I am not sure if Sepp Maier is in that group. And I am saying that as someone who was a big fan of the Bayern team and the German national team in those years. Hellström, Zoff and Tomaszewski were better imho. Maier was always prone to produce at least one capital error in game. In this one Maier does not look good conceding the first goal from Edstrom and the 2:2 equalizer (5:27) has him catastrophically out of position. Maier was a weird mix of artistry and amateurish gaffes.
@@omnivorous65 I agree with you. Maier had pretty good reflexes, but he certainly lacked the vigour and athletic sportsmanship of today's keepers. And he bungled quite frequently.

It is because of Ireland no joke... Ireland was the first country who played a football game with Germany after the WWII..... therefore the Germans choosen green away shirts
The myth is that the roots of green lie in post-World War II Germany. Many believe Ireland were the first team willing to play against Germany after the war ended, and so the Germans remembered the gesture by donning Ireland’s traditional green kits. The truth is, however, that the green does not have anything to do with Ireland. Actually, the first team to play Germany after the war was Switzerland. As for the green and white combo? Well, it wasn’t purely motivated by aesthetics. The colors are derived from the DFB (German football federation) logo, which was designed using green and white, the colors that make up a football pitch. So Ireland, you’re still great, but you’re not responsible for the creation of these awesome green kits.@@albionmyl7735
The would-be world champions showed their first hint of superiority in this match. I'd say it was decisive for the later World Cup triumph. Sweden were always an uncomfortable team to play against - very athletic and combative, yet in the long run West German individual class mostly managed to succeed. However, after the poor first-round matches (including FRG vs. GDR), the West German team was deeply under pressure, and this match showed they were indeed able to win the tournament.
That's not true. Sweden only won two games at the World Cup, and one when they were already eliminated. Poland won six games, more than any other, and only lost one game against Germany that they deserved to win.
The Polish team in '74 was great. Lato, Tomaszewski, Deyna, I remember some of their player to this day. Eliminated England in the qualifying round. Everyone raved about the Dutch team in that tournament. If Poland had advanced to the finals they would have beaten the Netherlands. They were that good
@@omnivorous65 I have always thought the same. If Poland had played Germany on a normal pitch, not the one that was flooded, they would have certainly been finalists, and the Poles, as Cruyff said, were one of the few teams that could beat Holland.

Bad video for a great match. We see every action in a reasonable way, we could say 'since the start'. Then the goal appears. The scene starts with the final kick (deliberately). Then, a flood of replays. The match goes on, with actions that we can see 'since the start'. Suddenly a shot: goal. Completely intentional by the video maker. And a flood of replays. Inefficient and silly.
No Diving, No Drama, No Protest, No Tattoo, it was really football game
The 70's, my favorite decade in football, by far.
I remember watching this game with my dad, live back home in Germany.
Two of the three best goalies of the seventies along with Dino Zoff.

@@albionmyl7735 Actually, Germany's first match after the War (talking of Western Germany, the old 'Bundesrepublik') was against Switzerland.
What a nice volley to open the scoring :)
