Our pleasure, yes it sure is!
Welcome to those who come to travel in Thailand. And thank you for introducing us to Thailand. I'm happy with coming this time.
Thank you.
Thanks for introducing your wife to us as viewers. Another episode that you put out that I enjoyed from start to finish
She makes a lot of things happen!
Monks photo for the win but second place to the bride! Wonderful video!
Thank you very much!!
B&W was indeed the way to go, those shots were great!
Thanks for watching 👌
Todd, what a wonderful video. I am inspired by your photography and the respectful way in which you approach your subjects.
This video is your best yet. Truly inspiring!
Really appreciate that, thanks!
Excellent narration, great video footage, and outstanding images. Wanted more pics of the street food and a menu!
We were talking just about that, having more street food photos. Next trip.
I live in Thailand. Glad you had fun here. There’s so much to see.
Yes there is. Really a magical country!

Thoroughly enjoyed this video! Thanks for all the effort from yourself and your wife to get this produced. It’s a joy to watch. And thanks for all of the location tips, and the camera shop locations!
Cool you're welcome. The camera shops are crazy good!
Thanks todd, Getting inspired again, taking out my dads roleiflex, in singapore again
Do it. We hope to visit Singapore this year.
Oh… heat and humidity in that part of Asia is exhausting this time of year. And it’s “winter” there! Imagine summer! • Photographs looks stunning in black and white - surprisingly! ❤
It’s funny, by the end of the trip I was saying, it doesn’t feel that hot anymore. Of course we were just getting used to it. But it sure can get warm there. 😉
Beat the Heat : Get out upon the River .... secure a pilot and a boat , with your own guide .. I did that , best money I spent. 2017
@@chrisloomis1489 We actually did the same thing, it was great! 👍
Hi Todd, I really like your work and the square format is top notch ❤
I’m always looking forward to seeing more work and videos!!
Thanks Todd for sharing this with me ❤️
I love the square format, as you could probably tell ;-))
Outstanding work.
Cheers!
Wonderful video, Todd. Brings back memories of when I went to Phuket while I was in the US Navy back in 2009 and 2011. I’ve always wanted to go back and visit with my cameras. I just bought a Rolleifex 3.5f and I can’t wait to start shooting with it. You definitely inspired me to get one. Again, Thank you for putting the time in to make these videos for us. Happy New year !
We did love Phuket. The Rolleiflex can't be beat!
Wonderful video! Literally got back this morning from a self-drive roadtrip in Northern Thailand with my 500CM and M4 - watching this made me want to go back. Thank you to you and your wife for the wonderful content!

Thailand was so good!
What a great Film and Shots !!
Thanks so much ;-)
Hi Todd, great vid. I really enjoyed watching. As an Aussie Army veteran I was happy to see you show the Bridge at the Khwae Yai River. The Khwae Yai River Bridge is a place that is important to Aussie's, particularly army veterans and those of us who had relatives who fought the Japanese in WW2, my great uncle being one of them. Over 13,000 Aussies, along with approx. 30,000 British and 20,000 Dutch and approx. 1,000 American POW's built the Burma Death Railway. Roughly a quarter of them died in captivity. Just down the road from Kanchanaburi is Hellfire Pass, another significant site for Aussies and well worth a visit. Interestingly there are two bridges at the Khwai Yai River, one timber and one concrete and steel. Both were built by POW's. The timber bridge was bombed and destroyed by the RAF two or three times and rebuilt by POW's a couple of times. The steel and concrete bridge was built by POW's after the Japanese gave up on rebuilding the timber bridge because it kept getting bombed. I also like that you included a shot of the party boats on the river. Those party boats are a bizarre thing to experience. Thailand is a great place. One of my favourite countries to visit. The Thai people are so friendly and welcoming. Thanks for a great video, very enjoyable.
Thank you for the great note. I did know about the two bridges and the history of the place, it was just a little long to get into with out me messing the whole thing up. I do hope that people who have a chance will go visit the bridge and the place and never forget what these men did. I had a great uncle that fought in WWII as well. Thailand is such a wonderful and rich country. We will go back.
@@toddkorolphoto Mate, it looked like you had a great time. I've been over there several times as well as Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. It's an awesome part of the world. I don't own any medium format but you have inspired me to crack open a roll of TMax and go for a walk with the Spotmatic. Have a great week my friend!
@@royce3859 we are planning Vietnam and Cambodia next. We are big fans as well. Gotta love the Spotmatic!
excellent video, enjoy every second of it.
So glad, thanks!
Beautiful images a great adventure.
Thanks, yes it sure was.
Must have even fun putting this video together. Glad you had a great trip and it looks like the Rolleiflex is still ticking along well! 👍
It’s great to have a record of this trip. The Rollei worked flawlessly the entire trip!😉
fantastic collection of stunning photographs!
Thank you 🙏
Great video and a great way to share the experience of your trip. And of course also very nice photos !!
Thanks for watching 😉
Good photography

Thank you!
Great video. Love the photographs, really tells the story. Thanks to your wife that shot the footage. I also have a Rolleiflex and use it often. Funny watching you video I realized I use the same combo when I travel. A Rolleiflex and Leica m240 with 35mm Summicron , or Leica m240 with Hasselblad SWC.
Nice, that's a great combo! Thanks for watching.
I really enjoyed this.
That's great, thanks!!
TODD ; I took my TESSAR Rollei 75mm 3.5 to Central Vietnam , and Saigon and over the HI VAN PASS , Danang to HUE , 2017 .... Nice to see someone else catching up.
Rollei's are amazing camera's , and people in Vietnam love posing for them. I had many Indian , Vietnamese people come up and say that their Grandfather's had one ... long ago and they loved the Rollei's. ♥
That’s fantastic and also the next country we are going to. We are planning the trip now!!🍻
@@toddkorolphoto Go to the Fishing Villages , go out, set down, you might find yourself meeting a 15 year old boy , his Mother thrilled as he speaks English , or in a birth day party , for another child , after wading chest deep in beautiful green waters , with boats afloat in them .... yeah.
You have to be in a place , connect , then go out , far out ... into the " country " .... not near the tourists areas ... go Out. I did this and I miss so much my Second Home: VIETNAM. 🇻🇳 😣
Wonderfull, thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, I will
Nice film ! Your wife do a great job ! )
i hope someday you can go to indonesia , explore and photograph our culture like this sir .
Yes me too!! Maybe later this year.
Hello , From Thailand . Nice photo from you . Appreciate your picture and video .
Hello, we have not stopped talking about Thailand since we have gotten home. It was one of our best trips ever. Thanks.
Yours compositions on square format are really amazing
Thank you, I have long been a fan of the square composition. ;-)
“I packed my leica’s and my Rolleiflex with a big bag of black and white film and headed to this COLOURFUL country” …bold move if you ask me.
Gotta take a chance once in awhile 😉
Yeah bad move! I only use black and white at night with high iso
I absolutely love COLORA
films and airport security checks is an urban legend. I never had issue with my films and 'x-ray' stuff, I never bothered for that
Depending what x-rays they have in the airports, if they have the new CT Scanners they put multiple streaks through your film. The old traditional scanners are fine.
@@toddkorolphoto I didnt know for the new scanners, thanks
@@chriscard6544 unfortunately I learned that the hard way one time. Film was unusable after that. They actually tell you that with the new scanners too.
Really enjoyed this one mate. Love the choice of black and white 👏👏👏Happy new year to you and the family. 🎉 ☘️
Cheers! As always, thanks for watching!! And your support. ✌️
Heck of a trip. I was in Thailand a few years ago and saw many of the same sights; a wonderful trip. Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia also have much to offer.
We are headed to Vietnam and Cambodia this year 😉
Very nice and calming video. You seem to be retracing the same trip I did more than 15 years ago. Brings back lots of memories. Photos are very good too.
Thanks, it was a chill trip, tried to capture the spirit of the trip.
Oooops, should have finished watching the video. Just what i like to hear. Thanks again😬
No worries!
BehttaeKind beautiful Wife , Todd !! Your blessed. 🙏🏻💪🏻
Indeed I am. Thank you.
you took.nice photos. i ve been
several times in Thailand i like
this country... but the next time
go to Burma 45 minutes to fly
to Rangoon. Less tourists there
great temples in Bagan... without
any body... one week trip there to
enjoy the place. and then you can
visit Mandaly... and the lost city of
Mrauk u... a forgoten small place
with some great stupas and temples. And burmese pepole are
very nice and friendly....
A few people have told me about Burma, I would love to!
i really enjoyed this video. i know you love your rolleiflex 3.5f. i also use rolleiflex too. i think this video has great camerawork and editing. so i really enjoyed this video. thank you so much for sharing this.
Thanks very much, I do love my Rollei!
Looks like you had a fantastic trip with a great camerawoman! Oh, and the photos are pretty good as well. Thanks for the video.
She is awesome!
I’ve read the headless Buddha statues are from people breaking them off to sell on the black market. I hope this practice is part of the past, did you have any conversations about this?
I think you're right; your wife must be very patient! And understanding!
She’s a keeper for sure😉
Great video. If you enjoyed Thailand you should really venture to Cambodia too. I've been to Thailand probably 12 or 15 trips, but Cambodia is another perfect place to spend some time. Best regards, J.
Thanks for the tip, that is actually next on our list is Vietnam and Cambodia, Cheers!
I no longer shoot film but this is great. Wonderful photos. I have a Yashica 24 that needs repair. I always enjoyed medium-format film.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.
hello , remarkable and beautiful as always in Todd-s channel - thanks
Really appreciate it. Thanks.
❤awesome video. Thank you so much for sharing this video with us! I’m sure this video doesn’t do justice to the actual experiences of your trip there.
It does not. The trip was 100 times better!
Loved the shots! Lived in Thailand for a while and shot color but soon switched to mostly black and white because the city is SO colorful it led to a lot of "color noise" imo. Some of my earliest videos are in BKK shooting HP5! Shooting BnW brought the focus back to the images and away for the colors like you said. It's a beautiful country, so either way you can't really go wrong! Nice video 👍🏽👍🏽
That’s great, using b&w is a little more timeless as well. Great country. Thanks for watching.
Is theft of camera equipment common there ? Terrific video.
Excellent video. I did almost the same trip but only stayed for two weeks. Apparently the current bridge over the river Kwai was built 6 months after the original wooden one was destroyed.
Great country to travel in!
Lovely images and great video. I have a trip later in the month within the US and have been on the fence about bringing the camera and film, whether it’s worth the hassle at the airport. Your video reminds us that it often is worth the effort.
If you have everything ready at the security checks, it's very easy, I had zero issues. Good luck.
Thanks for sharing todd, i noticed u hold ur fork with your right hand while eating 😅 and thanks to your wife 🫶🏻
She's awesome!
really excellent todd, love the black & white and the square format. zen billings
Thanks very much. Happy New Year.
I like your idea of being up front with the airport security regarding your film. Do you ask them to not scan or do they refrain on their own accord? Beautiful place to visit and photograph. Looking forward to your next one.
I just ask them to hand inspect the film. Thanks
Thank you for sharing, how was your experience traveling through the airports with film? Where you able to get your film hand check or did you trust the x-ray machines. I'm wanting to travel with film abroad. Thank you
Everywhere was hand checked no problems. You have to have your film out of any containers or boxes and in a clear plastic bag. Zero issues.
Great video Todd. Are all films ok after X ray machines? Hand carry them ? Cheers.
Thanks. Yes putting film through a regular x-ray machine is fine, I have done it many times. Repeated x-rays will create base fog. But, some of the new CT scanners will harm film, so I just always ask for hand inspection. Also read this. carmencitafilmlab.com/blog/airport-x-ray-will-they-ruin-your-film/
Thanks heaps.@@toddkorolphoto
None stop action, not even Anthony Bourdain can put a video like this.
Bourdain was the best.
Thanks, for sharing. Question; If you could only keep your Rollei or your H 500 which would you drop? Also, if you were to do it again, would you still choose the 3.5 vs a 2.8 Rollei? I’m trying to decide on a MF platform. Again, thanks for sharing your images! Always inspiring!
I’d keep the Rollei for what I do, way easier to travel with and carry around. I’m still n the hunt for a mint 2.8 😉
Todd, thanks! I’m getting ready to retire and trying to get my major camera purchases done before I do! Thanks, again!
@@timcmiles you’re welcome, thanks for watching.
I am planning a trip with my Medium format to SE Asia (Philippines), Texas Leica 6x9. CT scanner dodging, a mix of all types (C41/E6/BW) film and a tripod! These videos are inspiring because for 12 years I had the aspiration to do a photographic expedition with medium format film and finally it should happen this autumn. Great tips too (waterfalls) as well as the ethos of film on the road.
I intend to backpack some segments and... I just keep seeing every travel video without the gear carrying... how do you manage without carrying the bag and tripod all along?
Like the ending, photographic wonderland...
If I haul a tripod around I just take the stuff I will use. I am guilty of this, but we always take too much camera equipment. I love walking around with just one camera and it forces you to see a certain way, which then gives you authorship.
@@toddkorolphoto I was to comment on the Cuba video as it's much more that approach. I am a maximalist in a way, if there are film cameras there will be also digital ones and for an Asian trip with 120 tons of film will be needed. But usually doesn't really affect as I tend to stick for a while in what I chose. In digital I think an RX100 is everything I nowadays need.
@@wotajared Yes and the RX100 is a great little camera!
If you ever visit Southeast Asia again, try to visit Bali
Yes we would love to. I have a friend who was there for 2 months last year and she loved it.
@@toddkorolphoto yes worth to visit. The people, landscape and culture will amaze you.
Btw, great video as always. I love this photo 17:04 great shot
Thanks, we are planning Vietnam in the fall, perhaps hop over to Bali as well.@@gunadwi9177
do you run into parallax issues with your Rollei or do you just shoot things at a distance so it doesn't have as much of an impact? My Rolleiflex was my first 120 camera, but I really started to get annoyed with frames being off
This Rollei corrects for parallax, it works really well.
Todd - do you notice any increase in stiffness at the film advance lever of the Rollei when you've finished the roll and the last frame has been shot / you're winding in the end-paper? - I recently got a 3.5F and notice this with mine. Thanks.
No I don't think so, pretty much the same all the way through.Very smooth through the whole roll.
@@toddkorolphoto Okay thanks Todd. Maybe it has to go back to the repairer. I enjoyed this video by the way. Some nice shots from the Rollei too.
Wonderful Photos and videos!! I just purchased a Rolleiflex 3.5 today…excited but somewhat anxious about trying. Haven’t used a film camera (my Nikon FM) in decades. One question…the strap that came with the camera is original, but is very worn. Any suggestions for a new strap? Thanks for posting these photos!
Thanks, that sounds great. Yes my strap was worn as well. There are a lot of great straps on eBay, I bought one it’s great. www.luigicases.com These guys make great straps as well. For sure get a new strap, the old ones break and your camera will come crashing down.
@@toddkorolphotoThanks Todd!
@@toddkorolphotohi again. I don’t want to skimp on a strap, but the Luigi is a little steep for me. Would really appreciate any other recommendations you might have. If not, I’ll just order one from Amazon.. Thanks!
PS, this video could be on PBS.
@@williamotto2725 thanks. I just bought one on eBay with the right connections for the Rollei. I think it was $40
@@toddkorolphotothanks for getting back and have a good week!
but how you got through security x rays with film, did they handcheck it?
They hand checked it at every airport. I just asked and had all the film in a clear plastic ziplock.
Hi Todd
Noticed you occasionally use a lens hood. What prompts you to use (and do you recommend rubber or metal?). And do you use any filters on your Rolleiflex? Protective UV filter for example
Thanks!! I want to visit Thailand !
I use a metal lens hood all the time on the Rollei. And yes depending on the light and film I will use a yellow or red filter.
@@toddkorolphoto Thanks. Sorry for all the questions, but one final one if I could…a piece of my leather Rolleiflex case apparently fell off (and of course I can’t find)…a half dollar size circular leather piece with a hole center, on the side of the case, and now sharp little stainless steel “spikes”are visible in the opening. Maybe a local leather shop can replace the leather piece?
I just read however that leather is not particularly good for vintage metal cameras. I would really appreciate any thoughts. Wow…I haven’t taken a single picture yet, and already problems and expenses. I guess that comes with the vintage territory.😩 thanks again Todd!
When you say, "the bridge" and "the movie" at about 4:55, are you referring to the movie "The Bridge On The River Kwai"? If so,...kind of a dumb omission not to mention that title.
Well if you watch the video, at 4:00, I say we discovered that the Bridge On The River Kwai is 2 hours from Bangkok, and I talk about how many times I watched the epic 1957 movie, then I talk about where it is....
@@toddkorolphoto Oops, okay my mistake. Missed that, thought it should have been mentioned when the bridge images were in view.
Brag, brag, brag about camera collection
Todd : Square works well in Thailand.
Sure did!!
