@ThatOne agreed. I’m not a distance runner, I do 3-ish mile races so mostly 5ks. When I run long distance my greatest failure is coming out too fast and gassing later on. Pacing is quite the struggle when you double or triple distance or cut it in half
Dude I consider myself a decent runner and am not even close to these guys or girls times. They’re built different, partly because they are doing and have been doing it for sport and competitively but they are for sure made for this sport. It’s actually beautiful to watch
Agreed. It would appear they are taking no more than 30-35 seconds on the 100m recovery, so work:rest of 2:1. Rory’s personal best for 10,000m is 28:12, which is 67.5 ish / 400m. So yes, this was a monster.
Right out of "Once a Runner" (one-third anyway)...Great Stuff. I tried a variant of this a few times as a clunky distance guy with only a 31min PR at 10K. 6 sets of 4-400s (easier to keep count); starting with 75s with each set working down for the last set being mid-60's. Did it solo (none of my training buddies wanted to do it). In the dark at the local HS track. Over 30 years ago. Only did it a few times but always felt like a major accomplishment.
Last rep, 60 seconds flat..of 20 laps, just unreal...and here’s something to think about, Joshua cheptogi ran 12 straight 60 second laps for the world record 5K...these guys are super human...
Wow! This guys are super fit, fast and has speed endurance. Repeating 20x is incredible. They can easily race a good 1500m to 10k. Can you share some of their race timings. Thks.
Well yeah you’re a high schooler, you’re probably not gonna be doing workouts with this type of volume. Besides, it’s at 10k pace. A workout like 8x400 @mile pace is just as hard if not HARDER than this workout. It’s all relative. I’m in HS and I’ve done 20x400 at a much harder effort than these guys are doing it at lol. The purpose for their workout is just different
@@rhinosdomain75 the purpose for me was to dial into 2 mile-mile pace, just like these guys are “simply” dialing into 10k pace. Ofc I had a longer rest between each rep, but still.
and I was here struggling thinking about the 4x400m workout I was going to do

Old comment I know but I’d rather run 20 400s at 10k pace than 4 400s at 800m pace lol. It’s all about context
I've done this workout before but with 15 400s and it takes every single ounce if energy out of you. These are true beasts out here!
If these times are accurate (not saying they are not) then this is a serious and brutal workout.

keep in mind this is at about 4,500 ft too!

would like to know how fast the 100m jog was and also the 400m jog
That would be 5 laps just walking 100's. Plus the 20x400m. Gotta love run.

Rory, great to see you running. I think the last time was from BYU days. Good luck making the team !
What's the average time of each 400m? Recovery time ?
After #9 they showed the whole 100 meter jog and they did it in about 32 seconds...so much for one minute recovery...

Bottom left corner at the end of each lap shows the time. The target was 66 per lap
These dudes working out faster than I can run 1 mile.
bro jeez
as a high schooler doing much more simple workouts, I'm shocked.
And I thought my 8x400 workout was hard 😅
@@zacharyscala7453 ikr xD what events do you run n what times? im curious :)
