One thing I find helpful is to shop around for things where quality differences aren't significant. You mentioned cell phone plans and using gas buddy, both of which are great. I also like to call around different car insurance companies every year or so to get a better deal. Often times, you can use another providers price as leverage to negotiate a better deal with your existing company.
Pay everything on time to avoid late fees and finance charges. Follow a budget on Excel. Been doing this for 30 years. Husband and I are now worth over one million dollars. Also... Don't buy lottery tickets.
I'm practicing it now I have changed my lifestyle so I don't buy certain things that don't add value in my life. And lol I have gone back to using old fashioned soap every day not body washes not deodorants etc which is healthier less chemicals also not falling for the consumer temptations anymore. But still cooking delicious food etc
This is SO true. All of these online sales saying, 30% off and even showing there are only 4 left? What? It creates urgency that you are going to miss out on a huge opportunity! Marketing is a career people go to school to learn, and they are good at it!!

2 years ago I went from a whole life under the breadline to earning a lot of money. I moved out of my literal black mould infested, cold & drafty fibro shack into another fairly small flat that meets basic standards of living. I started going to the dentist, the doctor & buying basic furniture which I hadn't been able to do for over a decade. I by no means live an extravagant life & I do technically save 40% of my income (I work for myself so I have more expenses than employees) but times are still tight! I'm so shocked that I can earn this sort of money & still won't be going on holidays or having a big food budget or getting my nails done lol. The cost of living in Australia is offensive. I'm finally privileged enough to be able to save, but it's unnerving how expensive meeting a basic standard of living is. I'm so glad you're able to put your pay rise away! 🙌
I moved onboard my sailboat, my yearly cost of living is down to $3500, I can't be bothered having a job. All I do is my hobbies, sailing, fishing, online gaming, watching old movies and ride my CT 125 seeing stuff.
EXACTLY Austin! Over consuming is the problem. There was never a shortage of toilet paper for example. The problem was people hoarding it. We drive the market with our greed.
With all due respect Robert the toilet paper " shortage" at the beginning of the covid pandemic was a pre-planned staged event.. I know it sounds crazy but it's true... I have no motivation or reason to lie.. I am on the inside in that department... but yes the hoarding did make it worse...ALL PART OF THE PLAN...
I was at a car dealer recently. And that car salesman said. People can be mad at us… or at shortage.. or inflation.. but they don’t look in the mirrors. As long as they keep coming here in the shops and buy and buy and buy.. than we are stupid when we’re lowering the sticker price. And he was so right. Yes things are to expensive.. but not the shops or companies or the world keep them expensive. We are doing it to ourselves. Stop consuming! Stop buying new cars or some other materials because you want something else or just to treat yourself. Only buy something when you really really need it because there’s no option. . If we keep consuming wants than it never will be beter only worst. Now it’a the time to just look at our needs

Budgeting indeed helps to save money. As well I go only 1-2 time a month to the food shop. I stock discounts and everything else to never come again (but next month). Why this is good? You are not saving only money, but your time and energy as well. Use freezer and freeze about to expire food from the big discounts. It can be used for months. I don't go anywhere nowadays wallet with me, only when you need it. Saves money. Trips you use car or bus for maybe can be walked or cycled. My last purchase was two weeks ago on my card, even my bank agent called if I still have that card with me :D I had, no problem.
It can be hard in UK.When I lived there I was always annoyed by reach people gathering around the reduced shelves in tesco or asda.I knew they had money cause I could recognise some of them,they were my customers ,wealthy people living in huge houses,having cleaners,gardeners and so on,but they were the ones complaining the most about prices and grabbing the food from the reduced shelves. I was disgusted by them.

I always avoid having to purchase clothes, I could probably go 2 years with the same stuff. Though when my wife is searching for something, I always make a point to check clearance for myself in case there is something cheap but wearable. Just went to Old Navy last week, the wife didn't find jeans she needed for work, but i found 2 regular t-shirts for less than $4 each. Good for home, work, events as they are not labeled with brands and still look pretty nice in an office setting and seeing friends.
Love these tips. Don’t groan: I’ve cut tv out altogether. Not only am i saving money, there’s not anything I can’t get on my iPad. (I don’t need a computer, either). I’ve just researched A//C costs and it seems a window unit costs 1/8 the amount Of electricity to run than central air. My next goal!
My electric bill is cheaper with central AC than when I had window units. I keep the temp higher than most folks do, that's the key to saving on central AC.
Great video. I'll slightly disagree with you on delivery and/or pickup for groceries. Utilizing these services once a week, I end up saving a lot more than I did in grocery stores. Why? Because it removes impulse buys. It allows me to add or remove items on a list throughout the week until "grocery day." And most importantly, it allows me to meet a maximum amount in real time. If I go over said amount, I remove an item or two.
@@teresa4565 Pickup is free, yes. But I have an annual membership with one of the larger stores (starts with a W) which removes tips, all delivery fees, and prices are the same as in store. You cannot beat that. If you buy an annual membership, the cost is negligible monthly.
Oh.. and they'll also bring it in to your fridge if you like that kind of thing. I just have them leave it at my door. It's saved so much time and money.

The gym I go to have great teachers and a five minute walk. I go every day and sometimes take more two or more classes. I have lost 20 pounds and feel the strongest I’ve ever been - worth every penny to me! :)

“You save 100% if you do not buy it”, I love that. I think people need to essentially ask themselves just one question before buying something on sale. Would I buy this if it wasn’t on sale? If the answer is not a resounding YES, then you probably don’t need it. Or at-least, you don’t need it right away. This gives you leverage since you can wait around for better deals instead of making an impulsive purchase. Great video Austin!
DO NOT CLOSE YOUR AIR VENTS. I work in hvac and if you want to make your system inefficient that’s how you do it, you can also cause a freezing coil or overheat your furnace. Don’t Do It. If anything raise the temp to a cheaper level or lower it in winter. That’s how you save. You save absolutely nothing by shutting the system off when you leave the house for work btw. The time your system has to run to catch up will cost more than letting it cycle through the day not to mention the wear and tear on your system. I was all about this stuff till he went there. Hope it helps some people on here.
I sell my baking to ppl far less frugal than myself lol but I always have amazing sweet and savory things to eat for free plus it covers my regular groceries. So I eat for free because I sell most of what I make. This is on top of my regular job so I have alot more for savings

I DCA on petrol (gas) for my car. I never let the tank empty before I fill up. I just keep it full all the time. That way the amount I need to top up will not break the bank, and most importantly I can average out the price increases
That's so true about taking care of your health. Here in the UK our NHS dentistry is in a crisis and many are in agony because they can't afford private dentists. Avoiding sweet stuff would save so much pain and trouble.

I started as an accountant, so to learn quick how to manage money. I always had savings; I bought second hand cars and motorbikes. I bought older houses and did a lot on rebuilding’s myself, I had never has loans from banks. I do not want to work for greedy banks. So, had / have villas, a lot of cars and motorbikes. And NEVER money problems.😊😊😊😊 On school, they teach you a lot of BS, except how to learn manage money.

Great tips today, even if someone can’t follow all the tips just by taking that first step and implementing one or two will encourage them to keep moving forward toward financial freedom. I would say most important ones to start with get on a budget and track your spending, it just forces you to look at all the silly spending and it’s a real eye opener.
I’m a single mom with 4 kids. I work from home for more than 10 years and moved from city to the province. This move saved me gas money, clothes, shoes, most importantly time. I have a weekly budget and I buy clothes in thrift stores. I cook my own food. I was able to send my kids to college and buy my own home. Now I can afford air condition 😊 I live in a tropical country

you can cut cable and just use the old rabbit ear antenna on your tv and get about 40 channels, you dont even need one of those 40 dollar digital antennas that they try and sell you, rabbit ears are 8 bucks. youtube has free movies and tv shows and music. spotify and google home have music, costs nothing, car stereo, all free entertainment. got basic internet service, bought my own router and modem and have wifi through out my house that runs about 4 items at one time, but i am not an action gamer, that would require a faster speed, but everything else works great. alot of good advice here. one more thing, incorporate in season veggies with your menu and cook at your place, better food, more of it, much cheaper and you dont have to run out and get it or pay a lazy fee for someone to bring it to you.

Austin. An idea for a future movie is the virtues of the humble bicycle. It ties in to literally every one of the themes which you touch upon. Where I live (not USA), it's pretty common (but still not common enough!), in other places it's not. But you will improve your health, figure, wallet, outlook, mental state, local air quality and community by riding a bike. The only thing that gets worse are gas companies' profits. Best wishes. I know I'm late to the party but for anyone who watches this vid later on here are a few extra tips I use: 1. I Google discounts. You'd be surprised what you can get 10% off, especially if you're a student. 2. I ask for gift cards for birthdays and christmas. 3. Put it in the online cart and sit on it until it goes on sale. 9/10 the cart will be much smaller by the time you actually checkout. 4. Don't DIY stuff like skincare, haircare, craft things, etc. There is a reason Etsy stuff is so damn expensive. 5. Don't be brand loyal. Whoever offers the best price gets my money. That includes car insurance, phones, utilities, etc. Whenever a bill or a contract renewal is due, have a look around and see if you can get better.
I have a friend who is always trying to impress most of the people around him. He is in his early 50s with a higher position in the government, then I asked him "Why do you have to buy expensive cars, expensive stuff, many clothes, shoes, phones and trying to impress the people around you all the time?" and then he replied, "because I need them to see me as a respectful Boss. I am the mirror of the company and I don't want them to look me as a poor Boss who don't deserve a power or high position, because whether you like it or not, people are going to judge us by our physical appearance." and then I stopped and just let him do what he wants to do with his life. In my head, I was concerned about how his lifestyle is, how stressful it is to have that kind of mindset that you need to wear something expensive to be respected. Well in reality, nowadays, you will be respected if you deserve to be respected. If you have a garbage way of treating other people, it doesn't matter how expensive your possessions are. Treat them nicely, that doesn't mean you are fake, it just means you have good manners.

I'm in Tokyo, and I consider myself extremely fortunate in that I can save money. No need for a car since public transport (Trains) are so cheap, efficient (I can go from one end of Tokyo to the other for only $2). Just got my teeth professionally cleaned for $20, and do so four times a year (which is almost unheard of in the US). Rents here never go up. Nope. While rents in USA are increasing 20% to 50% a year, I am paying exactly what I paid back in 2005 when I first moved into my apartment (around $680). Had an MRI done four months ago, $80, I pay 30% State pays 70%). My cell phone is around $35/monthly. Compared to my friends back the US, I am able to save an absolute mint.
I do pretty much all of these things you mentioned. The only thing is I don't buy used clothed, but I never buy anything brand named. All kids clothes and shoes are brand new, but I got them on clearance, some shoes were even $1 (I buy off season, for example I shop in Jan-March for next winter). I have Tracfone (data is disabled), magicJack for long calls, got rid of the cable in 2015 and even streaming things like Netflix, free gym, pool. About owning your own Internet router, I've done that for many years (since 2013) with 3 different providers. Every single time they require you to have their router. The first provider did not sell their own router and I got it new from eBay, huge problems and time wasted to have them add it and be able to use it. With the other 2 providers, I purchased the router from them when starting the service, both times it was $200, so that money would be paid off in 13-14 months ($15 rent per month). So, now I have 3 different routers, lol, 2 not in use because the Internet companies flat out refuse to use anything that is not theirs (rented or bought from them). The big thing is having the bills fixed at the same amount each month. One of the reason for switching one Internet provider was because my bill went up unexpectedly from $50/month to $95/month "because they had to do upgrades to the 5G network", so the customers have to foot the bill. Now my Internet is fixed at $49/month, 30Mbps, and it is DSL. I grew up with really frugal minimalist parents (Europe) and learned from them a lot, the most important is not to throw money away for anything you don't need or use; so you save money and have money for: 1) emergencies; and 2) for times you want to spoil yourself or the kids. When you stop using something, stop paying for it. By the way I love how you have plants, they really add so much color and life. Keep up the good videos and thank you!
Love all the tips. Fortunately, we have efficient public transportation in Europe. Driving a car is not a must. Therefore, we don't need to buy a car and all the costs associated with it (insurance, gas, maintenance, etc etc etc). And we mostly walk or cycle to get from point A to B. I’m trying to look into remote jobs at the moment. I don’t want to commute and waste gas or be tempted to eat out anymore..currently doordash and do delivery apps but taking my time to find a remote job only.
Frugality is the best way for me to save money. Best things are always free. I just can't understand why most people think, and said for me and you, that we are being cheap this way. I enjoy life just as much as they do, without spend, spend and spend. I call these people consumers and us livers. We live when they consume. You talked about spa in your other video, and I realised even 4 time a year it adds up. I budget and do not work for a year now. Live on savings. I use cheap deals on food shops, there is 60 % off for going old food products and I freeze these deals. Spa I wanted to go even this month too, but instead I visited village and swimmed in a lake alone without any clothes on me. It was freeing and everyone else was working when no one else. I even stopped using buses that much, especially at summer, when I can just cycle myself for free to the food shop.

I’ve just researched A//C costs and it seems a window unit costs 1/8 the amount Of electricity to run than central air. My next goal!
My electric bill is cheaper with central AC than when I had window units. I keep the temp higher than most folks do, that's the key to saving on central AC.
Great video. I'll slightly disagree with you on delivery and/or pickup for groceries. Utilizing these services once a week, I end up saving a lot more than I did in grocery stores. Why? Because it removes impulse buys. It allows me to add or remove items on a list throughout the week until "grocery day." And most importantly, it allows me to meet a maximum amount in real time. If I go over said amount, I remove an item or two.
Oh, and it also removes gas cost if delivered.

@@teresa4565 Pickup is free, yes. But I have an annual membership with one of the larger stores (starts with a W) which removes tips, all delivery fees, and prices are the same as in store. You cannot beat that. If you buy an annual membership, the cost is negligible monthly.
Oh.. and they'll also bring it in to your fridge if you like that kind of thing. I just have them leave it at my door. It's saved so much time and money.

The gym I go to have great teachers and a five minute walk. I go every day and sometimes take more two or more classes. I have lost 20 pounds and feel the strongest I’ve ever been - worth every penny to me! :)

“You save 100% if you do not buy it”, I love that. I think people need to essentially ask themselves just one question before buying something on sale. Would I buy this if it wasn’t on sale? If the answer is not a resounding YES, then you probably don’t need it. Or at-least, you don’t need it right away. This gives you leverage since you can wait around for better deals instead of making an impulsive purchase. Great video Austin!

DO NOT CLOSE YOUR AIR VENTS. I work in hvac and if you want to make your system inefficient that’s how you do it, you can also cause a freezing coil or overheat your furnace. Don’t Do It. If anything raise the temp to a cheaper level or lower it in winter. That’s how you save. You save absolutely nothing by shutting the system off when you leave the house for work btw. The time your system has to run to catch up will cost more than letting it cycle through the day not to mention the wear and tear on your system. I was all about this stuff till he went there. Hope it helps some people on here.

Ps every time I bring my own flask of coffee to work instead of spending £3 ($3.60) once or twice a day on coffees I transfer the money saved to a savings account on the same day. Amazing how it adds up. Like you said good to treat ourselves from time to time though.
I DCA on petrol (gas) for my car. I never let the tank empty before I fill up. I just keep it full all the time. That way the amount I need to top up will not break the bank, and most importantly I can average out the price increases

That's so true about taking care of your health. Here in the UK our NHS dentistry is in a crisis and many are in agony because they can't afford private dentists. Avoiding sweet stuff would save so much pain and trouble.

I started as an accountant, so to learn quick how to manage money. I always had savings; I bought second hand cars and motorbikes. I bought older houses and did a lot on rebuilding’s myself, I had never has loans from banks. I do not want to work for greedy banks. So, had / have villas, a lot of cars and motorbikes. And NEVER money problems.😊😊😊😊 On school, they teach you a lot of BS, except how to learn manage money.
Hey Austin, I had no idea you grew up in Georgia. Hello 👋 from Tennessee. Great tips today, even if someone can’t follow all the tips just by taking that first step and implementing one or two will encourage them to keep moving forward toward financial freedom. I would say most important ones to start with get on a budget and track your spending, it just forces you to look at all the silly spending and it’s a real eye opener.

I’m a single mom with 4 kids. I work from home for more than 10 years and moved from city to the province. This move saved me gas money, clothes, shoes, most importantly time. I have a weekly budget and I buy clothes in thrift stores. I cook my own food. I was able to send my kids to college and buy my own home. Now I can afford air condition 😊 I live in a tropical country

you can cut cable and just use the old rabbit ear antenna on your tv and get about 40 channels, you dont even need one of those 40 dollar digital antennas that they try and sell you, rabbit ears are 8 bucks. youtube has free movies and tv shows and music. spotify and google home have music, costs nothing, car stereo, all free entertainment. got basic internet service, bought my own router and modem and have wifi through out my house that runs about 4 items at one time, but i am not an action gamer, that would require a faster speed, but everything else works great. alot of good advice here. one more thing, incorporate in season veggies with your menu and cook at your place, better food, more of it, much cheaper and you dont have to run out and get it or pay a lazy fee for someone to bring it to you.

Thanks for the useful tips. As an European I never understood the American's obsession with AC. Even in hotter climate countries such as Spain they don't cool down everything and if they do it's just done slightly; not super cold.
Come stay in Houston, Texas for one month during the summer then we can talk. Also, the globe literally just experienced one of its hottest months on record and it will only get worse. I think alot of people are going to be wishing they had AC in the future.

Great tips! I notice that people underestimate the value of a dollar. I use coupons, shop only sale items for groceries, shop out of season clothes, and clearance racks. I also live the same way I did when I made $40k/year. 😂

Austin. An idea for a future movie is the virtues of the humble bicycle. It ties in to literally every one of the themes which you touch upon. Where I live (not USA), it's pretty common (but still not common enough!), in other places it's not. But you will improve your health, figure, wallet, outlook, mental state, local air quality and community by riding a bike. The only thing that gets worse are gas companies' profits. Best wishes. I know I'm late to the party but for anyone who watches this vid later on here are a few extra tips I use:
1. I Google discounts. You'd be surprised what you can get 10% off, especially if you're a student.
2. I ask for gift cards for birthdays and christmas.
3. Put it in the online cart and sit on it until it goes on sale. 9/10 the cart will be much smaller by the time you actually checkout.
4. Don't DIY stuff like skincare, haircare, craft things, etc. There is a reason Etsy stuff is so damn expensive.
5. Don't be brand loyal. Whoever offers the best price gets my money. That includes car insurance, phones, utilities, etc. Whenever a bill or a contract renewal is due, have a look around and see if you can get better.
I have a friend who is always trying to impress most of the people around him. He is in his early 50s with a higher position in the government, then I asked him "Why do you have to buy expensive cars, expensive stuff, many clothes, shoes, phones and trying to impress the people around you all the time?" and then he replied, "because I need them to see me as a respectful Boss. I am the mirror of the company and I don't want them to look me as a poor Boss who don't deserve a power or high position, because whether you like it or not, people are going to judge us by our physical appearance." and then I stopped and just let him do what he wants to do with his life.
In my head, I was concerned about how his lifestyle is, how stressful it is to have that kind of mindset that you need to wear something expensive to be respected. Well in reality, nowadays, you will be respected if you deserve to be respected. If you have a garbage way of treating other people, it doesn't matter how expensive your possessions are. Treat them nicely, that doesn't mean you are fake, it just means you have good manners.
My bosses car is older than mine (mines 12). I respect her, she treats her staff well, that's what matters.

I so agree with your perspective, started watching your channel yesterday and I already subscribed because I really believe that persons can save more but are addicted to consumerism. This will definitely encourage me to save even more than I presently do. Thanks for this content.
I'm in Tokyo, and I consider myself extremely fortunate in that I can save money. No need for a car since public transport (Trains) are so cheap, efficient (I can go from one end of Tokyo to the other for only $2). Just got my teeth professionally cleaned for $20, and do so four times a year (which is almost unheard of in the US). Rents here never go up. Nope. While rents in USA are increasing 20% to 50% a year, I am paying exactly what I paid back in 2005 when I first moved into my apartment (around $680). Had an MRI done four months ago, $80, I pay 30% State pays 70%). My cell phone is around $35/monthly.
Compared to my friends back the US, I am able to save an absolute mint.

I do pretty much all of these things you mentioned. The only thing is I don't buy used clothed, but I never buy anything brand named. All kids clothes and shoes are brand new, but I got them on clearance, some shoes were even $1 (I buy off season, for example I shop in Jan-March for next winter). I have Tracfone (data is disabled), magicJack for long calls, got rid of the cable in 2015 and even streaming things like Netflix, free gym, pool. About owning your own Internet router, I've done that for many years (since 2013) with 3 different providers. Every single time they require you to have their router. The first provider did not sell their own router and I got it new from eBay, huge problems and time wasted to have them add it and be able to use it. With the other 2 providers, I purchased the router from them when starting the service, both times it was $200, so that money would be paid off in 13-14 months ($15 rent per month). So, now I have 3 different routers, lol, 2 not in use because the Internet companies flat out refuse to use anything that is not theirs (rented or bought from them). The big thing is having the bills fixed at the same amount each month. One of the reason for switching one Internet provider was because my bill went up unexpectedly from $50/month to $95/month "because they had to do upgrades to the 5G network", so the customers have to foot the bill. Now my Internet is fixed at $49/month, 30Mbps, and it is DSL. I grew up with really frugal minimalist parents (Europe) and learned from them a lot, the most important is not to throw money away for anything you don't need or use; so you save money and have money for: 1) emergencies; and 2) for times you want to spoil yourself or the kids. When you stop using something, stop paying for it. By the way I love how you have plants, they really add so much color and life. Keep up the good videos and thank you!

Love all the tips. Fortunately, we have efficient public transportation in Europe. Driving a car is not a must. Therefore, we don't need to buy a car and all the costs associated with it (insurance, gas, maintenance, etc etc etc). And we mostly walk or cycle to get from point A to B. Just to add you will save a lot if you have solar panels and if you grow your own food. Cheers❤❤❤

I’m trying to look into remote jobs at the moment. I don’t want to commute and waste gas or be tempted to eat out anymore..currently doordash and do delivery apps but taking my time to find a remote job only.
Frugality is the best way for me to save money. Best things are always free. I just can't understand why most people think, and said for me and you, that we are being cheap this way. I enjoy life just as much as they do, without spend, spend and spend. I call these people consumers and us livers. We live when they consume. You talked about spa in your other video, and I realised even 4 time a year it adds up. I budget and do not work for a year now. Live on savings. I use cheap deals on food shops, there is 60 % off for going old food products and I freeze these deals.
Spa I wanted to go even this month too, but instead I visited village and swimmed in a lake alone without any clothes on me. It was freeing and everyone else was working when no one else.
I even stopped using buses that much, especially at summer, when I can just cycle myself for free to the food shop.
