No offence Ellie you doing good with the videos but you talk too much sometimes. Let the trainers talk. No hard feelings mate keep reporting. Just let the subject to the explanation more
You need to train both with and without hand protection. Don't damage your hands by punching too hard, but get used to the placement of the correct knuckles when you're hitting something. Too much padding allows you to cheat a little, so training with different glove sizes forces you to stay honest. Again, take care of your hands, but try new things and don't be a superhero the first time you do. Good video, I'm gonna go grab some of these gardening gloves... maybe plant some tomatoes too.
when i was in college, i used to use canvas gardening gloves w/out cutting off the fingers, on a canvas bag. it toughened my fists but protected them from getting cut.
I saw it too. I'd Dodge it every time like that. But I'm sure thats not how he actually throws it. He probably has you walk right in to it with a setup
Guys remember this when we use this Gloves we properly wrap the hands so there is support on the wrist and hands, that's your bread and butter u have to protect them.
Ricky Funez ay man. This is a top coach. Yes protect your wrists but he’s saying most fighters hands is weak just cause of what you saying and thinking
Its understandable but the same time its like how Thai's wear shin guards and you see some kicking trees or whatever thats because they also condition their shins without padding you have to get use to it im not saying go and start smashing on bricks but if you do it smart your bones strengthen
This man knows what he's talking about. Condition your hands! Hit bareknucle or with as little padding as possible. Be smart about it and your fists will become much harder.
Exactly. I Always hit the bag with my naked hand. Outside Mexico a lot of people are always talking about buying expensive gloves to not to hurt their hands. Boxing is not for princesses.
But those hands are money makers. Mess 'em up and you don't make money. For a pro, I understand why they don't wanna take the risk. But, if what this guy is saying is true, maybe padding causes more injury in the long run.
Jivan Grewal look at Ali, Duran, marciano, Chavez, etc. they all used to train with no padded gloves . The used to wear just leader mitts to protect the skin. Those guys used to hit like a hammer because of this method.
Word, I've been hitting the heavy bag bareknuckle for over ten years and never once injured myself. I bled when I first started but once the skin toughened I never had an issue again. The only time I've hurt myself training was while wearing gloves because I either landed at a weird angle or I hyperextended from missing. I want to try the garden gloves though as I wonder if I unconsciously pull my punches when they arent covered.
Jivan Grewal exactly, I can imagine I'd hurt someone with a bodyshot with a glove on but I feel I'd hurt my hand more then hurt them if it was bare knuckle. There's so shock absorbent there.
All true and quality advice. Only one thing. If you're family-prone to arthritis, in later life it can be a problem...more pain in joints & knuckles. Is it worth it? For KO power, I sacrificed, and won some beauts. Yes, for me; no for most. Am paying a heavy price now (age? past 70). Good luck, one and all...and never forget: Keep punchin'...! Solo Deo Gloria, JC
100% right. Don't forget to think about your 60-70 year old self and what your quality of life might be because of the decisions you make when you are young. Heavy bag and bare hands make sense for some such as pro's and top amateurs aspiring to be a pro, but for most folks maybe not. If you decide it is for you, go easy at first (don't go all out), build slowly, and concentrate on form/technique.
yeah I agree bare knuckle training is important overall but you need to remember about wrist protection, to avoid injuries of course, and I suppose training like that should not be performed too often, like with plyometrics or shin conditioning you should give it a time to regenerate.
Some people say that when someone hits hard its because he's heavy handed and that speed is a gift from God! Boxing is an art and some people are born with the talent and some say that you can learn it buy hard work, but just like any other Sport or Art not everybody can make it to the top only a small percentage of boxers become rich and famous!
i need some advice, i'm left handed but i've always boxed orthodox for some reason, the other day i tried a little southpaw on the bag like i usually do and noticed that i have more power in my left when i throw a straight, should i switch to southpaw or stay orthodox? or maybe even do both?
I mean, southpaw is for lefties, so that would make the most sense. My boxing coach says that you shouldnt do both, but I dont really know why you shouldn't.
I'm right handed and I have the same issue but it's all bout practice bro repetition is the key you'll eventually strengthen ur brain to think all southpaw if u keep at it but honestly nobody can advice u on what to do cuz it's just bout ur self preservation bro do what felt comfortable to u I mean Bruce lee always advocated the stinger hand forward…
+Ryan Youngroyalty and u shouldn't do both preferable because it will confuse your brain and ur footing has to keep switching and it will keep u off balance allot what Ever u decide just make sure ur set but it's prolly ok to train both sides on ur own tym or in shadow boxing because that what u won't be lop sided meaning ur favoriting and choreographic I mean Roy jones would switch up every few rounds of training his dad made him so that he could learn if he gets weak on one side he can swictxh up or he do it as trickery so they. Never know how he's coming
Half the time I don't use gloves at all, and when I do I use the lite padded bag gloves... if the padding is still there.

i can recommend one step better. as a kid i did karate and they had a 5ft timber post that was bound near the top by a thick fibre rope. you would stand in front and throw very short vertical punches to achieve the same effect described in the vid. i developed the callouses but an older friend of mine had the hardest most conditioned fists i ever seen from this technique. he fucked up a lot of guys on the street and then as a bouncer later. ill always remember a dude walk in off the street and laughed at how light we were punching it. he scoffed "thats not how you punch" and then he threw the hardest fucking shot hahaha he collapsed on the floor he broke his damn hand haha
Probably somewhat because the bone is becoming more dense and therefore bigger so that may reduce some dexterity. I was just thinking this aswell because I have been learning guitar and doing a bit of boxing.
LHudson ART/LIFTS that would make sense except that i don't think the bones get bigger, just denser from the inside. have u noticed any difference in dexterity? i punched the heavy bag regularly when i was in college wearing just canvas gloves. i did bust a capsule in my knuckle that a dr looked at. it healed up ok. since i quit playing for about 20 yrs & then resumed about 7 yrs ago, i wouldn't b able to tell if it affected my dexterity. good luck in your endeavors.
Thanks man and the same to you! I actually have a photorealstic drawing that I finished of floyd and manny on my channel if you have a second to check it out! The bones actually do get a little larger but that would be from many years(have you ever seen bare knuckle fighters hands? Their knuckles are huge) but yes mainly denser, everytime we pretty much do anything our bones get micro breaks and the osteo cells(can't remember their proper name) get to work on repairing them but for them to change significantly in size it would take a while for any difference so I think we will be fine bud!
I've had a lot of fights on the streets.A fight at least every day, or every other day , for about 10 years. When I would fight I would throw alot of punches ,the way i twisted into The punch,(incorrectly) and often hitting with the lower part of my knuckles, I would often bust open my knuckles .The more it happened the easier it became for them to bust.I've had several hand infections(cellulitis) from hitting people in the mouth (highly infectous bacteria). Now I have a large amount of scar tissue on both my top knuckles and my lower knuckles. My hands are practically, but not completely, useless for anything that requires alot of dexterity. Its difficult moving my fingers and a bitch to type on a phone like I do now.I have arthritis in one hand from a boxers fracture that needed pins ,but I never got the surgery. If I were you ,i would stick with piano or guitar.Fighting life style gets you nothing but damaged usually.Brain damage , other physical damage, jail or prison time, bragging rights ,thats nothing to be proud of. That's about it ,stick with the music. You'll be A better man for it.Sorry so long. And so late.
i believe u. that's y a lot of martial arts instructors say to use palm strikes instead, when ur in a real fight. i've had my share of fights & luckily haven't hurt myself badly. i'm just wondering if a person were to slowly build up to punching the bag hard, over a period of months, if that would toughen the knuckles w/out affecting dexterity too much. that's what i did later when i was in college. but since that was so many yrs ago & i started playing guitar again after not doing so for 20+ yrs, i can't tell if it had any detrimental effect on my playing. my doctor discouraged me from punching the heavy bag w/out any protection, no matter how i went about it. take care.
i am no boxer or anything but in some point i did some mma and i have decent forarm muscles so i dont use any kind of gloves it works pretty well for me dunno if im wrong
Thats what we use here in mexico when ever you start training or go to a boxing gym the coah which is always an old guy like 60 years old tells you to buy those little gloves
I normally train without gloves and sometimes with wraps but i train for street fighting, not that I'm a street fighter but when i need to fight I can, I do modern kung fu so what should i stick to on the bag?
@Hunnid P lol replying after 6 years well I'm back to reply after 3, looks like someone is abit salty that other people know how to fight? Ahaha feel sorry for you mate
Yup his dropping his right hand right before throwing it! You should lead with the shoulders throwing the cross and at the end turn the wrist to get the cut!
Same here but my knuckles has gotten stronger by hitting the heavy-bag bare hand by the time I got a small injury on the skin above the knuckle so it was worth the pain for me
ItzCountey oh ok makes sense but like my right hand I can hit the bag hard and not feel much pain , but my left hand has always had that bruise like pain
Jcod 123 That's because your naturally used to the right side of your body if I'm right and the other side can easilly feel pain that's pretty much same for me

The interviewer is annoying. Shouting over and interrupting every time the interviewee opens his mouth to explain something. Sounds like a little kid hungry to let you know he knows something and just has to walk over your conversation.
Man, that dude cracks with that right hand. His form is crazy efficient. Mad respect!
Boxing Fan He used to be a boxer.
No offence Ellie you doing good with the videos but you talk too much sometimes. Let the trainers talk. No hard feelings mate keep reporting. Just let the subject to the explanation more
I was thinking the same
Relax, it's a 7min vid he's doing just fine. It's his vid after all

why dont you pull up to ten goose and make the video

No wonder fighters back in the 30s,40s and 50s used small tiny gloves on the heavy bag. Such as Rocky Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson and so many others
They still make 'em. Rival makes an old school bag mitt. I own a pair, and they're great.
Those are called bag mitts dumb kid, fighters still use them for the heavy bag.
I always like to use smaller gloves I totally agree it's a way better way to train and practice especially on the bag
@@BlackSpineHorror I got those
@@rotichawal6697 Don't call him dumb kid
just use what margarito used to before he got caught.
😂

That easy huh lol
when i was in college, i used to use canvas gardening gloves w/out cutting off the fingers, on a canvas bag. it toughened my fists but protected them from getting cut.
Who's here after Fousey started training with him?
Ibrahim Allan No I saw this video 2 years ago
And lost the fight
you are dropping your rite hand before you throw it yourself.
I saw it too. I'd Dodge it every time like that. But I'm sure thats not how he actually throws it. He probably has you walk right in to it with a setup

Lol you have a mind of 10 yr old...if you are competing fighter then bareknuckle practice is bad for u
@@MsRiyab No. It works. You just have to mix up. 20% no gloves for conditioning and 80% standard boxing gloves for regular training.

beginners need something to protect their wrists. 1 small mistake and it's a fractured wrist or broken fingers
i think they want micro fractures to happen

I hit the heavy with no padding no gloves. If you hit correctly you won't scuff your knuckles.
Theres nothing worse than getting cuts on your finger nuckles, especially for a pro boxer whos boxing every day as they take months to heal

i hear that

sounds like a shotgun going off.

could you not just use hand wraps?

try closing your eyes & just blast away at the heavy bag bare fisted with everything you got! thats real close to how it is in a street fight, your punches glance, & miss, don't always land the way you want...lol
that padding in that bag is getting weaker each punch, daym ima start doing this
I can get you even more power.

This can't make sense.. i got a 200 lbs punching bag i can seriously hurt and break my fists punching it like that!
then obviously your wrists are to weak
I see u can use it like a second skin. uses more hand muscles.
It Works!
I.can break iron with one punch. Been training all my life.
i used to punch my wall to strengthen my knuckles to the point where i was able to punch the wall with full force without feeling the pain with a lil bit of padding from paper towels, this thing with the gardening gloves will strengthen your wrists.
vivalacarlo you cant strengthen your knuckles...
Jamie Parson yes you can...it's wolf's law, you make little micro fracture in the bone and it fills with more bone making them bigger and stronger, but you have to build up the strength gradually or risk serious injury
get some bag mitts
I tried this, it hurt
