I love that rubber finger tip idea! good thinking! Whenever I have a problem, I always try to think outside the box for a solution! I'll defiantly try that! 👍
thank you for the video! I just got a Dandie Dinmont puppy and I believe the breed also needs hand stripping because they have an exterior layer of "rough" coat as well as an inside layer. Will I also have to give daily brushes with a slicker and a greyhound comb to stay ahead of matting, or will the hand stripping alone be adequate? (I'm a complete novice)
Honestly I don't know if people ever say just "stripping". So it could be one and the same thing. I know that you can hand strip with your fingers (thus, your hand) or by using the stripping knife, maybe that's the difference? But I'm not sure, it's a good question! I have never heard anyone say just stripping :)
I have an 11 month old Scottish terrier and I want to start doing this hand stripping early but he hates to sit still for more than 5 minutes! 😅 I hope he might calm down as he gets older. This is helpful though! Thanks! 😊
It's great that you'll be teaching him now to sit for hand stripping! Maybe try it little by little? 😊At first, just do 3 minutes, then reward generously with treats or fun playtime! After a few days, do another 3 minutes and so on, then move on to 5, 10 minutes when he gets more comfortable with it. It will take a while, but this way he will enjoy the process and become comfortable with staying there longer 🥰
Hi! Hand stripping is for a few specific breeds and I recommend you check if your dog is among them. Usually it's for dogs who have both an exterior layer of coat as well as an inside layer. I would suggest you google it or check with a groomer.
We use pedicure stone (for human) and it works perfectly! Just do it small section by section. 1st time 3 of us did it for an hour and 30min. A big bucket full of dead hair. And our dog is even smaller then this one. She was full of too mature and dead hair, although i brush her every day with furminator. Cant believe the difference now! Her hair shiny and soft. Before it was dull and sharp.
Thank you so much for this video! I have a westie her name is coconut! Her breeder was also a groomer and she taught me how to hand strip but it takes so long. I see you posted a link to the tools, thank you. How often do you strip your dog? Also do you ever use clippers on any part of your dogs body?
Hi! I am so glad you found it useful! Yes, hand stripping takes very long, at the groomer's she spends about 2 hours on hand stripping alone. I prefer to take him every 1-2 months to the groomer's, but when I can't I usually do a little bit every day, whenever I have time. I put something on TV and I hand strip a little everywhere. I use clippers too, yes, and the groomer does too, at the end. She clips the back and tail and then uses the scissors to shape the legs and head :)
Honestly, I am learning as we go and this was my first time doing this 😅So in no way am I claiming to be an expert. Looking back now, I'm sure I could've done many things better 😄❤️

Can you please tell me if dog stripping and hand stripping is the same?

What type of coat does a dog need in order to be hand stripped? My dog has a wiry coat but no undercoat. Is this something he would benefit from?

Werent you supposed to go ine (small) section by section? This way dogs look messy at the end.

How old is Sami by the way? 🐶🐾❤️
Ooops sorry, I see it in the description now.
@@dwestiethewestie By now he's 2 already :)
Please look on TH-cam how to groom your Westie ! It's not only a question of pulling hair but also giving him/her a good look.
Why isn’t he on a grooming table…. It would be so much easier on your back 😬
Ni fait , ni à faire dommage , je n' ai pas vu vraiment , voir pas du tout enlever de poils .
résultat final nul.
