I never turned a bowl that way. It was always starting on the side and going "Ka-CHUNK, Ka-CHUNK, Ka-CHUNK. (Along with more than a few bad catches.) I will have to try it the way you suggest. Thanks!
Update to previous comment! I meant a negative rake on the square cutter! Will hurricane accept other manufactured cutters such as a negative rake on the square cutter?

The scraper carbide tip would have alleviated the tear out!!! That is if Hurricane has one!

Thanks Richard, yes, Hurricane Carbide Tools are compatible with the cutters made by other manufacturers. They are drop in replaceable
