    "Many is a Word, that only leaves you guessing, guess about a thing you really aught to know" my favorite line. The Ocean is going to blast you like a huge wave.

    Jimmy and Robert came up with this song around the time they were writing for the 3rd album however, it didn't get completed and recorded until this album. "Over the hills and far away" is another connection to Lord of the Rings. The title is taken from Tolkien's poem "Over Old Hills And Far Away" and it is also how The Hobbit character Bilbo describes his journey with finding the One Ring. All the instrumentation is spot-on perfect, very rich, like a tapestry of music.

    There really isn't a best song off this album. Every song, literally EVERY SINGLE song, is an absolute masterpiece. I think my favorite though is the rain song, or the ocean, or no quarter. Nope, cant decide. this whole album is just perfect. Led Zeppelin is just the greatest band of all time.

      also my favorite solo. The way Bonzo and Jones just push him on and Jimmy dances around the beat. Sounds like meeting the girl of your dreams

    The Rain Song , Led Zeppelin was in Seattle Washington, before the concert. It started raining. They came up with this song. Back in the day, you could walk the water front and feel that music!

    So hard to pick, but The Rain Song has to be my favorite, and a special mention for No Quarter because it is just different with an ethereal vibe unlike any other LZ song -- I couldn't even comprehend No Quarter the first time I heard it, it broke my musical brain.... :-)

    For a lot of people like myself, this is one of our favorite songs and I don't know why even. What I would say is not only it does it have this great dynamic aspect to the narrative and I include the musicality when I say that, but also once it gets rolling, it is downright funky and yet is still hard rock. Crazy man. You can think Bonzo and jpj for that for sure. But then really this whole band is super integrated all the time. They're all about it all the time.

    Don't know if you have noticed this, but recording music and such was so different then. They incorporated the stereo effects like different sound coming through left or right speakers. It gave a whole other layer to their music that isn't really present (much) in modern music. You might like to try the band Cream (if you haven't)

    This song was one of the most played LZ songs on radio. It's not in the league of Stairway to Heaven in terms of radio play (not much is) but it's instantly familiar to anyone who had FM radio playing in the car or anywhere else.

  • @Cosmo-Kramer
    @Cosmo-Kramer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    My favorite track this this LP is, "The Ocean". It's one of the rare Zep songs that was done better live, at MSG in '73. After reacting to the studio version, I would recommend you react to that version. My second favorite song is, "The Rain Song". But I dig the whole album--even the two tracks which are very unusual. (You'll see.)

    Took me 3 months to learn this on guitar and still one of my favorites to just chill and play. (Yeah, I know I'm not a great guitarist. I have like zero talent. I work very hard to play what I do. Mucho respect for Jimmy Page)

    🤦‍♀️... I didn't get the noti's for these last night!!😖 Glad I checked your page!! LOVE THIS FREAKING SONG!! I think this album REALLY shows them maturing a little bit! You gotta remember Robert and JPJ were only 20 and Jimmy and Bonzo were barely 24 wgen their 1st album was recorded. 😉 This is one of my top 5 Zep songs!!💕 Great reaction Biz!!😎❤

    When I was about 12-13 or so I discovered the guitar and fell in love with it. This was quite upsetting to my father who was a Salvation Army bandsman and not all in favour of secular music. I was playing guitar in the living room one evening when he arrived home after work so I got up to put the guitar in my room and get ready for supper. He stopped me and says, "Hey Jimmy. would you play over the hills and far away?" Not knowing there was a song by that title nor who Led Zeppelin was it was totally lost on him when I played the acoustic intro riff.

    This one is my personal favorite off of the album. The Rain Song would be next. This one has such a chill vibe, even when it gets crazier than the beginning, its a chill aggression. You can't sit still and it randomly takes you to somewhere peaceful in between.

    In my 59 year old self. This is the first album I actually was able to buy when it first came out!! My Dad broke my album stating "That's not music "!! Oh was I Pissed!! The Best Song on the album is "NO QUARTER "!! Written by the Bass player John Paul Jones!! He also plays Keyboard on that track!! Again, in my opinion, the Greatest song on that Album!! Check it out!

    Hopefully you read this sometime. You should try to listen to Jimi Hendrix "Voodoo Child" not Voodoo Chile (slight reprise) which is more well known and done by other artists specifically Stevie Ray Vaughn.. Voodoo Child is fourth song of side one of Electric Ladyland, Voodoo Chile (slight reprise) is on side four and shorter. Try Voodoo Child you'll be blown away. Let me know if you do so I can see your reaction..

    I love that you do whole albums track by track but do me a favor? when you are done with the videos for this album I recommend sitting through the whole album start to finish, roll one up or whatever and just play the audio. One song will just roll in to the next, of all their albums I think this one is best played straight through. tho that's debatable for sure...thoughts?
