    To those asking: An Office Car Special is a special train that executives use to travel around the system for business activities such as meetings or impressing customers. It is not a public passenger train. CSX does not offer passenger service.

    • @ervinthompson6598
      @ervinthompson6598 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      True, technically not a passenger train, except in appearance- and those aboard, despite their official capacities, titles, or designations, ARE train passengers, and subject to be in jured in a derailment!! The general public, not knowing any better, only sees a passenger train ; sorry for my misnomer !!

      @@mrz80 I lived in the house on the hill in front of the Linden Lane bridge for years, right next to the B&O, "Surrender Dorothy" bridge over 495. I believe the Capitol Dome logos are still on the upper part of the center abutment, but covered up with those metal CSX signs. Maybe someone should pull the CSX signs down. Nah, then they would paint over it. I still live 1 minute from the bridge/castle/old Forest Glen station stop.

    I was a cop in a small Georgia town with about 8 grade crossings, And I would always write tickets to the IDIOTS I saw driving around the downed crossing gates, Many people complained to the chief about my actions, until an incident happened one day when 2 teen girls were killed by a freight train passing through town, weeks later the Mayor & Council gave me and award for safety, commenting on the many lives saved by enforcing traffic laws at grade crossings, Dumbest thing I ever earned !!!!!!

      That’s one thing I don’t miss in law enforcement, public officials that looks for a reason to fire a officer for doing his job until a accident occurs with loss of life. A accident occurs and has the public’s attention, city officials turn to you because they’re using you as their knight in shining armor to make them look good. I don’t miss that job at all.

      You're a good LEO. When I was in the Army, in one of the many times I had to attend suicide prevention training, the instructor tried to innovate.. He brought out pictures of people who had attempted suicide and failed. Horrible horrible injuries. He even had some interviews with people who failed.. One always stuck out in my mind where a woman decided to douse herself in gasoline in her car and then set herself on fire. Well.. she changed her mind about 10 seconds into it.. she went to grab the door handle and when she grabed it all the skin on her hands melted to it.. when she pulled away her fingers stayed attached to the handle.. someone came up and smashed the window out and pulled her out. As a veteran who has seen real combat and real battlefield horror and the associated depression, the thought has occasionally bubbled up in the back of my mind.. but then i always think about that poor lady and it shocks me out of it. I some times think this is some of the best training i ever got.. I some times think teens should be forced to watch videos of things like train crashes to let them see EXACTLY how it will go down if it happens to them. There is no arguing with multiple tons of steel on a determined course. One of the hard things with alcohol is that it inhibits the risk/reward evaluation in decision making.. the goal should be to teach people not to even make the evaluation and realize that the cost of losing always exceeds the thrill of success... running from the cops is a perfect example of the stupidity of which i refer.
      Oh.. as a side note.. the Sergeant First Class who gave us that class was reprimanded for causing emotional discomfort.. That was the day I decided the army wasn't for me.

      @Andrew Wetzel if you are serious about becoming a railroader, look into the smaller Class 3 railroads. These take freight from the big class 1 railroads and bring them to the end customer. Think about your skills and what type of work you can do on the railroad with minimal or no training. The good thing about Class 3 railroads is everyone wears multiple hats. You might start off doing track maintenance or rail car repair and over time get trained as a conductor and eventually as an engineer if that’s your goal.
      The larger railroads generally want people with railroad experience to start. Or, they want you to relocate.
      I became a railroader by approaching a Class 3 and offering to work for free for one month. I got the job, started in locomotive maintenance and worked my way up to engineer. Good luck!

    I hope the driver of that truck learned an important lesson. The train has the right of way at the crossing and they don't stop on a dime when the engineer sees a vehicle trying to unsafely cross in front of the train! Glad the truck driver survived.

    They should make the driver pay for not only the damage to the train but also all cost involved due to the delays caused, it should not be the insurance company that pays! If people thought their stupidity could cost them their home, car, and their life savings maybe they would think twice.

    • @ourfarmhouseinspain

      Trust me, it won't be the insurance company that pays. The vehicle was not being driven in accordance with their conditions which require railroad crossing signals to be obeyed, thus the cover is null and void and any claim will be refused. The driver is going to spend a lot of time in court, and then poor street.

    Looks like both CSX2 and CSX3 locomotives were damaged but only CSX2 was set off. I'll never understand American motorist mindsets. They drive around active crossing gates, blow through stop signs as if they're not even there, and run red traffic lights. If railroad grade crossings can't be separated with a bridge, then I think it's time to install bollards at all grade crossings which rise out of the ground on both sides of the crossing once the crossing gates have lowered. Since most drivers have only PLPD insurance or no insurance at all, I would love to see the invoice to the offender for the damage they've caused to the railroad in addition to fines from law enforcement for these types of accidents. Second, I'd love to see a new system in place where drivers licenses are immediately suspended 1-yr first offense, 5-yr second offense, 10-yr third offense for people who run around crossing gates, blow stop signs, and red traffic light runners. If drivers can't follow the rules, remove their driving privileges. These types of drivers are an extreme danger to themselves and others on our roads and the only way to correct their destructive behavior is to completely remove them from the roads. Then if they are caught driving on a suspended license, they are immediately banned from driving for life, no exceptions.

    • @chrissavage5298
      @chrissavage5298 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trying to get around a railroad stop I understand, but as for stop signs and traffic lights, people just make mistakes sometimes. Yeah people should be as safe as possible while driving, which would avoid said mistakes, but still. Accidentally running a stop sign and losing your license for a year is a huge inconvenience and maybe a little extreme. Not every case is the same.

    Couple of questions: Why have 3 locos pulling 12 passenger cars? Isn't that wasteful of energy and resources?
    In many of the shots, the rails seem to rise up in the middle and drop towards the near and far. I would understand if that were a regular road for cars, but that seems like quit a grade for trains. Is that some effect of the lens or camera? Or, do the rails really go up and down that much?

    Never assume there's just the train you see. Here in Texas, a cop responding to a call did something similar. Two parallel tracks and he waited for the train that was passing left to right in front of him, then the second it cleared, he floored it straight into the train passing right to left on the other track.
