    These seem like great books to buy if you have a time machine that goes back to 2013. I would say the best comics to invest in are not necessarily the ones that have 10X'd, but the ones that are undervalued.

    What people don’t account for is to make these comic gains you’re speaking to they would have to know very specifically what books to get 10+ years ago; whereas with an S&P 500 index fund, you have to know zero about the stocks & you would’ve done extremely well. 99.5% of comics come nowhere close to these goals and many of them lose value from where you bought them.

      No fair to compare the best comics to an average pool index. Much more fair to compare the best comics to the best stocks - fortunately David did provide this in the video with the best comics only returning about 1/3 of the best stocks. My perspective - just buy what you like. Someone else will probably like it down the line too!

    I've been collecting "investment" Silver & Bronze age ASM & X-Men comics seriously for the past 12 months, however rightly or wrongly, I only buy the comics I like the look of, i.e. good artwork from the likes of Ditko, Romita, McFarlane etc. That way, even if my "investment" flops, I've still got a great piece of artwork / history to enjoy. My aim for 2024 is to purchase a high grade ASM 129, but again only because I love the artwork...if it appreciates in the next 10 years, that's a bonus!

    Batman 23 is the oldest Batman comic I have. Snagged it during the boom in a trade for a GSX 1. It's low grade but it is slabbed. I snap up Joker covers from ANY era when I see them cheap. Even Copper Age. I have all the Bronze Age one's and a lot of the Silver as well.
    Wish I could afford more GA but you buy what you can and make the most of it.
    Dont snub SA DC keys either. Marvel may be sitting on top at the moment but smart collectors are getting SA DC Keys now because the worm always turns. 1st SA Hawkman is one I picked up not long ago. 1st SA Appearances of the major Batman villains are all rock solid investments too.

    • @Boxingbear
      @Boxingbear 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DanSchawbel Yeah.. War Titles aside, the SA scripts from most DC books are pretty silly. They were still writing stories for children and having Batman fight Aliens and weird monsters because Sci Fi was all the rage. Meanwhile Marvel was spinning off incredible stories geared towards adolescents and young adults in titles like SPIDEY, Y FF, Strange Tales, Tales To Astonish and JIM.
      BUT
      Those 'silly' DC SA books are hard to find in high grade and have a very nostalgic feel to them. The older collectors who grew up buying them as kids love them. I buy my share of SA Batman, Detective Comics and Action Comics/Superman - mainly for the cover art. But I prioritize SA Spidey over most other things.

      @@internationalcomics1158 I’m in the age group as well. I have a Shonen Jump 51, most manga collectors just don’t care about investing yet and don’t look at their collections as investments. Once they actually have money to invest they’ll happily want to spend $5k on a manga or comic that they can actually make a profit on.

    This is, of course, jmo.. but for a lower risk investment(comparably speaking).. I would buy Mcfarlane's ASM books.. not only #300.. but the rest of that time period.. starting at 298 and going thru #328.. i believe there were a couple of issues he didn't do in that stretch. If we are talking long-term spec, i think it makes sense. Especially if u can obtain high-grade newsstand copies with MJ inserts for good measure. Another potential investment idea is the Marvel Tales run McFarlane did. They are reprints, but i believe all the covers are original McFarlane creations... and including the Batman 423 1st print couldn't hurt either.. jmo. I welcome other opinions about these books🙏

Have to anticipate and sell the news or even sometimes the rumor. I purchased first Arana a few months ago for cheap, cgc graded it 9.8, and tripled my money once the spider-woman trailer dropped. • @goldeneastgun
    @goldeneastgun 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Before any one "invests" in comics, I highly recommend you look ahead and consider demographics within macro economic trends. Knowing that comic values and their liquidity is closely correlated to movies, the only comics I'm "investing" in are key FF and X books. Otherwise, I'm riding the BTC cycles as I head into retirement and the world become more digitized. As it is with platinum books, stamps, coins and records... so to will comics be. At this stage, it's a game of hot potato.

    • @Boxingbear
      @Boxingbear 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The correlation between comic prices and movies is only a modern trend. There are a lot of people collecting today that can't even remember what made comic values increase before the MCU and DCEU took hold of people's attention. And alot f the books mentioned in this vid have been solid investments for decades. Movies are going to play their role moving forward but their significance pertaining to long term comic collecting and 'investing' is waning. And will not be that important over the long haul.
      Remember, stamps died out for a different reason. Comic books and comic characters are a solid fixation in popular culture and that will NEVER change.

    • @goldeneastgun
      @goldeneastgun 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Boxingbear I agree with some of the things you stated, but I also respectfully disagree with your other points. I can list a ton of books from the SA that have been lifted from under a rock due to movies, and there are reasons why moderns are more volatile, due to stuff like accessibility and lesser risk. But keep in mind, the only reason that comics have value is because there are buyers. Once the buyers are gone, only a handful of books will be left standing. I give the market about 20 years... by then, I hope to be divested from all my valuable books. I'm not saying that comics will disappear, but like stamps, coins, records and other past collectibles... it will become a relic in the digital age. Go to any comic con and look at all the grey, bearded old men in t-shirts. Yes, the superhero brands will live on, but the folks who are connected to the nostalgia of print wont. Thanks for responding.

    • @Boxingbear
      @Boxingbear 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DanSchawbel Now that Disney owns Marvel I can see a lot things getting screwed up. Their most valuable and popular character is owned by Sony - and they can't get anything right either.
      DC has a better chance moving forward. Look for characters like Metamorpho, Lobo, Plastic Man and The Question to pop up and take things in a bit of a different direction.

    • @goldeneastgun
      @goldeneastgun 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DanSchawbel The Christopher Reeves Superman, Michael Keatons Batman and the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man were all hits initially. They all treated their respective films with some degree of realism, creating anticipation and wonder... as per the Superman, the movie tagline: "You'll believe that a man can fly." The same could be said about Marvel. The first phase was all about these fantastical beings set in the real world with real consequences. But then, they all became kid friendly, cartoony and literally "comical". Screaming goats in Thor, a planet full people who sing in Marvels... it's all become a joke for the kids. Can or will Marvel change their trajectory with a stretchy man, his wife, a fire guy and a rock dude? I have my doubts as well. The Fantastic Four should be an updated Fantastic Voyage (1966). A fantastical voyage with a family of adventurers using the Kirby treatment... but instead, it will be another CGI mess like Quantumania. At least the first Ant-Man gave us an ants perspective, which was interesting. This is why comic investing has become a game of hot potato. Buy low, sell high before the movie.

      Golden and silver age comics is the best to invest in. If you got comics from the 70 s and the 80s or even the 90s they are not worth that much except for a few key dates.

    Sorry Dave but this would have been an excellent video 20 years ago before these books rose exponentially, but the chances of these books continuing to climb at the same rate is slim to none. A lot of the Golden Age stuff is being pumped by a ton of TH-camrs who lack the understanding that people in their 30's (like myself) or younger could care less about the books but hope they can get people outside of auction houses/'investors' into them to keep the prices skewed. If a Comic TH-camr is making a video about a book, it is way too late for investment. More than likely they have been stockpiling those books and are hoping people aren't thinking about the tons of 50/60/70-year olds who did not save enough for retirement and will be dumping their collections soon. 2024 will be a great year for buying books though, we do agree on that!

      Our parents did not have over a trillion in student loans, could buy a house on a working-class income, or a collapsing medical system. Also, my parents never collected comics so that concept definitely does not hold. But keep in mind, "who will be paying these crazy prices in the future as the old folks retire and more and more of these hit the market...?".

      There is no capitol gains in comics. If you sell it through a service like eBay. Then it’s counted as income. Which if you have write off you can get rid of. If not. Then it just raises your income.

    There is no reason to buy a Hulk 181. Its price is manipulated by dealers and collectors who horde the books to restrict availability which artificially inflates the value. Hard pass! Wait for the Boomer generation to liquidate their collections and bring the price back to market value.
