Hey everyone, we're seeing a lot of comments about Maleficent's recast. Ale Martinez who has played Maleficent for the last 6 years has just had the privilege of welcoming her first child into the world! As our patrons know all too well, these episodes are shot over the course of several months, and as a result Ale was unable to commit to the scope of "Ancient Relics" part 1 and 2. We couldn't be happier for Ale and her beautiful new family and wish her light, love, and happiness in this exciting new chapter in her life. Rest assured we plan to work with her on many projects in the future!
Well congrats to her and her beautiful baby. Or shall I say, congrats to the Mistress of Evil and her little hellspawn?
regardless of who's playing maleficent, I'm sure she will no doubt give the Mistress Of All Evil the performance she deserves.

Okay, since no one's talking about it, I'll talk about it. I love how you characterized Gaston in this episode. Usually, he is so self-centered that people forget how intelligent he is. He is the one who scolds Hans for his stupidity, and he is always the one who notices that the forest is strange because there are no noises. And it makes perfect sense, given that he's a hunter. You totally got his character!
I thought that as well! It's interesting to see how him and Hans snapping at each other, after the time in the tavern id have thought they'd be friends. 😅
Yeah I thought that too. He was a great hunter remember so it would make sense
He usually gets treated as a stupid brute, but in the movie he's surprisingly good at scheming and planning

The thing about Gaston is that in the beginning of the film, he's amusing, we laugh at his stupidity, but once Maurice gets captured by the beast and pleads for his help at the tavern, we see that he's actually dangerously clever. He's the one who tries to blackmail Belle into marrying him by sending Maurice into an insane asylum. He's the one who gets the villagers to form a mob to set off to kill the beast. He's the only one who manages not to get attacked by any of the enchanted objects and almost successfully kills the beast. The goofy side drops out the window once the second half of the film starts--except for when he pleads for his life--that's pretty damn funny.
I can't help but laugh at how Cruella just stays behind in a pop-up spa. That's very in character.
She is so me and that's why she is my fav in these series 😂❤

The actor who plays Smee is just 100% perfect for the job! He has the same big cartoony smile, and even when he's not speaking he does a perfect job at the facial expressions and body language.
Gods, I just can't get over the fact that this series gets these characters better than disney does any time they reintroduce these characters

He should've been in the last episode supporting Captain Hook in his musical. I'm surprised he wasn't in it.
This is perfect setup. Maleficent has an item for dealing with shadows, I'm guessing she's likely the ONLY one who's taken pains to see ahead to who might most want to interfere. Now it's essentially Maleficent's significant magical talent against the shadowman himself and Ursula if she decides to try something and frankly my money is on Maleficent. These talismans are the first I'm hearing about and make for an excellent twist. One thing I love is it's been made clear Ursula too has limits to what she can and can't do.
Yeah, she’s taking counter measures against her enemies. She clearly knows what kind of magic they use and took preparations to counter whatever magic shadow man might use her and she probably knows Ursula can’t use her full strength outside of the ocean if Ursula could destroy them all she would’ve already done so
Okay, but Smee putting up an extra finger for Hook because he doesn't have any on that hand to represent two was hilarious. Also, kind of wholesome how he thanked him. Of course, being Hook, he later threatens Smee for leaving the map on the ship.
Dr Facilier’s desperation with making a deal was a plot twist I didn’t see coming
Agreed and it is a JOY for me to see. It’s fun seeing someone always with high confidence/arrogant got scared
Clearly, he saw an opportunity. He knew if Ursula got the Sundial she would be able to control everything she would become stronger than all the villains put together, it took all of them combined last time to steal her away
If you watch the masterpiece 2009 princess and the frog you’ll find out that Dr facilier already owes a lot of debt to his friends on the other side and when his blood talisman gets shattered to pieces by Tiana he tries to get the loa to agree giving him 1 more chance but they refuse and when one of the shadows grabs Facilier and his shadow it drags them both into the mouth aka the portal to the other side while Facilier tries to get the shadows to allow him to promise them that he’ll pay them all back but he fails then he and his shadow get pulled down into the realm of shadows, voodoo dolls, and shrunken heads while giving the most terrifying scream in Disney history especially if you watch his death scene in either fast, regular or very slow volume speed.
Somehow I knew Hans and Gaston would be at each others throats as soon as I heard Hans was joining the show.
I'm 100% convinced you guys just grabbed the characters straight from their movies. The actors and actresses are literally them😆 it's so good

Maybe that’s why they are working together they’re both similar because they trick people into making deals with them to get what they want

i mean it would be less a few rounds and more hans getting absolutely destroyed hans has no fighting experience and is built like a twig gaston is a hunter by trade despite not being booksmart he is highly skilled in hunting thus he's skilled with crossbows and dagger combat and probably axe as well and is the size of a house

I love being a patron and have immensely enjoyed the early release of this gem. Everyone is in for a treat.
THEORY: With the recap highlighting the Queen questioning if Maleficent has any other motives going on the journey, and Jafar saying he's always had a hard time trusting fairies, WHAT IF assuming they find the cauldron, they bring back Hades, but in the process, they either unintentionally (or Maleficent does it purposely), bring back the Horned King too? Maybe he and Maleficent are related (hence the horns?) though I don't know if that's canon or not. And then he could pose an even bigger threat?
Maleficent's horns are apart of her cowl, wth are you talking about?😅

@@Mother_is_Mothering306not proud of knowing this, cuz it implies I saw the la movies, but even there the horns were attached. Aurora tried covering them with a vail when they met the in-laws. Pretty sure she would have preferred Maleficent leave them home if it was an option 😅

It's nice to see Gaston being more useful. He is a soldier and an expert hunter so he's not with skills 🙂
Alrighty, so the Shadow Man has been working with Ursula for awhile if he was helping her after getting brought back from the spirit realm
And the powers held by them both are certainly fascinating, especially since it sounds like Ursula wants to become a literal Goddess
Plus, seeing Maleficent using her Magic is a delight considering her powers are very under used :)
Gonna miss Ale as Maleficent, but so far Cassandra's got the look and voice down! Can't wait to hear her sing.

@@fizzyphy9901 They explained it in the pinned comment, but she just had a baby and couldn't commit to the filming schedule of this and the second part. I don't know if it's a permanent recast, but they said they'll still be working with her in the future.
Oh my goodness finally. I’m probably not going to watch live I don’t really enjoy watching livestreams anymore because if you miss a bit you can’t really go too far back because it’s live but I love this series so I’ll definitely watch.
I just watched it was good but can’t lie feels rushed it could have done with being 15-25 minutes long episodes.
Keep uploading, the more they get interesting and the more villains we want to see.

If any of you were wondering what Facilier meant when he said “With only one foot in this world” he means that his shadow is the second half of who the shadow man is so by that sentence he’s stating that his shadow is still trapped in the other side so if Ursula also frees his shadow from the other side then Facilier will be fully freed and If the shadow is freed in the next episode they should give him a voice.

Wow, this was definitely worth the wait! I love the fact that Dr Facilier wants to make a deal with Ursula when he's all about making deals with his victims. I also like seeing the interaction between Hook and Smee. I have a theory about Dr Facilier's "friends"on the other side-I think he uses a false image of Elsa to trick Hans who hands him over to Ursula for further manipulation. I can't wait to see part 2!

My guess is either for whatever reason she ended up staying behind (perhaps the spa on the ship didn't meet her standards 😅) or maybe when Vanessa sets fire to the ship she takes Cruella under her wing? Notice that smirk Cruella gives when Facilier brings Vanessa back in S1E4?

this was really good seems another deal has been made, the plot keeps thickening. old friends you say, this will be interesting. though hans saying questions were hard for gaston that was funny. the scene with smee and hook it reminded me of the movie perfectly. looking forward to part two.

I still think that when they use the black cauldron to bring back Hades, they will also bring back the horned king to, by mistake of course but I think it would be awesome.

Well... I don't know where to start, I'll do my best:
1. Hope that Facilier and Ursula's alliance would be revealed with more detail
2. I'm surprised of Gaston's hunting sense to detect any movement or sound
3. Seems like Cruella was prepared for a holiday
4. I just hope that in the villains' attempt to bring Hades back they don't end bringing the Horned King back as well and he ends having different plans against the Queen and/or Facilier's purpose
In short, this episode is making the story getting more exciting
I hope the princesses would work together and defeat the villains once and all in the end

Talismans? That broke into ten pieces? That belonged to the sun dial? N r what r giving the villains their powers? First I’ve heard. Though it explains why Facilier said all the villains had something necessary for the sun dial. Though it begs the question, what r these talismans? How r they giving them power? Does it have something to do with them being back from the dead? I know Maleficent n Gaston died but Cruella, Hans n Hook didn’t. Didn’t they? Has it been that long since their stories ended?

So if I'm following correctly, Ursula wants the Sundial to go back in time and use the original, unbroken Talisman? And Facilier convinced her that:
1. The villains will likely lose their talisman pieces in the woods
2. They're gonna resurrect Hades if they succeed and secure control of the Sundial beforehand
And therefore, Ursula will let Facilier take care of Maleficent's group and in return she will free him from the Other Side?
Then ofc Maleficent likely has her own use of the Black Cauldron, not to mention there's no guarantee Hades (if he comes back) will even go along with the Sundial plan anyway. Also, where even is the Sundial presently?
If I remember correctly, Ursula has the sundial. She managed to get it from the Princess Academy before Queen Grimhilde could. It's in her neck of the woods, under the sea. A direct descendent of a god is needed to operate the sundial, so she offered a deal with them, she's a descendant of a god, she can operate it. Yet, the villains are also needed because apparently, there are 10 talismans among them, pieces of a relic needed also to operate the sundial.
@@glowworm2 so, she needs all 10 talisman pieces to operate the Sundial so that she go back in time and use the original unbroken Talisman? I mean I guess it makes sense, maybe all 10 pieces together isn't as strong as the unbroken talisman. Gotta say though, she was kinda dumb being so dismissive of Facilier at first. Was she planning to gather all the talisman pieces by herself too, before she took up his deal?

We'll probably get it in the next part, and the patreon peeps will already know, but I'm now wondering how Gothel ends up in the cursed woods with the other villains. I'd like to think she was hidden in one of Cruella's suitcases lmao, maybe she just couldn't part with her favourite gossip-gal while the others actually tried to salvage their last chance at revenge. 😂
An unremarked little touch I appreciate is that Facilier conveys how scared he actually is. In the movie, he's terrified of his patrons and with good reason. Now that he's freed, he's got that "never going back to prison," mentality. So terrified of the Other Side coming to claim him again that he now bargains for nothing short of godhood to escape it. But he's pointedly not seeking it for domination or vengeance, but for self-preservation.
I knew Ursula wouldn't be trusted she wanted the sundial and time for her self.
