Great to hear your experience! I think that the US is probably one of the only countries in the world where professionals get paid more than once a month; most countries I've been in pay monthly. You've done excellently finding your feet and setting things up. I also really love the European holiday policies; in the Netherlands I get 6 weeks!! It is bizarre though, that your job doesn't pay for health insurance. Here it is obligatory that they do.
Getting paid once a month is kind of like the sunday everything is closed thing. Once you get used to it, it's actually not too bad. It helps developing your planing skills :) I suppose your job is a bit different since you work at a private school, so you seem to have more a working contract like everyone else does ( 4 or 5 weeks vacation paid). If you work for public schools, you will end up having vacations whenever the kids/students have, depending on the Kanton it'll be around 12-14weeks. Catholic kantons have more holidays too, eg in Einsiedeln, there's a massive Monastery with a highschool/college in it too, they get 8 weeks summer vacation, over the year its about 16weeks total, plus a ton of holidays that are unique to Einsiedeln. You should try to be an english teacher there ;) when i went to school there they didn't have a single english teacher that didnt have a massive accent. No wait, Mrs Kenworthy was fun, old english lady she would constantly mock me over my american pronounciation of words haha Anyway, you look absolutely stunning once again, love your positive aura and charisma
I teach also, in the States, and we only get paid once a month. It's good for learning to budget your money. So you guys don't get the Summer off, just 5 weeks?! Bummer!

Hi Leah! Great video! I decided to subscribe because of how open and honest you appear to be regarding the information provided in your vlogs. I am elated that things are going well for you in your new home country. Congrats on all the success at work thus far! Have you thought about getting your teaching credentials there in Switzerland to teach Elementary or Secondary grade levels? I have a good friend who was a preschool teacher and she likened the experience to being a "daycare worker" because she claims her job was to simply change diapers, watch the kids draw/color, and take them outdoors for play every 2 hours. In fact, I believe she said the lesson plans were built around the concept of play. This might have been about 4 or 5 years ago. She has since gone back and gotten her teaching license in Elementary Education, and now earns an income of almost tripple her preschool salary. I bet in Switzerland licensed teachers can get paid quite well in comparison to its U.S. counterparts. Keep up the great work! ❤
Girl, you are SO beautiful and I love hearing your view on Switzerland! I moved to this country at the age of 4 from Slovenia and am currently studying to become a high school teacher. Please let me know if you want to hang out one day ♥️
So interesting to hear those differences! I'm from Belgium and also studied to become a teacher :). Here it is kind of like a mixture of what you said about both Switzerland and the US! Great channel, by the way!
You're welcome :) ! I graduated from teacher training college about 5 years ago. I specifically studied to become a teacher in secondary school for English and Art. But I immediately noticed that it was pretty hard to find a job as a teacher here in Belgium. There is a huge supply of teachers but a low demand for the subjects I studied. It is almost impossible to find a full time job and most teachers I know teach in 2 or 3 schools just to get enough work. Logistically that is really hard because it takes up a lot of time to commute from school to school. So I stopped applying for teaching jobs and ended up in the corporate world. However, after a couple of years I got the opportunity to apply for a job as quality coach. So I pretty much do the same tasks as a teacher, but in a company: training colleagues, evaluate their results, I answer questions, give presentations. But in Belgium we had to do a lot of internships in different schools so I can talk a bit about my experience :). Here the school hours are mostly from 8.30 am to 3.30/4.00 pm so that is really nice! Sometimes there are some PTA meetings or other meetings and activities but that's not the case every week. It is good that teachers here can go home early. I remember I could get my preparations done by 6.00 or 7.00 pm and still make time for my hobbies. Here schools are not so organized just like you said. As an intern it was not that easy because sometimes I didn't know what I had to teach until the day before. It was hard when I had to prepare at the last minute. As for salary, teachers don't earn that much here. When you have been working at the same school for years and years, you will eventually earn more but it's a slow process. But we do get paid monthly instead of weekly in the US. But I think that is a European thing! We also have paid vacation! But teachers here in Belgium get even more vacation days! It is a huge benefit if you are a teacher and have a family! Next week it is 'Krokusvakantie' which is a week off, then 'Easter holidays' for two weeks, then summer vacation for 2 months, at then we still have 'herfstvakantie' for one week and 'Christmas vacation' for two weeks! Those are all paid vacation days when you work as a teach all year round. When you have been out of work for a short period, it will not be the same! It is so nice that you don't need permission to take the kids places. I feel like there are way more rules here. As for interns, we had to intern in all sorts of schools: general education, technical education, education for disabled kids,... Because they wanted us to have as much experience as possible. It is also good to have all this knowledge so you can choose what kind of school suits you. I hope this answers your question :). I think it is so interesting to talk about the differences in education worldwide! Have a nice Sunday, Leah :) !
Very informative video! I have a bachelors degree, a TEFL teaching certification, with dual EU citizenship and I am bilingual English/Italian. I just started job searching and finding jobs in Switzerland seem more difficult to find compared to other western European countries. Any job search websites would you recommend? Thank you!
Btw.. the insurence thing, we have a general healthcare system that combines public, subsidized private, and totally private healthcare systems. So... we all must have and have a healthcare system.
I beg to differ. My full time position in Switzerland is 40 hours/week, and that seems to be standard, at least in Ostschweiz. Also, in the USA, I was only paid biweekly when I was in the military or working for the federal gov't. Do you get paid a 13th month? P.S. the young people in the classroom with you are mostly liking doing so as part of a "Lehre" (apprenticeship).
This article from JustLanded states: "Normal ist eine Arbeitszeit in der Schweiz von 40 bis 44 Stunden pro Woche." www.justlanded.com/deutsch/Schweiz/Artikel/Jobs/Arbeitsbedingungen I actually do sometimes work more than 40 hrs, but contractually my official work time is 40 hrs. The article also mentions the 13th month: "Ein 13. Monatsgehalt ist weit verbreitet, wird aber nicht überall gezahlt, kann und sollte vertraglich festgehalten werden. Der 13. Monatslohn ist eine Sondervergütung und stellt keine Gratifikation dar." During my interview, I was told that I would be receiving a 13th salary; I also had this in Germany. A lot of times, the 13th month is referred to as Weihnachtsgeld (Christmas bonus) and you get it in November, although I receive half in the Summer and Half at the end of the year.
Lol. Many Europeans go hurray at the beggining of the month shopping and shopping. Then a week later. They're like 🙁 did I spend too much? Will I have enough till next month?
What school do you work at? I’m extremely interested in doing this as a job & I would love to know what school you work at :) I visited Switzerland a few times & ever since I’ve always wanted to work there as an English teacher!

Would you be able to offer any advice? (the search is not going well, plus we both only speak english at this point as we are both from the UK). Thanks so much xx
Pamela Carey I can make my own lesson plans following the EYFS curriculum from the UK. But it’s very flexible. I usually pick topics to concentrate on for a few weeks like we just finished nursery rhymes and fairy tales where we read a different one every week and built up vocabulary from that. Doing activities based on the books all week.

Thats not to bad. But I know what you mean some times it feels long. I work in a HS for students with disabilities as a Para from 7-2:30 then I work afterschool with 4th and 5th graders from 3-5:30
Where did you get the braids done and how much..thanks. Please put the camera on one place the moving too much was making me feel like i have smoked some weed lol
Can u please tell about housing rent and tefl is required? ?or not? And please u tell about the minimum salary of a english teacher in public school.??? Please tell me .??
Love your videos! Only thing I don’t get and this is something that every one that makes these pro/con videos says “oh you get paid so much more in Switzerland....” it’s not the entire truth. What people don’t mention is the reasoning behind it. It’s the most expensive country in the world!!! Prices are marked up the a$$ and people couldn’t afford to even exist if they didn’t pay them accordingly and second...taxes aren’t taken out of paychecks so it gives people the illusion that they have all this $$ at their disposal when in reality a portion of it should go to the government. So taken all that in account people don’t really earn that much more. Certain professions also earn more in the US than Switzerland.
I agree with your statement but I think regardless of what your salary is here in switzerland you will never have to struggle like the majority of american's do. From what I've seem the majority of people here live a high quality life.
I don't understand your deal with budget guys, It's not that difficult if you know you have fixed things to pay, you put that in reserve, and you calculate your basic spendings on the other hand and the rest is up to you... Monthly payings are the best way to calculate monthly spendings... Nice video.
Hey. I'm currently teaching in Korea and my contract ends in December. I'm curious as to which job sites did you apply through for your Switzerland position (or on general)? Thanks!
Nice video. Have you visited your relatives in Switzerland yet? I am also looking forward to you taking another field trip. Stay optimistic and have a nice week. :)

Have a nice Sunday, Leah :) !
wonderful and true words, I know because I was teacher in Switzerland too, stay as you are
What are the requirements for teachers in Switzerland?
Very informative video! I have a bachelors degree, a TEFL teaching certification, with dual EU citizenship and I am bilingual English/Italian. I just started job searching and finding jobs in Switzerland seem more difficult to find compared to other western European countries. Any job search websites would you recommend? Thank you!
Gosh! , teaching that age group can be so challenging per se. I like the fact that you're an independent young lady...
very challenging yet rewarding 😍
Btw.. the insurence thing, we have a general healthcare system that combines public, subsidized private, and totally private healthcare systems. So... we all must have and have a healthcare system.
Great videos as always, keep up the good content loving it!
Enjoy all of your vids. Your sincerity combined with your natural beauty in speech and all around is magnificient. Stay fresh.
Adora Inana thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
TraveLeah is it true that for us citizen only take 5 years to get Swiss citizenship????
I beg to differ. My full time position in Switzerland is 40 hours/week, and that seems to be standard, at least in Ostschweiz. Also, in the USA, I was only paid biweekly when I was in the military or working for the federal gov't.
Do you get paid a 13th month?
P.S. the young people in the classroom with you are mostly liking doing so as part of a "Lehre" (apprenticeship).
Swiss Lady Driver really! 😱😱 im wondering why I have to work 42. No I don’t get 13th salary which I heard was pretty typical here in Switzerland 🇨🇭
This article from JustLanded states: "Normal ist eine Arbeitszeit in der Schweiz von 40 bis 44 Stunden pro Woche." www.justlanded.com/deutsch/Schweiz/Artikel/Jobs/Arbeitsbedingungen
I actually do sometimes work more than 40 hrs, but contractually my official work time is 40 hrs.
The article also mentions the 13th month: "Ein 13. Monatsgehalt ist weit verbreitet, wird aber nicht überall gezahlt, kann und sollte vertraglich festgehalten werden. Der 13. Monatslohn ist eine Sondervergütung und stellt keine Gratifikation dar."
During my interview, I was told that I would be receiving a 13th salary; I also had this in Germany.
Very true
What school do you work at? I’m extremely interested in doing this as a job & I would love to know what school you work at :) I visited Switzerland a few times & ever since I’ve always wanted to work there as an English teacher!
HEY LEONTYCE...GIRL YOU KNOW IN THE USA TEACHERS D ONT GET PAID NOTHING!!!!..WHICH IS REALLY SAD...THE TEACHERS IN THE USA GO THROUGH WAAYYYY MORE STRESS THAN ANY OTHER TEACHERS IN OTHER COUNTRIES.IM GLAD EVERYTHING IS WORKING OUT FOR YOU!!NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE IT'S GONNA BE PROS AND CONS, YOU JUST GOT TO WEIGH BOTH AND SEE WHAT WORKS FOR YOU.
Wow! what a really cool job you have.
I’m glad you touched on it, but I wanted to ask with all the kids from different places and backgrounds is it difficult to adjust to the many cultural curtesy differences there must be?
LeeTheFuqqinGreat good question. Yes it is exhausting keeping up with all the cultures and what is acceptable and what isn’t. I just learn as I go.
Léontyne that’s interesting thanks for answering
It's good to hear that you're doing well.
Hi Leah, how is living in Switzerland for retirees? That is, with only retiree income, not working in Switzerland? Is it mostly cold? I am looking for a place to consider moving to that is cold (can't stand the heat) and quiet. Any information you can provide me will be greatly appreciate. Btw, you have a beautiful face. Thanks.

Hey I wanted to know what education certificate does one require to be a English teacher in Switzerland?
Your chance is the best if your from the european union. There are already a lot of english teachers here. If your from outside our awesome continent, it will be much harder.
I have master in English from Clemson university in the USA. Can I teach with this degree in Switzerland? I don’t have teaching certificate neither was I an English major.
Love the video. Is there a reason you left Switzerland?
Love from South Africa. I have a Bachelor of Commerce in Statistics and Economics,a Post graduate certificate in Education. Is there a chance I can work in Switzerland?
probably, the problem is the visa. getting a work visa is very difficult

Non European have a hard time. I have swiss citizenship
I am Karim from Morocco from Marrakech, I am 35 years old.I have a bus driver at Alsa.I have a driving certificate from a married company with two young children
Hey, Did you apply for a work permit to work here in Switzerland? If yes, how long was the processing time? xx
No i didn't sorry im no help. I have a swiss passport.
Why not use electronic pocket translators? Cost a little money up front, but save you an enormous amount of time overall.
I'm a new subscriber to your channel and so far I love your Swiss vlogs! My question to you is do the school give you vacation to visit your family in America?
Denien Green I can use some of my vacation time for that ( I get 5 weeks).
Hi, sorry for the random comment I've just found your video. I'm moving over to Switzerland next week (yay) but my boyfriend is looking for work as a teaching assistant at an international school. Would you be able to offer any advice? (the search is not going well, plus we both only speak english at this point as we are both from the UK). Thanks so much xx
Hey L I would love to see more of Switzerland
Hey can you work in Switzerland if you only speak English?
it is better if you learn a language well between Italian, French and German which are the most widely spoken languages in Switzerland
Yes you can
What program are you working for?
As always another great Video!
Hi , I wanted to know do you have to make up your own curriculum or did they have one for you to follow?
Pamela Carey I can make my own lesson plans following the EYFS curriculum from the UK. But it’s very flexible. I usually pick topics to concentrate on for a few weeks like we just finished nursery rhymes and fairy tales where we read a different one every week and built up vocabulary from that. Doing activities based on the books all week.
I'm currently Gr12 ABM Student here in the Philippines and I'm planning to be a teacher at Switzerland because I love to teach students and the salary of teacher at Switzerland is high. My question is, is it worth it to work as a teacher at Switzerland? I am struggling to decide to be an accountant here in the Philippines or be a teacher at Switzerland
So how much do you make ?
Such a great experience that you will take into all your future endeavor. Keep Going!!! 👍
Love your honesty 😌
Your videos really make me want to pack my son up and just move somewhere else.
Whats the taxes?
A bit late, but they average about 12% for median earners.
Graced Loved she braided them herself she does her own hair.
How about protection against dismissal? In US movies people get fired immediately. Is this the reality? In Switzerland it‘s very different!
Thank you.. this video is really helpful....
Appreciated 😊
Can u please tell about housing rent and tefl is required? ?or not?
And please u tell about the minimum salary of a english teacher in public school.???
Please tell me .??
Thank you for finding my channel! I love your videos therefore subscribed and let's stay connected.
Wow that is so cool 4weeks vacation
Do you every see yourself living in america again?
From what I've seem the majority of people here live a high quality life.
you're always gorgeous when you do a video
What other jobs do they have in Switzerland?
I am a licensed professional teacher and I love to work in Switzerland. What are the requirements for teacher?
I don't understand your deal with budget guys, It's not that difficult if you know you have fixed things to pay, you put that in reserve, and you calculate your basic spendings on the other hand and the rest is up to you... Monthly payings are the best way to calculate monthly spendings... Nice video.
I APOLOGIZE LEONTYNE..I SPELLED YOUR NAME WRONG IN THE PREVIOUS POST..MY BAD❤
What are your hours
Pamela Carey 8-4
Hey I'm just a Furniture salesman do you think I'd make a living there from u.s
From USA is hard but is possible
All starts from 4:50 ur welcome
Hello! 😊 what are the requirements to become a English teacher in Switzerland?
So what happened to change your mind about the school? It sounds like a good job with all the freedom.

Hey. I'm currently teaching in Korea and my contract ends in December. I'm curious as to which job sites did you apply through for your Switzerland position (or on general)? Thanks!
so you are a teacher, who knew >.
Ohhh no! But 90% of my kid's parents work in the pharma industry. Yes that's true. I'd work 50 hours a week to keep these 5 weeks of holiday!
paid holidays are the best ;D
I BET YOU'RE A GREAT TEACHER GOD BLESS LEAH !!!!
U CAN GET IT!!!!!!
What teaching agency do you work with?
I didn’t use one. I just looked at the schools websites to see if they had any openings and directly applied.
Very informative, and interesting. Great video!!
How can i apply for a teaching job there?
Nice video. Have you visited your relatives in Switzerland yet? I am also looking forward to you taking another field trip. Stay optimistic and have a nice week. :)
