a Yamaha engineer asked me about the tailgate latches and I told him to leave them alone we don't want a cheap tailgate that falls apart
Wouldn't have it. Companies making them tool complicated, like cars no body can afford to have them worked on. Just give me a plan old carburetor linked control to give it gas. It no wonder you have to be rich or have good credit to buy anything fun anymore, I'll just stick with my old Polaris 500 sportsman.
Honestly you can thank the EPA for that.. Fuel injection allows these vehicles to run almost lean which cuts down on emissions. I actually like it on my Grizz. Starts like a champ every time and never needs adjusting but yes, its pricier. Also no secondary pull start unfortunately.
It has a CVT similar to the Grizzly. There is a belt. I saw on the website that they have a 10 year belt warranty now. I have a 2009 Grizzly and have not killed the belt yet.

Well said. Some of our testers thought the same thing.
Arick Hook this is why I’ve been looking at them for everything you just said
It's a YAMAHA thing , If I have to explain it you wouldn't understand . By the way , if you are gonna talk smack don't ask me for a tow .
the fact that its so quiet in the cab is awesome.
100 percent! If you want to go on long rides the noise is a real factor after a while.
Thanks for that. Buying a 2019 tomorrow, with 150 hours.
Just bought a New 2019 X2 Special Edition Matt Black and put the heater , hard cab ,winch, and mirrors on it . Wish yamaha had some discount or rebate for the X2
theyre hot sellers...as soon as the demand cools, youll see those rebates

the noise is still there. its just behind you, instead of being between you and your passenger.
Awesome editing in this
I bought one. I put 28s blackwater evolution. love it.
no clutch work? I see Yam. has a clutch kit for oversized tires.
I'll bet it's a blast, if you can sit in it comfortably. We went to the dealer, with checkbook in hand, and Pioneer 500 on the trailer. I wish yamaha would put this motor in the kodiac and grizzly models
why ? I need to sell 1400cc Atv so every hillbilly would buy one
No but it would be able to compete with can am and palaris imo
@@jody-michaelmaynard2043 they do compete, na, exceed them in reliability. 700cc is pretty stout for a 700lbs machine.
And the suspension and offer a 2up
My next purchase... no questions. X2 r spec and a good set of tracks. My sportsman 1000xp is going up for sale real soon so I can have one

I see Yamaha is still keeping the old Rhino alive.
And why not, it was awesome ? I found it odd the viking was supposed to replace the rhino when really, this is the replacement machine.
Hey Dirt Trax, did you guys jump it any? What about power slides? I’m waffling between sport utility or pure sport. I really like the X2, but the top speed and the suspension travel bother me a little.
If you're looking to power slide and jump... this isn't the machine for you bud
Arick Hook I love everything about it except for the travel. I may end up with a RZR after all.

I put mine 2019 Wolverine X4 is the bed of my 2017 F350. Tight but fits.
can you put a trailer hitch on it and tow for utility?
2000 lb towing capacity
Great video. I just bought a 2016 honda pioneer, which is somewhat similar to this. Glad to see how this machine does
Right on. Quality purchase right there. Enjoy!

it's still no general or Can am... but it'll due until A Japanese company ups the anti to 100 hp in a usable side by side.
Agreed!
70hp will tow 100hp home is all I'm sayin.

Right? If the handle breaks you're screwed...the latch system at least gave you a fallback.
please review the base model rzr 570. Bone basic for someone who wants to SxS my way to the river with their dog since my quad wont.

Did that feller in the video cut his chin just below his lower lip while shaving and leave a toilet paper bit on his face?
First Honda’s the best
Cole Devore you cant be the best if your not really completing in the class ... i mean the pioneer??? Really!
Brady Loughner you can’t be in the class if you can’t last in the mud neither. Honda is the most reliable hands down.
im a die hard honda rider but Yamaha is my first pick in utilities
dickfacepeterson, my next pick will definitely be the Yamaha Grizzly especially if they plan to shove this engine in the grizzly
dickfacepeterson, my next pick will definitely be the Yamaha Grizzly especially if they plan to shove this engine in the grizzly
can am way better
