    An experience of a lifetime....
In 1984 the world cup was in the Netherlands. The Pall Mal Pro World Cup. (Yes..a tabacco sponsor!) The windsurfsport was immensely popular and at its peak. 100.000 visiters on the beach to see the heroes. I am not exaggerating!
It was a rainy morning. 8:00 o’clock. Their was not much going on on the boulevard of Scheveningen. I went over to the Mistral/Gaastra stand. I leaned over the wet crowd barriers to see my idol. Only Robby was awake and he was setting up his equipment. Robby saw me (we were the only ones) and because of the drizzle, he invited me into his sponsor container. He gave me a cup of tea. We chatted about fins, sail, costum boards. Despite his incredible popularity, he was a quiet, honest, modest guy. Later that weekend he won the Worldcup. Again. This experience has always stayed with me. Now, over 40 years later, he is still my hero. A jewel for sports. I would love to talk again with him. Talking about fins, sail and boards. Thank Robby. Hang Loose.

I remember meeting Robbie at the World Cup meeting in Cornwall in the Eighties. Him and I think Mark Angulo where behind me in the queue for take away van. Great to see you still riding Robbie.

Wonderful footage and rig talk from this great water athlete! A few years ago I was at Boot Düsseldorf and went to the Naish stand to shake hands with Robby, my hero since 1980. A queue had formed of at least 15 people who wanted to talk to Robby! Then, a middle aged lady stepped up to Robby, hugged him dearly and burst out in tears. For this emotional occassion, Robby took off his cap. What a gesture! Lump in my throat.

#1111 is the GOAT and I have a poster of Robby windsurfing North Shore Maui in the late '80s... LOL aging so gracefully and still so rad. I got to shake his hand windsurfing at Kanaha in '96. Well now...fast forward...I'm now the old guy at my beach kiteboarding my Naish GoT0 5'9 STRAPPED with my beloved new quiver of Pivots S26 and S27. So cool to listen tech talk at end of this video...LOL riding with less power yeah thats me! But the new tech and the foil has made it just so fun "keeping up". THANKS NAISH

It is tremendous to get these insights from someone with so much experience as you Robbie. It's a master class in technique, board hydrodynamics and selection... sail selection ...and also how to adapt one's style as the years advance. I also LOVE ....with all the other new toys, such as foils and kites that seek to distract... seeing someone as proficient and skilled as Naish ... getting so much fun from old school windsurfing in waves. Thanks so much.

Robby, thank you so much for your amazing video!
I use wave boards, and these could be described as 'hidden volume boards'. For a few years now, an offering has been proposed, I believe first by Keith Teboul and Francisco Goya, about 10 to 12 years ago. The rule even goes a step further than what Robby did, by taking a volume in liters equal to my weight plus or minus 25/30 liters. Indeed, the standard of the 90s is changing. Personally, I almost always use a 105-liter quad board. The 85-liter board often stays in the garage. It's indeed great for surfing and for light and gusty winds (that was the initial purpose of the acquisition), but in fact, the use turns out to be much broader. My rule is quite simple: when I notice that the gusts forecasted on Windguru are equal to or greater than 10 knots compared to the average wind, I go for the 105 liters. In fact, 9 times out of 10, that's the board I use, even when there are 30 knots or when I feel like jumping. I think there's a change underway and I find it very exciting. It makes it so much easier to perform all the tricks and so much more fun. It's the revolution of hidden volume!
Also, the standard has now become multi-sport (wing, kite, and windsurf) depending on the conditions. For me, with side or side-off wind or good waves, it's windsurfing that takes the lead.

I ride custom but have one of your production foil boards. I may be hard on gear but I've never put so many dings, compression marks and ripped the leash out of a board like one of your production boards.

Thanks Robbie! Perfect timing on the technical gear overview!! Ive just started to gear up again since taking the last 35 years off windsurfing the SF bay (3 kids, life) & was perusing the new boards to replace an old Naish 9’6 (late 80s production?), struggling to understand the wide board and quad surfboard skegg benefits. Looking forward to getting back in the wind and water soon, thanks for the inspiration!

Lets look forward. As a judge I look for the fade before the laydown. Also try pushing with a straight front arm during the laydown like in hardcore slalom, pushing the rig forwad on the water and turning in under the sail for pure vert. This also prevents the sail to hang behind you in the end of the laydown.

    We feel you Robby 😂
We don't like the cubby board designs either.
Would prefer a longer, thinner rails ourselves. Drawn out, XL bottom turns was "it" in the days!
Today it's all about spins and compact noodliness. And they plane like shit
Miss the 90s DIY radness 😌
Naish RIP Video from 1995 still my go-to windsurf film for inspiration 🙏

I would like to get those Red Bull windsurfing sail stickers with the bull image to put on my Naish force 5 sail. My google search doesn't give any results. Would have thought the windsurfing brands might have been interested in selling them. Does Red Bull prefer that only the pros have the stickers ? I drink genuine Red Bull because of the sports they sponsor even though they cost a bit more than imitation drinks. Well worth the extra money when you see windsurfing paradise videos like this.

I don´t understand why you don´t compete. I mean you may feel that you are no longer suited for competing in slalom (a discipline best done when one weighs 220 lbs) but you look like you still have your game on for wave). May be I`m not qualified to make this comment, but your sailing certainly gives me that impression).
