If you do decide to put the mortar in between the discs. They do have color additives to change the color of the mortar. They even have stuff to make it glow in the dark blue or green.
The issue is the cookie ends will wick water through to the plywood anyway so he probably should seal it all anyway, so he could just as easily leave it at that point. I do think the pointing would look better though but I'm not sure how durable it will be since it isn't actually backed by wire.
Wow!! I absolutely love it!! You’re so talented Kevin!! It was cute to see you and Don toss the “cookies”. I think it looks just fine without the chinking. Reminds me of a gingerbread house. Your daughter is gonna love it I bet. Really nice job, and can’t wait to see the end result. Thanks again for my Saturday morning coffee show. God bless 💕
I'd go with a lime mortar at the front for between the cookies. It's white, it'll weather down to a very pale grey, that way it matches the rest of the cabin.
I enjoy watching you guys work tremendously. You make me laugh too. You break the monotony too. God bless you and keep you safe. Jean from Arizona 🌞🐍⛰🌻🌵🦂🌴🦎
I just can't stop watching this channel, I used to watch all these other building videos that had a bunch of cuts, so you know they were cheating, what I love is the building is mostly sped up so we can see exactly how everything is being done and no false claims are being made. Can't wait to see the next build. Would be very cool to see you build a build a dock and boat cabin for your little self made lake, I get it isn't necessary but Esthetically it would look very pleasing.
You may have built this one for us women; thank you ! I love this little cabin. String lots of lights. I can only imagine what it will look like during the first snow.
I think whichever way you decide to finish it off it will be awesome. It's your build so do it your way. Will enjoy watching just to see what you end up doing. Much love from So.Cal.💗
Hey Kevin! I’m a long time viewer, from the beginning! I also watch your brothers channel! Hey … pro tip! On those hinges that you get… if you boil those old hinges in hot water, all the old paint comes right off. I saw that on a salvage show I watched… got canceled. Make those hinges look like brand new! Love the builds and all the fun! Don is the man!!
This thing is turning out gorgeous. Not sure what the light pollution is like where it's at, but I bet the view at night, just getting to look up in the middle of winter at the clear night sky is going to be amazing EDIT: Also, thought of a name for your little impromptu game: Cookie Batter. Right, I'll see myself out
Was thinking cookie batter can be the mortar…. as well as the game😂 Love building things with stuff folks throw out. Awesome builds thank you for sharing.
At 14:40 I smiled, laughed, and literally said out loud "this is amazing". The things you make are amazing. I'm starting to build my own tiny home back in the forest here in Tennessee. You've inspired me to move in a new direction. I thank you. I include your brother and Don in this too
You and Don have got one heck of a swing there! I like the round window, and the cookies. The whole front of the house is looking great! It's all really coming together nicely!
Cool build plus wood sabre lessons with ObiDon Kenobi in the woods. Front looks good but I'd worry the "cookies" will drop off eventually once the weather gets in there. Personally I'd go for mortar but, whichever, looks good.
This turned out very nicely, I am impressed and still envious. As far as the pointing is concerned; adding the pointing may give it a secure and finished look, however, you may have to deal with cracks in the future. If you left the pointing off, would you seal the wall or put some kind of finish on? This is my favorite of all of your builds to date. Bravo
Pigs got big! I figure the door should last for quite awhile. Corner braces would extend the life if it starts to sag. Turned out really nicely. With enough of the canopy gone, winter heating should be relatively light duty. Night time, probably just the opposite, but should be a really nice get away. Sleeping under the stars without getting rained on. Oh, and on the front finishing, either way you have to seal it. And yu don't want standing water at the bottom. So a cant strip would fix that if you don't fill the voids with material.
Don has a beautiful swing oh my God I bet he played softball or baseball what he was younger. And I love the way you are building that your cookies on the wall looks great!
I said I loved this build best of all I have watched... but now I love it even more!!! I admire so much your builds because I was raised to repurpose/reuse. It is amazing, as you say. When I used power tools I always wanted a plunge router, but could never justify getting one and all the bits that I loved... fun to watch. I love it, but since you asked I would like the rounds chinked/pointed. Just to make it look more substantial, not just decorative. But its not my house and Im sure you will choose the best method. Thank you.
I think you should do some sort of chinking, even if it's just a light layer. It'll help protect the ply and make it last longer. This project has turned out awesome! I can't wait to see what you do inside.
Is it bad when I recognized those door hinges before Kevin said where they were from? From the house you got the oil tank from that you rebuilt for the sugar shack? Very happy to have this video waiting for me this morning! Thanks for all you do Kevin!
I noticed that too, right off the bat. But those oil tanks became raised garden beds. The sugar shack was a different oil tank. So I think it's a safe bet to say we're both Modern Self Reliance nerds. Haha.
I like POINTING to keep the weather from getting behind the cookies. Can you use a substance that can be colored to stay a light grey or whatever? BTW: DON has amazing eye-hand coordination!😮😮
I'd do the mortar, that will keep the voids from getting moisture and other things in them. You should be able to find a color that you're happy with. Looking really good.
I would go with the mortar, but just not all the way to the rim of the “cookies”. I think if you would do a shallow mortar it would still give you the texture that you (I think) are looking for. Plus it would have a nice look once weathered.
Looks nice the way it is but I think of you did a light color mortar between it would look good, all ii kept thinking when you were hitting the wood cookies, I call them pucks, was poor Chris out their trying to catch a squirrel and having them rain down all around him haha, great video, be safe and have fun
Love those "cookies" can't wait to see what you do next!!! Would you consider planting a natural garden of some sort that would benefit from the rainwater run-off? It would be something nice to look at through all that glass
Could you put a clear epoxy type thing inbetween the cookies? That would be cool - no idea if such a thing exists, but if it did it would look great to enhance the cookies making them glossy and shiny but yet still impregnable BUT whatever you decide I'm sure will be great 👍
Colored broken glass mosaic inside the circles would look super cool with the sun shining on it, give it a church stained glass look. Really loving the look of this build thus far, totally beautiful!
Love watching you build. I started following you when you built the main cabin and have enjoyed every video since. Love that you have a trustworthy friend in Don and enjoy when Chris has a cameo. Keep up the good work eh.
The wood cookies are FABULOUS!!! but my vote is yes, please finish the look w/cement in between... It's an absolute charming build! A grand Art Studio 100%!!!!
I just love how everyone thinks they can do better and stick their neb in. Kevin and Don have done a fantastic job so people just appreciate what they have done instead of thinking you can make it better!! If you can, then do so and post it!! Love from West Yorkshire in England 🙂
Another great episode. I think it looks great as it is but… I do like the the look of a well done pointing job. You did ok hitting those cookies but Don is ready to go pro. Maybe you can add that to the Olympics, right next to curling. I can’t wait until you move on to finishing the inside. Really want to see an outside pic of it lite up with it snowing. The headroom looks really great as well. Thanks so much for sharing! P.s. it needs some stairs.
I like it. Those biscuits look cool in the front. You two are good biscuit hitters. Wouldn't want to get one of those in the forehead. Thanks for sharing Iowa is watching 28degs, this morning :)
LOVE this build! I suggest pointing with grey mortar to match the aluminum window frame color then spray / brush a good clear sealant over all the cookies and lower wood siding to preserve it and slow down any rot.
“Here’s Don.” ❤️ Where was BEAN? I vote for using a nice light sky blue tinted stucco! You’re just the guy to pull it off, Kevin! Can’t get enough of your projects.🏆
I like the idea of mortar for protecting the cookies from dampness. It does look very good without the mortar, though. It's so pretty! I love it. I'm following along with this build as I do all the others. I always look forward to your finished projects. Thank you for sharing your clever ideas.
Absolutely ingenious build. The attention to detail is exceptional. I think I would put porter around the cookies if only to waterproof the front of the building. Don has some serious hand eye coordination, he was nailing those cookies, considering how he was being jammed on most of the pitches. Looking forward to seeing the complete build Kevin.
Congrats on over 200K subscribers! I had my doubts on this building at first, but your innovations know no bounds. All of those finishing touches add up to a quality build. Do what you want for the front.
Yes! Do the mortar around the cookies 🍪! It will improve the look and durability of the structure and help prevent rotting and bug 🐛 🐜 problems. Looks great so far! You are immensely talented and very gifted with that bucket 🪣 of patience! 🤣😀
It's coming together nicely. You have a good eye for taste and creativity. I think the knee wall was a great decision. Looking forward to part 4, bringing it all together for finally touching adding the wood stove and furnishings! Can't wait to see what design of decking you add on! Totally amazing, Don is! 💯
What you call chinking around the cookies, I was calling grout. 😆 My thinking on this, if you want the cookies to go grey, you would have to be so careful to not get any chinking(grout) on the cookies! What a pain that would be. However, that is plywood behind the cookies, which should be protected somehow. I think protecting the plywood is necessary, no matter what method you use.
I would do a colored mortar in a light tan or maybe something close to the color of your plywood. It would help with the water proofing. It's looking great.
I’m very impressed how good this looks. I also love how you incorporate recycled items and how with every project your final product looks better and better. Hands down your best build so far.
Kevin this turned out Awesome!! You know one of the things I love about how you structure your channel is progress and completion. So many TH-cam channels make a whole video of putting in A window in or they will complete something really small and insignificant and the rest of the video is filler. Not you my friend, its progress and completion the whole way through. Minus the batting practice lol. Also I think the glass panels add a sort of industrial look to the building and using the mortar on the front will tie it in perfectly. Great work!!!

The idea is great 👍 your recycling the materials is exactly what our world needs and an award 🥇 is for your help today
Ridge cap is 😎
If you do decide to put the mortar in between the discs. They do have color additives to change the color of the mortar. They even have stuff to make it glow in the dark blue or green.
Point it with black dyed mortar (mortar dye is pretty cheap)... Paint the door frame, window and roof frames black. Would be epic ...
I thought you doing a Keeps ad was... a bit hilarious. 😂
Don's the friend that every one needs and everyone should try to be.
Yes, a dad and a friend !!
Exactly !! they do have a very strong friendship hope it last forever!! Hi Don 😊
100% badass.
Amen!
I am new here...Don is a friend and/or his Dad?
Use a really light color of chinking. It'll brighten it up and seal everything so it doesn't allow any rotting
The issue is the cookie ends will wick water through to the plywood anyway so he probably should seal it all anyway, so he could just as easily leave it at that point. I do think the pointing would look better though but I'm not sure how durable it will be since it isn't actually backed by wire.
I was going to write the exact same thing
Definitely seal it to prevent wicking
@@marcellogenovese199 he did use waterproof construction adhesive to apply the cookies
yeah I dont understand the concern over the color given that you can color it to how ever you would like.
i love everything this guy posts
If you want dramatic you could point it black to match circular window frame - beautiful contrast to the light ash below
Your collection of Don's is really cool.
But have to admit not all Don's are created equal.
Copilot Don and Dad Don are absolute favorites !
I agree lol, how may Don's are there haha.

Can’t wait for pt. 4!

Mortar, definitely for weather resistance. We always called those "biscuits" when making them.
Same.
Both make me hungry...
I looks really nice. I would consider pointing. I can see your cookies coming apart with weather. Thanks for sharing.
Or even the glue he used to set the cookies failing at some point.
I might be wrong but I think he said he was using a piping bag, looks great though.
Never mind I got to the bit where he was debating
Wow!! I absolutely love it!! You’re so talented Kevin!! It was cute to see you and Don toss the “cookies”. I think it looks just fine without the chinking. Reminds me of a gingerbread house. Definitely agree with the mortar, I’m sure you want to make sure your hard work lasts as long as possible!
Love the Kevin and Don show
You and Don have got game! The original “Air hockey!” Great job, ithe glass house is looking great. The front has a gingerbread style. 👏🏼👏🏼
Kev, I would go for the mortar. I mean you could have made a test piece with all the cookies that are now scattered in the woods, but… 😂
Still can do a separate test piece to see how it’ll look. Try different colors of filler. Let it dry and compare
He wasn't doing it for looks in the first place - it was for function.
What about that?
@@alicecain4851 what’s wrong with Both?
Should go for a dark cement maybe even black.
In winter with red white and green Christmas lights ans snow on the eves, it’ll look like a gingerbread house! Great job!

Love the build, maybe a white stucco around the log cookies, it will give it a European alpine type style.
I really like this idea. Mike from Maine.
White stucco, now that would be a sight.
Yeess!!
Great idea.
