Darkstalkers once again serving as a weird blocker. It's obviously better than a lot of games above it, so a lot of games that are comparable to Darkstalkers are going to be underrated.

Yeah, it's kinda crazy how huge Tekken were back then. Those games were legit system sellers.
... Tekken, MGS, Wipeout, FF7 and THPS is what first pops up when I think of the PS1 these days ...

I think charge moves are dumb too, but not because they're easier execution. For me it's because you always have to be thinking about charging them and hiding it as blocking as they take time rather than just an instant thing. For me thinking about that put me off all charge characters, it's as hard as using the other button to rotate the other way in Tetris :D

Charge moves puts a lot of meta game into the fighting game scene which can render matches way interesting for who knows wtf is going on.
Guile matches on SF IV and V are a bless to watch if you know when the buffer is being hidden or its just a bluff. Same goes for pre-Balrog, watch any PR Balrog match, it's such fuckin beauty on execution.
Also instant moves also have buffering, like shoryus can be buffered so it has less buttons to press and almost instant trigger.

Nothing bores me quite like watching charge character sit back and crouch block for 3/4 of a match. I'm not saying there's so skill involved in playing charge characters and I understand it's a necessity for many of be hyper defensive but I can say, at least for me, it's insanely dull to play against and watch.
Except Vatista in UNIEL, that is a weird take on a charge character and I think it's more interesting.

Yeah thats personal, I like watching sometimes because of the reaction time needed to use charge characters, you need the right moment to actually trigger the attack otherwise you receive great punish from other play styles. Still there's a huge place for it.
Now KOF movement like the pretzel is bullshit.

Charge moves usually have little recovery and are powerful. Charge characters typically have stronger normal moves as well. The charge time is there to prevent that character from being too powerful. Nothing to do with easy vs difficult execution.

As someone who plays charge characters whenever possible, charge moves can be really dumb, but when handled well charge characters are hype as fuck and can play really aggressively, or they can just be guile, which sucks and is more common.
