- Unboxing the Honor Pad 8 budget Android tablet, plus hands-on review of the gaming smarts, media chops and other features. The Honor Pad 8 could be one of the best affordable tabs of 2022 if you don't want to go iPad, with a UK asking price under £300.
Powered by the Snapdragon 680, this tablet can cope with all of the usual shenanigans including web browsing, media streaming and even some light gaming. Genshin Impact can be played on the lowest detail settings with a reasonable frame rate, for instance. The Honor Pad 8's 12-inch screen is crisp and pumps out attractive visuals for this budget price, while the 8-speaker setup is also great stuff.
You don't have expandable storage or LTE/5G support here sadly, while there's also no headphone jack. So yeah, it's Bluetooth all the way for your 'phones.
The Honor Pad 8 also offers dual 5MP cameras, and MagicUI 6 on top of Android 12. This adds in the usual extra features and thankfully not much crapware to delete!

Nice screen sise, would be nice if one day they would include a good case or a kickstand built in so that you can use your tablet if you're watching something.

Got one a couple of months ago for £179 from Argos. Really glad I got this one. For web browsing, docs editing and streaming it is really great. Speakers are great.

Worth considering. I'm still using my Galaxy S5e which is great for streaming while running a VPN and can take a SIM too when required
Your Tab S5e is far superior to this device. Hopefully you bought the 128GB model. OLED pin sharp screen. Dolby Atmos which is superior to the DTS on offer here. I have the Honor Magicbook Pro AMD. Fantastic laptop - 16.1" screen with good colour accuracy, 16GB RAM, 512GB ROM and of course the powerful 45 Watt AMD Ryzen 54600H chip. Everyone said it's tunable quad DTS speakers were great. I find the speakers mediocre. They are above average for a laptop though. The point is your Dolby Atmos Quad speakers will be better than what's on offer here.

It seems no more software updates for my Galaxy S5e. The last security patch was Nov 22. A real shame as the tablet works really well, good battery life and in perfect condition
Does this Honor have a GPS receiver? I need a tablet for mapping that does not rely on wifi or other external connectivity
This tablet by Honor is a true value for the money that comes with the integrated mediatek chipset and also beautiful display.

I just ordered this to replace my galaxy tab 10 which has become slower than a snail with a drag chute! I only use my tablet to browse social media etc and I wanted a nice big screen, so this sound fit the bill nicely. Currently only £179 direct from Honor also, can't really complain. Thanks for the review!
I just got a Samsung a8 it lags and it keeps disconnecting me from the WiFi and I have watched endless videos to fix it.But I'm going to return it and get the honor.

I bought this recently. I like it. I’m impressed with the picture quality, sound. Better than my iPad Pro 2021. I watch a lot of movies on it and play games.

@luminanace3300 it is in my opinion. A wider screen. Took it to America and noticed amazing features when I watched movies. The picture quality is not great for photos, but other than that it's OK.

I bought this tablet 1 month ago and I can only say which is perfect, (besides beautiful metal,) it is redundant in power, cheap and intelligent, because you will use the gps, or mobile phone, or wifi, where you will be connected!

I’ve ordered one after watching your review ( and subsequent others) was the one you tested a preproduction unit as others are describing it as having an aluminium body not plastic.
I was almost sucked into spending a fortune on an iPad / Samsung tablet but for what I actually need this should be more than good enough. It will hopefully be here in 2 days so fingers crossed 😉

Actually looks like an Ipad mini but its much needed a big spec 7/8" screen tablet. That can fast charge!!! Thanks finally. Reverse charging too apparently? No headphone jack is a let down though.

I've got family members using iPads with the latest updates which are several years old. It's not just the initial cost to consider.
Most apps on ipados are only available with ios13 on an ipad and the latest is ios15 while android apps requires android 6 and the latest android version is 12, thats like 6 years apart while ios only allows a 2 with apps. What I am saying is, even if an android tab only has 2 years of updates it will still have more features by the time an ipad (released on the same year) hits its 5 year or last update. Plus if an ipad released thesame year than an android tab, they would both still support both apps and those big software updates puts a toll on the device hardware anyways

I had several android tablets but had so many issues, heat etc, poorly designed apps and lack of long term support. I wasted so much money on those (Samsung, Sony, LG,...).
@@bojji3538 even iPad Air 1gen runs pretty solid on its latest is and still get security updates, this device is nearly 9 years old and can still run most important apps for most people…
So what are you talking about?!
With android you get with luck 3 major updates and with even more luck + 2 years security, for devices wich get this kind of support you pay easily 500€/$ and more (mostly more), with the 300€/$ starting iPad you will get easily 6-7 major updates and after that a couple of years security…
So in this department android is not even close and not even for 1000€/$ plus you get a similar support you get on the cheapest iPad for just 300 bucks…
@@Eddy_E. girl, it cant even run youtube😭 because youtube requires ios 12 to be run, i literally have one. Its stuck on ios 9 the hell, and for your information 9 year old android tablets can still download and run youtube, although its laggy🤣

And iOS 9 is on divides like iPad 2, iPad mini 1, iPhone 4s and stuff like this and the only device wich is younger then 11 years is the iPad mini with 10 years…
And those old devices are nearly all useless today not important if it is an iOS device or an android device…
Android devices wich are so old are mostly stuck on android 4 with some luck 5 and guess what, on none of those devices you can install the TH-cam app anymore cause even on android it needs at least version 6 and devices wich supports that are mostly just 4-6 years old…

My honour pad has just arrived and its amazing for the price of £199 nice big screen, 12", light weight, nice cover. Better than an iPad or Samsung, plenty of space, nice big battery lasts all day, quick charging, all in all a very nice tablet. :-)

Just bought one from Amazon for £189 getting delivered Tuesday cant wait as my Samsung galaxy tab s6 lite just after a year is completely fecked it keeps non stop restarting at boot screen so the update by the looks of it messed it up and theres no way to fix it

It's almost identical to my Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 10.1" tablet except my tablet has an SD card tray.
not identical i have the a7 and it sucks compared to this tab hence why ive ordered it 6gb ram instead of 3

Also if you haven't used this tablet how do you know it's better? More ram doesn't always mean better.

@@SleepyMikaOnline and as I said more ram isn't ALWAYS better. More faster ram is better but if it's the same speed ram it isn't always better. What always matters more than more ram is faster ram , a faster processor and faster storage.
If the ram is the same speed , CPU is the same speed and storage is the same speed then more ram will make no difference to how fast things will run. It will just allow more apps to remain running in the background.
