I loved this series when I saw it on Bridges TV however many years ago. The 3 provinces that made up the heart of the Ottoman province of Rumelia : Albania, Greece, & Macedonia. Fantastic!
Great stuff, James. Enjoyed the documentary series very much. It was rewarding to see the places he visited in their geographical context. I love his paintings and drawings, especially of Greece. Thanks very much.
Lear was certainly one of a kind not to be repeated. His many tremendously developed talents overwhelm us more than ever today. A lot of what I have read finds him walking day after day through difficult terrain (I could have been forever lost repeatedly in trying that). HIs health was poor and all of his self-images show him as rotund. How is that possible? Remarkably he also had a great sense of humour and broad personality - something seemingly rare then and moreso today. A great hero - especially as a naturist and painter. He would cry to see the state of nature as it survives now.
I would like to ask the owner of this TH-cam account to compliment the creators of this content. It's perfectly splendid to watch and very well directed. I hope to thank you for sharing it, if you have the correct permission to do so.
Thank you James we made this in 2008 it was two years in the making and a labour of love but as much of an adventure as Lear's. It was screened on Sky Arts for four years and then on the shelf. I decided to give it an airing on TH-cam. The superb photography of Chris Sutcliffe really makes it shine out
@@gascoyneone I am very grateful. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I am quite delighted that not only has it come to my attention many years later, but that I can compliment one of its creators directly. Perfectly splendid. Thank you for responding.
Wow : this is the 1st time I noticed this: what appears to be the Croatian consulate in Bitola is right by the statue of Tito - himself a (half)Croat. Coincidence? Probably not.
2023 : 15 years later, FYRONM is still not in the EU. After all that ass kissing 💋 & compromises made to 🇬🇷 & her modern-day Philhellenes, 🇲🇰 is still not in the EU. Y'all miss Yugoslavia yet?

@@jamesoliverdunn Thank you James, you may have seen the other 2 episodes which are on my channel
@@gascoyneone Looking forward to the time I can enjoy those too. And I am quite sure I shall. All my very best.
"The old Turkish region of Macedonia". Macedonia never ceased to be Turkish as far as I'm concerned.
