I agree with you about when we were young we never questioned our own mortality. I was just thinking today,What is the age we discover that we will all die someday ? We all know that it will eventually happen to each of us. But it's not till we develop an illness,or reach a certain age that we come to terms with the idea that we will someday leave this planet. 🚤 My mom’s sister died when I was 5 and it really affected my mom. She MADE me go look at Aunt Polly in the open casket - I distinctly remember not wanting to - and I have never forgotten the experience. To this day, I won’t go look.
Could it be that the man was the father, but as a Native America, living in the United States, he couldn't bear to see his son grow up in that country...? I dunno. I haven't read it, so I may be really off the mark.
