Karl is a really friendly guy. I attended a Nile concert, and when the other members were gone offstage Karl stayed like 10 minutes on stage, leaning forward to the crowd, shaking hands and letting everyone touch his Dean ML headstock. Besides, this is filmed in The Netherlands. Karl may be a big guy, but Dutch men measure 6"4 on average. And people from Rotterdam are crazy agressive. Well, at least at soccer riots xD
Mateusz Szwarc he was limited kollias to play mediocre (pure mindless blas bests and same fills here and there just listen their newest records ...)so it will be great to have other musician !!!
I have stood by the following statement for a while now. Kingsland is a fucking beast. Love is playing, his vocals, his writing. Even though he is amazing and really fits the band, Dallas was the 100% fit for the band while Brian is a 90% fit. I'm happy about the band and where they're going (Scott Eames is killing it as a tour replacement), but I think that Nile lost a minute aspect of their sound when Dallas left without losing their credibility and power.

I never get tired to watch this video, really an amazing performance!
@DeathinHD Thanks. You're right, it's a dSLR. Sound was recorded with an external stereo mic. Next time I need to remember to not put it directly on top of a monitor though!
Chris Lollis has been a permanent bassist for the band between 2007 and 2012. Unfortunately, when they wanted to start writing material for the new album At the Gate of Sethu, Chris was absent due to personal trouble. The band has since replaced Chris with Todd Ellis, who is now a permanent member.
Fuck me for not going to see them when they toured through my country this year. This song is one of my favorites. Oh and excellent quality on the vid, thank you :)
@justWidle The bassist in the video is Chris Lollis, who became a permanent member in 2010. However, Nile's current bassist as of February 2012 is Todd Ellis. For a more complete overview of band member changes you may consult Wikipedia.
@metalhed1100 and their music as well basicly takes some bloody serious skills , in fact they are one of the most talented musicians of metal , along with other death metal musicians
I really loved this guy on bass, I wish they could have kept him because he surely would have added so much more energy to Nile, not that they are lacking any because they certainly are not.
when i met the singer last night after the show, without thinking i asked him hey arent you in dying fetus? he laughed and said, youd be suprised at how much ive gotten that recently.
Thanks! I've used a Canon EOS 550D / Rebel T2i to shoot the video and a Zoom H1 Handy Recorder for the audio. If I had to get a new camera I would consider one with a swivel screen. Also, I would replace the audio recorder with one that can handle the brutal loudness of concerts like these without clipping like crazy.
I've used the Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS kit lens in manual focus mode, at the widest aperture. The rapid zooms were a bit tricky. Because I was holding the camera with my right hand, I only had my left hand available to turn both the zoom ring and the focus ring simultaneously. It's quite hard to focus correctly with a shallow depth of field on the LCD screen, while at the same time paying attention to what happens on stage and most importantly, staying on both feet in a mosh pit!
@PetieFr Being there in the front row is a very different experience. A wall of sound that assaults your whole body. You can definitely pick up more details in the recording that are otherwise lost to the extreme loudness.
@DeathinHD It's a Zoom H1, which is a combination of a recorder and a mic. The Rode VideoMic can actually be plugged into the H1. The VideoMic has a narrow field which is great for attaching to a boom pole to record a dialog, but less so for capturing bands. The H1 sits somewhere in between omni-directional mics that record the complete surroundings and the shotgun mics that only record what you aim at. Straight from the desk takes away the technical challenge, but tests your people skills.
@metalhed1100 absolutely agreed mate , i am a guitarist , ive been playing metal for years now and im tellin ya , nile songs are extremely hard to play , as well as other death metal songs , so indeed death metal musicians are the most talented in metal scene cheers
@Utreife Awesome! I figure the Rode stereo mic? Any idea how the Rode Videomic would of done in these conditions? I mean ideal scenario would be a feed from the desk but I don't know if thats a realistic option.
The Rebel T2i did not have a stereo mic. That's why to record loud music I used a portable recording device Zoom H1. The Tascam DR-05 can even record up to 125dB. However, newer cameras have stereo mics and better sound quality. But really, you should do some research. Aside from DSLRs there are a lot of options these days which may better suit your needs. Camcorders, mirrorless cameras, and indeed even camera phones have come a long way.
@Utreife Haha nice description of dealing with bands and the sound man there. Well regardless of not quite perfect sound the visuals are absolutely spot on. So well done to you sir for having standards! Too many people accept putting out shit.
good lord this is awesome, and it sounds killer! Sounds like real people playing real instruments together in a room. Too bad they can't sound this powerful on record. Good job, man.
Now that's what I call a perfect video take (considering all the shit actually present on youtube), and with Nile on stage... well, best of the best! Thumb UP
Man, great job you did! I have the kit lens and I almost shoot nothing with it, too much noise and it is not very sharp. I shoot more with a 50 mm 1.8. Keep filming, the sound here was great also. Cheers from Brazil!
Digital SLR by any chance Utreife? Genuinely one of the best quality vids I've seen on the tube for live band footage. Surely this isnt the camera mic? Cause that is also pretty killer!
$1500 for my kit? No way. I bought it as an early adopter in 2010 at around $1000. The successor Canon 650D (Rebel T4i) with the 18-55mm lens is about $650 right now. But I'd probably get a Nikon nowadays.
Yeah, I spent too much space on too small memory cards recording the other bands that day. I messed up and didn't get Black Seeds of Vengeance completely. I still regret it and since then I carry at least a huge 64 GB card with me...
A couple of years ago I saw Karl kick a drunk guy off the stage, here, at the very same venue. Not undeservedly I'd say. Not sure if it's related, but if you watch the video closely you may notice a bodyguard sitting in the corner. At the other Nile gigs I attended Karl seemed to be very friendly.
@metalhead252525 Jup, you're right. I don't think Chris Lollis ever wrote music for Nile. Seth on the other hand wrote his own leads on the latest two records i think.
64 GB isn't that much anymore these days. At 3 minutes per GB, a 64 GB card can hold about 3 hours of video. If you're at a festival it wouldn't be overkill to have several of those cards. And a lot of batteries, too.
You pointed out their best sounding riffs ...I see ... I wont argue or anything you are spot on with your music... I listen to music from a guitarist perspective I am also a songwriter myself and do my own drumming these days lol but yes I was actually into Nile for a short period , I digged the Egyptian themes and the general power of the music ...this was about a month but the more I listened in depth behind all the drums and distortion I just got bored...
their old shit i agree with you on but their new shit has some of the catchiest shit ever like the end riff of "The Eye of Ra," "Permitting the Noble Dead to Descend to the Underworld," among quite a few others, so talented
Wow I haven't heard Nile in a while(I don't know anything after Black Seeds of Vengeance). But is it just impression or have Dallas vocals gotten worse? I think they sounded more brutal back then
Thanks :) Funny you should mention it, I happen to have shot a video with the 50mm 1.8: Zonaria - Rendered In Vain, /watch?v=FnPeXqvPRLM. After I got home from the concert I checked their official video and had a laught at the similarities, you know, the frantic shaky cam and extreme close-ups. Then again, which metal video isn't like that ;)
I hope I get to see Nile before I'm senile.
Are you senile yet?
I see what you did there.
I see what you did there you heathen, and I KNOW YOUR NAAAAMEEE
Please Nile, make that bassplayer a fulltime member, he's insane!
the most clean and clear live sound, thanks for posting this video!
I fucking love nile
Audio and video is completely flawless!
Average 6"4,overdrijven is ook een vak hè
This live is definitely better than the studio version !!!!!!
I became addicted to this video, because of the music, the band, and the flawless recording quality :D
I was at this concert! What a gig! I talked to Karl as well for a short while. Great guy!
Blew a speaker the day I bought catacombs. So fucking brutal.
thank you so much for uploading this...it's some of the best footage I've seen
I like how I typed in "best live death metal" and this video was at the top.
Nile without Dallas Toler-Wade won't be the same.
Mateusz Szwarc he was limited kollias to play mediocre (pure mindless blas bests and same fills here and there just listen their newest records ...)so it will be great to have other musician !!!
@@isaaczaladar1174 hahaha seriously? dallas was the best guitarist of Nile
I have stood by the following statement for a while now. Kingsland is a fucking beast. Love is playing, his vocals, his writing. I never get tired to watch this video, really an amazing performance!
this is like the best live recording ever
Catacombs is such a good fucking album. Deserves so much more recognition.
Catacombs is brutal
They should re-record the 2 oldest albums with the current lineup, that would be amazing
Props for this vid man, it's amazing!
Dallas' pinch harmonic at 0:49 gives me goosebumps!
Glad to see I'm not the only one who makes faces when playing guitar
@DeathinHD Thanks. You're right, it's a dSLR. Sound was recorded with an external stereo mic. Next time I need to remember to not put it directly on top of a monitor though!

You could make a living doing this. Great job friend.
Fuck me for not going to see them when they toured through my country this year. This song is one of my favorites. Oh and excellent quality on the vid, thank you :)

The best Nile !

Guest starring Cousin It on bass guitar!
Nile is awesome
Thank you
That was so awesome. I saw them a long time ago in Seattle.
Amazing performance.
when i met the singer last night after the show, without thinking i asked him hey arent you in dying fetus? he laughed and said, youd be suprised at how much ive gotten that recently.
720p looks amazing!!
This is my first time watching this and all I can say to myself is oh my god .. ..(amazing)
The best band in the whole universe!
Holy shit I was there :p

@TMA2 I used a Canon 550D, bought in 2010. Its price has come down quite a bit now after Canon released a few similar, newer models.
This really is so much better than the album version
cheers. ill try to remember that.
Awesome song
@JSKlunk Chris Lollis. He has been their bass player for several years but he's a live member. That's why he isn't mentioned on the album.
Awesome quality man! \m/
i became a fan of the bassist in this video!!
he's very coooooool\m/
That's true. 2k and 4k res HDTV's aren't too far away as we speak. =D
I've used the Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS kit lens in manual focus mode, at the widest aperture. The rapid zooms were a bit tricky. For a camera, the audio recording is sick!
WHOA!!!!! 1998 -- ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!! LOVE YOU, MY BROTHERS!!!!!! 😁🙏💪🎶🥁🥁🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
La mejor banda!!!!!!!!!! ULTRABRUTAL!!!
Incredible
Awesome. Hail Nile.
haha, they are so fucking awesome
it never ceases to amaze me whenever i go to see them live.
@DeathinHD It's a Zoom H1, which is a combination of a recorder and a mic. The Rode VideoMic can actually be plugged into the H1. Holy shit that’s good!
Awesome band \m/ Awesome video dude!! \m/
@metalhed1100 absolutely agreed mate , i am a guitarist , ive been playing metal for years now and im tellin ya , nile songs are extremely hard to play , as well as other death metal songs , so indeed death metal musicians are the most talented in metal scene

Damn, I want to see these guys play.
best nile album
@Utreife Awesome! I figure the Rode stereo mic? Any idea how the Rode Videomic would of done in these conditions? I mean ideal scenario would be a feed from the desk but I don't know if thats a realistic option.
Best band ever.
I knew these guys before the made it. They used to play with a band from same small town I'm from!
@Utreife the video/sound quality is pretty phenominal
good lord this is awesome, and it sounds killer! Sounds like real people playing real instruments together in a room. Too bad they can't sound this powerful on record. Good job, man.
Verdammt, die Tonqualität ist ja echt der absolute Hammer !! Und das obwohl dies keine professionelle Aufnahme ist.
I hope the other members of the band have come to the realization that everyone comes to see George play.
Now that's what I call a perfect video take (considering all the shit actually present on youtube), and with Nile on stage... well, best of the best! Thumb UP
sound is perfect how the fawk did you do that thanks bro
Man, great job you did! I have the kit lens and I almost shoot nothing with it, too much noise and it is not very sharp. I shoot more with a 50 mm 1.8. Keep filming, the sound here was great also. Cheers from Brazil!

omg i know. i had no idea he could growl like that!
Yeah, I spent too much space on too small memory cards recording the other bands that day. I messed up and didn't get Black Seeds of Vengeance completely. I still regret it and since then I carry at least a huge 64 GB card with me...

David Camerons mating sound
I used the Canon EOS 550D (Rebel T2i) with the Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS kit lens.
@desolateroom IMO, It is their best album and possibly one of the greatest albums of all time.
Holy fuck. When i saw it was that close i was expecting it to sound like fuzz! Then this came out. Respect \m/
@TMA2
it also sounds nice!
Wow they totally nailed this.. Band is tight as shit..
@metalhead252525 Jup, you're right. I don't think Chris Lollis ever wrote music for Nile. Seth on the other hand wrote his own leads on the latest two records i think.
Guy behind the amp at 2:22 says, "What the hell? No more skullet?..." hahaha
64 GB isn't that much anymore these days. At 3 minutes per GB, a 64 GB card can hold about 3 hours of video. If you're at a festival it wouldn't be overkill to have several of those cards. And a lot of batteries, too.

Dallas as well

@JSKlunk
Not really the same. Seth was in Behemoth's music videos and as far as I know he's actually written guitar parts on some of the albums
which model camera did you use to film this with? Good quality, great vid!
1:15
Wow I haven't heard Nile in a while(I don't know anything after Black Seeds of Vengeance). But is it just impression or have Dallas vocals gotten worse? I think they sounded more brutal back then
I'm sure he has, but the long-haired guy in this video is Chris Lollis.
UPON THE BLACK EARRRRRTTHHHH!
Thanks :) Funny you should mention it, I happen to have shot a video with the 50mm 1.8: Zonaria - Rendered In Vain, /watch?v=FnPeXqvPRLM. @Trippinhighman oh shit didnt read your comment right yeah his vocals on the studio version are sick
