My theory is this: the fight against the lady bone demon goes somewhat the same, right up until they exorcise her from Bai He. Enraged at losing Wukong, the Jingu Bang _and_ her host at the same time, the demoness, in a moment of pure spite and cruelty, murders the girl to deny them a true victory. You see, in this universe, Wukong removed the fourth ring of Samadhi from Mei before they ever even began their journey, under the impression that it would be better to have the flame separate from anything at first than to forge it inside her and risk her life. Macaque threatened her as he did in canon to compel Tang to reforge the flame, but in this reality, the Not-mayor, having followed him, took the fire when it was finally recreated, delivering it to his mistress personally. Mei joins Red Son in the final battle as a result, and the focus is instead on giving _him_ the fire, since it is his creation and technical birthright. In the aftermath, having taken just about everything from the Lady Bone Demon and leaving her near powerless as a result, Mei says tells Mk that they have won. However, he refuses to be calmed. In his mind, Bai He died because they weren't strong enough, because he didn't stop her when he had a chance. His grief, guilt and pain melting together, the Monkie Kid angrily states that the witch will pay for this....and for the first time in his life, he knows hate. That moment, around 0:50? That is when you realize.....the Heir to Flowerfruit Mountain, chosen of the King, disciple of Havoc, has forsaken compassion. All that remains is his newfound will to kill. (Sorry if this got dark, you just inspired me.)

The flash of Sun Wukong at 1:36 makes me think Sun Wukong somehow betrayed MK & Mei in an unforgivable manner, & given the audio used for this animatic, I get the impression that MK & Mei planned their revenge together, but the final step in their plan involved them killing someone (given the sleeve shown at 0:31 , either Macaque, Red Sun, or most horrifically, Bai He (which is what the fans call the little girl that Lady Bone Demon possessed, for those who don’t know)), but MK has become increasingly mentally unstable throughout the enactment of the plan & is about to take things so far that even Mei thinks it’s going too far despite Mei having been the only one on MK’s side throughout this revenge plan. And if the sleeve I mentioned earlier does indeed belong to Bai He, than I am terrified at what MK is about to do given that Mei was willing to kill an innocent little girl with MK for the sake of revenge, but draws the line well before whatever MK has planned next.
