Great and glad it works. Ive now got a Roberts R881 sitting here ready to hack (time permitting) and will put a video up of how to do that one as well. Happy hunting!
Just subscribed and thank you for sharing how to hack this radio I just won one on ebay and can't wait to try this out and have a decent spirit box. Really good quality video could clearly see everything 👌
Thanks for your kind comments. Take your time as it’s a great radio to hack for a spirit box. Had some great responses last weekend when we did a session in an abandoned fort. Have fun.
Great job there. How did you know which wire was the mute function? For the units that don't have a ribbon or PIC of any, what would I be looking for? Can I use a mustimeter or something while scanning to determine which trace or component is causing the mute? Cheers
Thanks Tania. I got this tip from a forum post a while back and decided to make this video. However the rubber white button panel can be removed easily and the trace does go to the tuning buttons if I remember correctly. I think by running a multi meter to it you would be correct in determining which one is the correct one to cut. I would get one of these radios (while they are still cheap) and experiment with a multi meter before cutting to see how it behaves. Then you could apply that knowledge to other similar radios.
I haven’t tried hacking that radio, but looking at it I would say it should be much the same procedure. If one comes up cheap enough, I may buy one and try to mod it and will video the process.
I gave it a go following your instructions as I got the radio for 25 quid. Instructions are largely the same but you do need to cut the wire, so I cut the one at the end as you suggested - and I think it's worked!
@@davidwhite6875Hello I see from your comment you hacked the Roberts r881, I just wondered if it worked as I have one and would also like to hack it too, could you help me out with any information please
I actually hacked this same radio myself, pretty simple once you know how. I've also a video on how to hack the Roberts R9906 on my channel, if you're ever interested in buying one and hacking it yourself. It's really easy too.
Thanks for supporting the channel. It’s appreciated. I don’t sell them hacked, but that radio is still cheap enough to buy and as you can see in the video, very easy to hack yourself. Have fun.
Just done this today and works fantastic, thank you so much for a straight forward tutorial, already had some great responses, happy hunting!!👻👻

Hi i did this and it picks up radio one on fm and still scans 😅
Fantastically easy! You can still get these, but there's a few more Roberts R881 models knocking about. Is it the same procedure on those?
