Fun Fact: This was the hottest Grand Final on record it reached a peak of 30 degrees. The record was broken in 2015 when the weather in Melbourne was 31 Degrees

This is the Broadcom version of the game - televised to pubs and many channels outside Victoria / VFL territory.
Foxtel occasionally replay the ABC version, which was the 'real' coverage at the time.

Pre- game bet, Carlton by 5 goals
It made the final quarter exciting and it was a buzz to hear 'You know your football' when I collected
I could see very early in the season Carlton were going to win in '87
They had the lot and used it
Blistering pace all year...no-one went close
Only the bombers in 2000 looked better and I'd pick the bombers v this blues outfit, 87 v 2000...Carlton 13 years ahead if the comp in '87

One of their team mates was in hospital being treated for cancer... and earlier on in the season (you can spot when it happened because Meldrum wasn't the same player afterwards), one of the best players in the history of the sport was horribly injured in a car accident. Meldrum is reported as holding Motley's head together after the accident. It was a somber game for us supporters as well... knowing that we were missing Des English and Peter Motley.

    • @EdukingdomJoe

Pretty broad question. We didn't know about concussion the way we do now. '87, for many reasons, was the year of change. New teams and a tentative attempt to monetise TV rights. Some of the tactics are pretty basic, but it actually made the game more fun. The 6-6-6 rule is an attempt to recreate some of that. The 80sare my childhood, so I'm biased. It was an era of Saturday afternoon games, radio callers going "around the grounds" and declaring, "we've got the close one". Do I miss it? Hell, yeah. @@Jaydenloa2003
