  • One of the best software houses for the BBC creating applications, development systems and games. Publisher of one of the largest games of the 80's Elite. It's development team went of to create RiscOS for Acorn, and create the system that manages our heating at home.
    aBug where kind enough to include me in their reunion event which is where I was able to record the footage of Paul Fellows and Jonathan Griffiths, so a huge thank you to all of them.

    I played Tube Elite on a 65C102 co-pro - noticeably more grunt (and therefore smoother!)

      I had to wait a long time to play it, but glad I finally did get to.

    I used Beebs a little bit at school... but mostly at college.
    At school we had 2 Research Machines 380Zs... The Beeb had it's wonderful built in 6502 assembler... and the 380Z had it's equally wonderful Z80 machine code monitor... I don't think I've ever used as good a debugger as the 380Z even right up to this century.
    I'd love to see Research Machines get The RetroBytes Treatment! PLEASE!

      I need to get my hands on a 380Z so I can become familiar with it. I loved that the 380z had an econet interface produced for it.

      Really glad you liked it, it was great being able to see some of Acornsoft's developers talking about there time there.

    The early release of Snapper looked *exactly" like PacMan... I assume that was the point when the lawyers called.
    I think the same is true of Defender too...
    Those, and Rocket Raid, really were incredibly accurate reproductions of the arcade releases.

    Great video! My early gaming experience was almost exclusively Acornsoft titles on the electron (the only others being Superior Software)

      Same here, I got a few acornsoft games with my Elk and the welcome tape. Sadly only count down to doom was on a rom cartridge, if I had a choice I would have gone for snapper on cartridge. I think the games that came with it was all I had for the first six months, then I bought Elite.

      Great memories! I remember the flogger clone being called "Croaker". The same disk had a few other bits like Killer Gorilla.

    Wait you can get Forth for the Acorn? So I could write firmware stacks and Linux Kernel modules on an Acorn?

    • @RetroBytesUK
      @RetroBytesUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well its the Forth-79 standard, and you're a bit limited on memory, with a bit less than the BBC B's 32k, but it did work, and was quite rapid compared to Basic.
