    The majestic Ostrich, they sleep at the dunes and appear as a bush from the distance. Very large bird. Very aggressive with beak and it appears they avoid sitting in the water, unlike the duck. All these things I have learned. Next I will observe the bovine who loiter endlessly around the water hole. They remain there unchallenged until the mighty giraffe enters the scene for a quenching, at which time all the creatures make haste. All this at a single water hole.

      Those bovine you see loitering around the water hole are Oryx a type of antelope

    I can identify with the little ostrich chick to get to the water last.
    Let me roll in the mud & get dirty now; then I can clean up afterwards 😁

    I'm new to the page. Is this a natural spring someone has reinforced or is it a man made waterer, please?

    • @NamibiaCam
      @NamibiaCam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Man made. Built in 2006, the special character of this waterhole, has not only an impact on the surrounding wildlife, but stretches across the globe, from home to home. This particular waterhole is situated within an open plain, 8km from Namib Desert Lodge.
      A solar-powered borehole fills a nearby reservoir and is monitored by a water float that opens as the waterhole’s levels decline.

    Very interesting webcam.
    I have a question,
    Since you have water,
    Why don't you plant Moringa oleifera trees in the area?
    They withstand the heat very well and do not require much water.
    Besides their leaves are very nutritious and most importantly
    they would create semi-shade where other plants could grow and make a more pleasant place for the local fauna.

    • @eg-draw
      @eg-draw ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sounds like a good way to destroy local ecosystem

    • @oftin_wong
      @oftin_wong ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because introducing plants and or animals where they don't belong
      Is not a good idea ...history has shown us this, time for you to now learn it
