@@Retirementbliss Your team is making the same elementary mistakes over and over every game, and you're OK with it? Then you didn't go to the same University of Arkansas that I went to. I was taught the value of improvement.
I'm beginning to understand more and more why TG was benched at Boise State. This late in the season and his reads, checkdowns and missed opportunities are still as high as they were in the beginning of the season. OL - seemingly has the same problem as TG as well, it's like we can not recognize and adjust to the different rushing schemes ( twist, stunts and blitz's) #76 - Blackstock.....just goes without even saying..😡😡 #13 - That young man needs to piece of humble pie the size of Texas. D- as always keeping us in the game and definitely our strongest asset. Special Teams - We all seen it, enough said. Sponsors: Many Thanks and your truly appreciated !🤟
Here’s my thing about Blackstock, and even Harris. You heard DJ clearly say when TG threw that horrendous interception, that this is a different Petrino than what he knows. I believe, and I’m sorry to say this, but I will provide examples, the game of college football that we know today, has just passed him by unfortunately. When we played Texas last week, and our offensive linemen Amarion Harris was lined up against a 5 star defensive linemen. The commentators got into about the second quarter calling for Petrino to make a scheme change to help our “blue light special” o linemen against a “louis vitton” 5 star defensive linemen where our running back or tight end would help chip block that guy. We never seen the adjustment the entire game. It’s almost like this team is in a straight free for all, completely miscommunication among Petrino and Pittman, and even Mateo’s and Pittman. Pittman said he had no reason as to why Braylon Russell didn’t play against La Tech. This should be a game where people like malichi singleton , AND Braylon Russell get all the touches to help develop the young talent on this team, but instead we’re using all of our starters against a not good team. And I believe we have good talent, better talent than La Tech, I just believe there’s a lot of confusion on this team because our coaches can’t seem to get this crap together. Very hard to watch, let alone cheer on such ugly football. Thanks for this amazing content 4th and 5! I look forward to this content almost more than the actual “game” because tape never lies. I wish more people would simply just re watch these games a couple times. God bless you and yours DJ, and the lady Katie you mentioned. I’ve learned from experience, God sends his toughest battles to his toughest soldiers 🫡 God bless.
@@jacksonlee3771 kj owns every statistical record at Arkansas. Yards, touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, you name it. Taylen will be forgotten in 3 years time.
I think Green will get considerably better with another off-season to develop under BP, but I seriously hope we manage to keep Singleton as well. TG just has extremely rare physical gifts and athleticism which make him extremely dangerous, but he has to continue grinding and putting that work in as well as dedicating countless hours in the film room. Regardless of whoever is QB1, it's going to be crucial that we can put a consistently capable offensive line on the field next year. The extra $$$ from the new revenue sharing plan that is supposed to take effect should certainly help with that. In this game, everything starts in the trenches -- and there's no question that our O-line has been much more of a liability this season than an asset. I'm confident that Coach Petrino's 2nd-year offense will look considerably better, and I'd say the same for T-Will's 3rd-year D as well. Retaining our two coordinators and not completely shaking up the program are two of the biggest reasons that I'm not onboard the 'Fire Sam Pittman' bus as of yet. Most CFB analyst projections had us finishing 4-8 this year, whereas I predicted 6-6 to 7-5 -- and clearly we're still on schedule with that. Hopefully this team manages to finish strong against Mizzou, finally breaking that ridiculous streak, and then maybe they can go win that bowl game to help carry some positive momentum into 2025. We shall see... #WPS
@@EazyE-501 I beg to differ. TG has issues he's carrying from Boise and just doesn't have the football intelligence to play his position to it's potential with Bobby P. Malachi will also have a second offseason with Petrino and I HOPE he beats TG out in Spring and Fall. If he doesn't then he clearly isn't as capable as I think he is
@ sadly there is truth to this. I’m stationed in Idaho and live in Boise. This literally the same TG I watched up here - inaccurate/inconsistent passing, can’t read progressions, and relies on Matt Jones like athleticism to bail him out of problems. Its why he was benched at Boise, defenses knew he couldn’t consistently make the pass so they’d double team the #1WR since it’s 70% if the time he only targets him, the DEs pressure to NOT lose outside containment, and have a CB spy TG in case he takes off. End result was games where he couldn’t out run people be benched by halftime. Games where he could out scramble them he’d look like Lamar Jackson. There was no average, always very good or very bad
Wonderful breakdown of the game. You would make a fantastic coach BUT you wouldn’t have time to do your other dozen or so jobs! Love the informative podcast. Hope Wicked was good! Part B please.
I think it's important to note that the Arkansas O-line graded out at 83.9 by PFF - their pass blocking was 86.2! and run blocking 61.9. 80 is considered "high level" and 60 is "average." Individually, Harris graded 71, Braun, 70, Nichols, 67, Carmona, 62, Blackstock 60. Harris and Braun "above average," the remainder at "average." I'm going to think you would take these "grades" every week. These scores are certainly in line with what I watched from the stands. The first half reliance on power schemes (Wham) was ineffective against the D LaTech was running. In the second half, as Coach Pittman described, we went to a zone scheme almost exclusively and rushed for 208 yds - including that last drive that was a thing of beauty. I don't like to point the finger at one player but that 1st Qtr that Taylen had was maybe the worst I've ever seen and for the most part, he had time to throw. DJ pointed out the most glaring misses but there were others. Again, I hate throwing kids under the bus but I would love to see Malachi get the majority of work with the "One's" this week and see what he's got against Missouri but he won't. Taylen is QB1 and they fully intend to meet with him next week and make sure he is in the fold for next season. I certainly hope they can keep Malachi as well 'cause you know there are teams he could start for next season. I know the story 4th &5 is that it takes two yrs to learn Petrino's system but if I could only have one of our QB's back next season it would be Malachi - and damn it, I'm not a Taylen hater. So, my point to this comment is the O-line did very good job overall and don't deserve the hate they get...the problem with the slow start was with the QB and the question is who will be the QB next season?
I don’t think Green has the biggest upside. He’s a RS JR & Singleton is a RS Freshman. Green still cant read a defense as A RS Jr with 1 game left in the season & Singleton can as a RS Freshman. If you can’t read a defense after being in college that long it’s not gonna happen. Just because your athletic it don’t mean nothing. Tom Brady was the least un athletic person ever & Randle Cunningham was super athletic. Who was the best. SO here we are 1 game left & we still saying the same things about Green as we were at the beginning of the season. Green only have big runs against bad teams. UAPB & La Tech.
If Sam Pittman is the head coach next year, this is the only Razorbacks program I will pay attention to. I will not watch any games. I will not go to any games. But, because I am curious I will come here to find out what is really happening.
The o-line is not doing Green any favors, but I feel like he makes it worse by always running backwards instead of stepping up into the pocket or running forward for the first down.
The play breakdown of the miscommunication between green and Jackson when they have 7 in the box is why I’m here DJ. You do an outstanding job, and I hope you find a career in film breakdown for a very long time. I enjoy these breakdowns more than the actual games themselves, because you can actually see if these players, aka taylen green, has progressed any during the season. And I would have to say he hasn’t one bit. In almost every breakdown since the Oklahoma state game it’s literally been the exact same. Wrong read tsylen. Why’d you throw the ball 10 yards over his head Tsylen. Why did you throw the ball 10 yards to short Tsylen. It’s just getting to the point where we should have easily let malichi singleton and Braylon Russell get game time reps together to see how they performed, and get them ready to lead this team next year. You said yourself DJ. This isn’t the Petrino you know…. So what exactly are we getting with THIS Petrino? And is the product we’re getting worth it? I’m almost ready for a play calling break down to see if maybe Petrino isn’t at fault more than we’re giving credit? Especially when it comes to making adjustments to this scheme on the fly. God bless.
I do think Green may have improved, but very slowly and not by much. I believe the coaches have had to put in a few plays lately where the primary receiver is a tight end instead of Armstrong so that Green is forced to look somewhere other than Armstrong.
Serious questions: - Why is Coach Petrino dialed down? The fear of god he struck into his players as HC yielded quick improvement. We’re not seeing that this season. - At this point Green is exactly who he was at BSU. Do we roll with his poor judgment next year or will the staff move on?
I think it's because his ceiling is so high. The dude literally makes plays that could put him in 1st round convo if consistent, but he also makes a lot of very, very low IQ plays. The coach in me knows that after a full off season with Bobby and a whole year of reps under his belt, he's gonna be 1 of the best in the SEC next yr. A trust the process situation.
@mikelove2586 all I can say is I hope you right. However I can't pay bills on hope lol. He has brought the same mistakes from boise, here. He has not progressed throughout the season since being here. He makes more run plays that are 1st rd talent than passing. DJ has called out every issue from reading Def to pocket awareness.
My guess, for what it’s worth, is a combination of extremely high potential paired with the large NIL deal they gave him. Hard to bench your “franchise” quarterback when you financially commit to him (think Daniel Jones for the Giants the past 3 years).
@jimmyflyhookem2758 Naw some of the throws he's made on the run that Sategna and Broden dropped in the end zone. There are QBs in the league who can't make some of the throws he makes. Im gonna trust Coach Petrino and his eye. If everyone stays in place and a whole off-season together offense should be very productive.
You don’t know why Taylen didn’t throw that pass to a wide open TE when he KNOWS that play design??? Because he’s Taylen green. He’s no QB. They better get one and get a good one and get him ASAP.
Ill tell ya straight up I don't think Green has it between the ears to run CBPs offense. He can't make decisions fast enough and he does not go through his progressions well. He has missed far to many easy throws from TDs this year.
Why aren't we improving? Why is Green still QB? Why is the offensive line so weak? These problems, to me, all are at the coaches' door step! I like Pittman, but something ain't right.
Taylen just isn't yet there, when it comes to football iq in between the 2 to 5 seconds of live ball play. He lacks poise and decision making ability. The game goes faster than he can process. It can be fixed in the off-season. From my seat in the stands, as plays were unfolding i was pulling my hair out because he missed so many big plays by not pulling the trigger. He misses out on the 25 yd play and settles for the check down. He then misses the 4yd flick with open field and tries to find the 15 yd tight window. He throws the ball as the windows open which means the ball arrives as the window closes. When he learns to release the ball prior to the window opening, this team will be hard to beat when he gets there. He's about a .8 to 1 second late. Bobby will fix this during the off-season now that there's 1 season of film in the system. Btw i get that is easier said than done. I'm not saying this as if i could do it better or that the coaches don't see it. I know that Bobby knows and i know that Taylen knows that he has to figure it out. My point is to be optimistic that they will hone in on this and it will bring out the full potential that Taylen has. He is good but he can be great.
