I have been trying to track my wears of clothes since, i think last winter, had it all written down on papers and often forgot. I have now downloaded an app called indyx, and that works way better for me. It did take some time to fotograf everything, but for me it is working really well. I want to downsize my clothes because when my youngest son moves out, i will move to a smaller apartment and probobly will not have as big of a bedroom as i have now. He is not talking about moving out, but the day will come, and i want to be ready so i can enjoy living in a smaller apartment instead of having way to much stuff and feeling overwhelmed. I really like you content❤
I tried Indyx for the "spring capsule wardrobe" experiment, I might try it again for this cataloging too - this time I'm starting by taking photos of outfits I actually wear out and I'm going to figure out the system of counting later 😅 Sounds like a great plan to be ready for the downsizing so that you can do it at your own pace!
You are just wonderful - thank you for another fun and helpful video. What a great idea to keep the slim jeans as „protection piece“ against a shopping itch 😁
the silk maxi with the red cardigan for spring for everyday and with the navy cardigan for fall could be beautiful, it's hard to know without seeing them on together but in my head it's perfection.
I'm also tracking my wardrobe, since the beginning of April. I don't like any of the digital wardrobe websites, taking all the photos and needing to have an account somewhere just sounds uninspiring for me, so I use google sheets for this. Also because I'm a huge excel nerd, I can reorganise or analyse my data in what I'm interested in, and just paste in random notes and inspo pohotos anywhere or on a new worksheet. From June, I have done an experiment of choosing just 10 items to wear for 100days, I know this is a bit extreme, but it let me understand the real limitations of what we actually need to get our needs met with clothing. (at least for someone who just wants to be well-dressed, but not super fashion-forward) I had 2 pants, 1 dress, 1 denim shirt, 1 long sleeve top and 5 t shirts in my capsule for the summer, and tracking my data it showed that I could make up around 40 different outfits with these pieces. What became very appearent to me early one that tops are quite limited in wear, on the tropical climate I live, I could only wear them once before they got sweaty, but pants really could go a long way without washing. So I pants and the dress had a lot of wear, this makes me feel like if I need to buy new pieces, I would definitely invest more into those. I always wore the denim shirt as an outerwear so that could go longer between washes as well, and on a tropical climate it was extremely useful for both keeping myself warm in airconditioned inner spaces and covering up my skin from the sunshine when going out. This really surprised me because I thought this won't worn as much as the other tops, it also was a variable element to the other outfits. I felt like I'm wearing the Tshirts equally frequently, but data showed that the more structured and simpler ones got a bit more use, and by far the long sleeve was the least worn one. In the span of the 100 days, unfortunately the dress got ripped (just a few days before the end) and one Tshirt shrunk (because of all the washing ) to a point that I want to wear it anymore, but otherwise, I think the other pieces survived in a pretty good condition. I'm really happy that I did this exercise and I recommend others also to track their wardrobe in easy ways that doesn't feel like a choir to get some insights about their real wearing habits. Here autumn is too short to put together a capsule for so I'm using the time to put together a wardrobe for a similar experiment for winter, and see how that goes. I'm really looking forward to seeing your data too! Make it easy on yourself and enjoy reviewing your numbers :D
I love what you learned from your experiment! I have a ton of tops in relation to bottoms, I think I feel the same about having to wash tops frequently but being able to wear bottoms much more before washing. Maybe it's from the time that I lived in sweaty Texas 😆 Right now I'm actually just snapping a quick photo of the outfit I'm wearing on the days I go out - it might be cumbersome to count up later but I do think that actually seeing the clothes might be helpful too. We'll see!
I started tracking my clothes in an excel sheet in november 2022. I think I used a template from Christina M, but not sure anymore. I work in data management, so I love data. I changed the sheet to my preferences. But this gave me some great insights in the amount of clothes I have (had), the number of times I wear things (lower than expected) and when I wear certain things. I evaluate each piece individually, why dont I wear it? Is it the size? The fit? Comfort? Material? Color? These gave me great insigths in what I do and dont like. For me this was a gamechanger!
Oh that's a good reminder I think you're right that Christina did an excel sheet for tracking, I might look into that - thank you! I've never used the spreadsheet format but I think it could be cool to see the data that way!
Previous seasons I was more in a creative mode, but lately I’m just not very excited? I’m planning on doing a trusty capsule wardrobe in my closet, so I won’t have to think too much about dressing. On fun vs flattering, I’m at the point in my style exploration where I’d rather choose the fun option over an option that bores me. I think it comes from wearing mostly neutrals for so long. And having tried color, it isn’t as scary and is more versatile than I expected!
Ooh that's a great point that our feelings might fluctuate season to season, and even the question of fun vs. flattering may change depending on the time as well! I also can't imagine having as much fun in a wardrobe without color!
Thanks for the video, learning a lot from your experiense! Wanted to suggest to try and wear that form fitting gray long sleeve with your gray pant set for a monochrome look - I think it will make a fun set as the colors are similar but not the same and figgure hugging top will look great under the looser jacket :)
This was so interesting - and I DO want to know the March results from all the wear data you collect this fall/winter. I have a lot of clothes too and plan on rotating through them without a lot of repeating, except maybe my merino high neck sweaters and some jackets and blazers, which I will probably wear a lot. Quite frankly, I can't really remember anything else I have right now because everything is still stored away; out of sight, out of mind truly is a thing! I have been looking at my summer clothes and evaluating how much/little they've been worn and am a bit disappointed to have ignored some things - like a a grey linen short skirt and blazer - that I really liked and was excited to wear. So I've put these front and center and will try to wear them while the temps are still in the 70s. I've already pulled out the lightest clothing that is definitely done for the year to make room for the next season - but it's discouraging how little room summer things take up and how much space I'll need for the bulky fall/winter things. I might need to get a little more disciplined and put some pieces into purgatory too. Thanks, Alexa - I really enjoyed this video!
I have mixed feelings about storing seasonal clothes, but I have decided to put away the summer clothes that would take a lot of finagling to work during cooler weather, the linens, the shorts...we're starting to feel more like Fall so I guess it's time. You're also right about how the space requirements are so different for fall/winter vs. spring/summer, so it's probably helpful to remember next spring/summer that there "should" be extra space where the bulky sweaters used to live, and not to be tempted to reorganize or re-fill that space with stuff! I'll try to be vigilant in the data-collecting 😁
I totally love the idea of wearing the Cezanne dress with a sweater and maybe some tall boots (or western boots??). Although I don't wear dresses often (ok, almost never), I love skirts in the fall/winter. I have two silk with similar shape/flow to the skirt of your Cezanne dress (in neutral prints, as opposed to floral, though) that look good with sweaters or a moto jacket, and boots. It doesn't get very cold where I am, but for the odd chilly day, I'll wear some tights under.
I'm realizing that I only go for dresses when there's an "occasion" so I don't wear them nearly as much as I thought. And while I love the feeling when I do wear a skirt it's not my first choice either - the mission this fall-winter is to actually wear what I have and evaluate whether I should be reaching for the skirt options more! (Or make peace with the pants and trousers life and stop feeling guilty about it 😅)
@@Alexas.nobuyyear I always feel the need to "toughen up" more feminine pieces, otherwise I feel "impostor syndrome". My innate style is between tomboy and minimal/classic. Even though those styles lean "masculine", I still feel very fem and "girly" on the inside when wearing them. You feeling a little guilty about those dresses/skirts is another example, to me, of how our belongings are always "talking" to us. "You bought me but you never wear me" "I'm just wasting away in this closet" LOL. The last thing anyone needs is their CLOTHING bringing up emotions like that when there are so many other situations in modern life that already can do that to us.
Please don't get rid of the suede jacket🙏 It looks like it fits you well and it's such a cool piece! Literally the outfit you had on plus a wide brim hat, a few rings &/ or a cool necklace and some booties. Cute outfit accomplished! As for my closet, my most worn will be sweaters and memade wool skirts. I have thyroid issues, so I'm always cold. It's easier to tuck layers under large skirts😅
I also want it to work - just have to try and actually wear it this season! I agree that it'd look great with more jewelry (kind of the "bohemian" nod, perhaps) but find it difficult to do my job of playing viola with rings and necklaces - maybe I can find a compromise with some earrings. I've learned I'm just not committed enough to jewelry styling to remove everything to play and then put it all back on afterwards... as cool as it would look with some outfits! I love the idea of your skirts, and that you make them yourself! Sounds like the ultimate cozy outfit
I have too much stuff and I do rotate a lot so if we don't count shoes and purses, my blazers (if you scroll on my IG last year I wore my Smythe navy blazer at least once a week) should be the items most worn this winter or my Uniqlo cardigan in navy (right now I have already 7 wear in 3 months and it was summer time). Because I live in Canada dresses are harder to wear and large flowy pants. For tops I usually go for fitted cashmere or merino wool sweaters. I can't wait to see if your predictions come through! can't wait to see your results.
Ooh I admire people who track and post their outfits on IG - I tried that for a month this year and just can't get the hang of photo posting 😅 sounds like you have some beautiful outfits!!
I've been planning to track my wardrobe for months now, I just haven't set aside time to cataloque everything, so I'm curious to see how your stats turn out! I've been on consciously building my wardrobe, replace most synthetics slowly, and get my favourite pieces that don't fit tailored, so seeing the actual wear would help a lot. I really want to allocate a Saturday afternoon to set some kind of tracker up, it would be great to start after switching my wardrobe for the new season. As far as my predictions? On the topic of being influenced even unconsciously, I lost my father 3 months ago. He never wanted us to wear black mourning, and we did not plan to. However both my mom and I realized that unconsciously we actually do. All that she wears is black and very dark blue. My clothing is 80% black, so it's easy for me. Now that fall is here, I'm so excited to wear my emerald and burgundy things, but whenever I try to style it, I feel awkward and put it back on the rail. It's funny isn't it? I though that I have become mostly immune to being influenced, and it turns out that this silent societal expectation (custom? norm? push?) got me. So I think those beautiful fall colour knits will get the least use.
Aw I'm sorry for your loss. It's understandable that you'd be "influenced" by this, for my part though I don't consider this the same kind of influencing that we should avoid in the same way as the influencing that happens through paid content on medias though - for many customs, I do feel that there is a reason for them (culturally, emotionally, or beyond) - and for some, it might be more comfortable to practice them.
I track mine in a very low key way by turning around all the coat hangers to face the same direction, and then when I put something away after wearing and washing it, turning that coat hanger the opposite direction. I think there are some things I probably won't wear and I'm looking for what I can declutter. I don't have a lot, but I'm planning a big move in a year or two and so I want to sort of low key whittle down some possessions before then.
I've heard of the "hanger method" quite a few times now, it might be something that I should just go ahead and try, people must be recommending it for a reason, after all! 😄
The pants + blazer I DO forsee wearing a ton! It's the skirt + blazer that I'm not sure about. But I'm resolving to actually try the skirt this season and see how I feel - I work in an environment where miniskirts would be ok with tights, it's just up to my own comfort level. I think you're right though that some of this just feels good to have in my closet.
Have you tried wearing the grey dresspants under the ganni zebra dress? I have been loving wearing long wide leg pants under long dresses and tunics this summer with chunky sneakers. It caused me to discover I now love a pair of pants that I almost decluttered 🙀ps. I have a similar body type to you, hence the recommendation :)
Ooh I'll file this combo away for my next "outfits" video, I did try out any suggestions from my comments in the one that's going up this Saturday. This sounds like a really fun idea!

Your wish is my command - I'll try a few of these suggested outfits in a video soon! 😄
I liked your honest bag review so would love to see you do more (even though designer brands is not my interest)
