2000 blitz players aren't bad...the same way 1900 rapid players are trash
How is that the same way? Also, the quality of chess that 1900 rapid players play at is MUCH higher than that of the 2000 blitz players, like it's not even close. Not to mention that many 2000s at blitz are 1900 at Rapid.

Having said that, I'm not so sure that he didn't throw that game because of how impressed he was with the gentleman's story and attitude with the life he was given. Maybe he wanted to give him a cool story to tell about how he beat GM HIKARU!! Not that he would ever admit it, he seems like the type that could do such a thing.
@@MichaelDavis-zf6nt Come on, it's pretty clear by his reaction that he genuinely just blundered. You can see him looking at chat just before the move, too. Your hypothesis fails the Occam's Razor test many times over.
I have seen Hikaru blunder many times and most of those or possibly every time he has ended up winning. He was beaten pretty handily in this case so seemed a bit weird since he knew he had mate in 2. What GM forgets they have mate in 2, especially a super GM.

Also, there was a game Hikaru played against a 1500 where Hikaru thought he had forced mate and so didn't really pay attention to the board, like in this game, and actually got himself in a position where his opponent had forced mate. It's a recurring pattern with Hikaru. He sees what he thinks is forced mate, gets overconfident and starts looking at chat instead of the board, and often makes a critical blunder.
