The idea is that when she asked for the food to go, she proved a point. Yes, she was a taker, but she takes because she has nothing. She proved that she is the only one who actually enjoys the art of cooking for what it is. It should be love and love that is accepted. The Ralph Fiennes' character is like the chef from 'Pig,' whom Nic Cage gave the speech to, only it's a few years down the line and he's finally snapped after realizing that everything Nic Cage told him is true.
I think the chef's all being willing to die for the head chef was meant to represent the culture of a kitchen where everyone is subservient to the head chef.

Realizing they'd given up their ideals, their morals, their identities, their very lives to become something so empty. All they had left was their craft. And the menu wouldn't work, if they lived.
The mother represents complacency. That's why she was there. Same with the female chef. Despite the sexual harassment, she never left and just put up with it. The reason he lets Margo go at the end IS because "it all has to come together." The final dish has to be the death of all these joyless, passionless, fake, tools of people who think only of themselves. Margo proves she can empathize with another person (hitting on the cheeseburger) and that's why he let her go. If he had added her to the final dish, it would have ruined it.

alex is a chef?!? we need food and cooking segments with all you guys. That would be so funny. you can do video game or movie themed courses or whatever you want. We would definitely watch.
I had a interesting meal in Spain at De Nior, which is a dining experience in complete and total darkness in the dining room, you didn’t know what was on the menu until the end. They employed blind waiters to seat you and serve you. 4 courses and 2 drinks. It was definitely something I will remember forever, well worth the price.
I had the same experience but a cheap cafe, not a fine dining, just regular pricing, all darkness, serving food in pitch black, staffed by people with visual impairments, all to spread awareness... (the place went bankrupt long ago) I remember one of the staff (who doesn't have visual impairments and was wearing night vision goggles) said to me, "wow you really clean the plates" and I was, "yeah I licked them clean cause I thought no one would see."
I’ve heard about those kinds of dining experiences. I’m way too paranoid about someone else handling my food even when in total illumination so I don’t think I could ever do that.
Hmm interesting. I would’ve assumed this movie would’ve been somewhat divisive because it definitely divided the heck out of my group a bit. My sister thought it was garbage, my brother thought it was ok, my other sister had no thoughts and I thought it was pretty good. I saw what they were doing, really parodying foodie culture and how cult-like kitchens and chefs can really be. Also how some chefs and restaurants stray away from making actual fucking food and instead opt for just a very adorned and minimalist dish instead of something a lot more fullfilling but less artsy like a cheeseburger.
So I have worked in both fine dining and BBQ. The guests as wild as they are were highly believable and have seen some form at my tables before. The staff being that cult like is real, high end chefs do run on militaristic lifestyles and discipline at that level cooking. Obv they are turned to 11 for a movie, but the pressure to impress, break ground, or be recognized can break a lot of people in their chase for that perfect food kind of stuff. As a viewer me and my girl who is in the industry this was very much wish fulfillment of what some dark thoughts at closing at 4am about terrible guests and critics. It broke down every person point by point at their worst, which commonly reverse they do to us about food for free, so seeing it returned and so planned out was chefs kiss lol. The tacos alone made me die laughing in the theater 10/10 will likely rewatch soon just for Tylers Bullshit scene among others. SPOILER: the loop hole at the end is perfect, because it rewired his brain to robot cook and please while giving her an out that fits commonly in culinary terms. PS: Alex look of judging them about grilled onions 25:56 on a burger made me believe he really is the cook HAHAHAHA
As an industry worker at a fancy restaurant, this movie hits home pretty hard. The commentary is equally hilarious and depressingly true. The tensions between those who cook nice food and the socialites for whom it's intended is a constant in the back of our heads when all we want to do is make the best food possible and appreciate the craft.
I love these guys so much! Absolutely makes my one hour drive to work something I look forward to. All three of them have unique and distinct perspectives and personalities. Love the Angry Joe Show
It felt like a starter and main course, that were so good that when the Chef said "Sorry no desert" the disappointment was countered by my "full stomach" lol (I'd have loved a slice of cheese cake but i suppose i didn't really need it) but ultimately i wanted my dessert (hence why the next step was an Angry Review lol) great film but leaves you wanting a little to much more, making it an 8/10 x
28:58 "who does take french fries to go?" I literally just went to Hardrock at Universal Studio the other day and to go my fries. I ends up throwing it out since the very next day was our day to leave the hotel.😂😂
The guests were way too calm when facing death, the chef might have put something in their food to make them docile, since Anna Taylor Joy's character didn't eat most of food she wasn't effected
@@epidemic1207 But that’s nuts how it works when you are on fire. Your brain takes over and tries to escape that heat, whether you want to or not. It’s like actively drowning yourself. You can’t simply submerge yourself until you die; your brain will seek oxygen with it without your conscious consent and will shoot to the surface. Those guests on fire didn’t even leave their chairs. Absolute bollocks. The film had zero verisimilitude and I didn’t care about anything happening.
I disagree. There was absolutely nothing to suggest that he put anything in the food. Especially with him being such a perfectionist chef - i don't think he would add anything unnecessary. I think the guests did a good job of "walking on egg shells" the whole time because nobody really knew what was happening most of the time. They acted like how you would act if you believed there might still be a way out of this if you didn't provoke.
Also: a few of the guests DID properly freak out. One of them having the swift justice of having a finger chopped off. And if you remember - towards the end the chef literally brought up the fact that if the guests wanted to they probably could've bum rushed them all and it probably would've worked. It just happened to be another convenient personality quirk of the kind of cowardly, spoiled, and sheep like people that he selected to the dinner in the first place
Dang, I didn’t even catch that the old couple could’ve EASILY named tacos as one of the dishes they ate before. Just shows that their obliviousness is through the roof. 😂
Been watching you guys for a long time! So excited to see this movie! Local bartender at a restaurant here in Austin, so I know a lot of places in town, but you for sure should try the bone marrow at j carvers! So delicious!
I thought the movie was pretty tasteful and well done, I enjoyed watching. That said, I thought the ending could've used an alternative route. For example, Erin/Margot could've heard the explosion, but in her angst to get the he'll out of there, continue to go away. She THEN realizes that the motor stopped, the energy went out and shes trapped in the middle of the ocean and accepts the fact that she was also part of the menu (because we don't know anything about her, it doesn't make sense that she is watching them burn on this higher moral level and survives). Margot then sees there's nothing else to do but eat a burger and accept her fate. Idk, a little twist at the end would be the cherry on top
I was CERTAIN there was going to be someone in the water with a knife to deal with the final loose end at last. "Not part of this" or not, I found it weird that one moment of respect and understanding gave her her life.
Such a great movie! I felt bad for Leguizamo's character, but I'll be damned if I didn't burst out laughing at the justification. I was able to suspend my disbelief enough because of how solid the main story and the drama was, and the phenom acting by Fines, Holt, and Anna Taylor Joy (and supporting cast, like the Asian hostess) were such a joy to watch!
How the FUCK did Joe not say the word "Menu" like in his Sonic Riders Review ("And the MENUUUUUUUUU!")!? How do you miss this obvious reference cause i sure af couldn stop saying MENUUUUUUUU everytime i read about this movie somewhere.
I agree with OJ you barely get anything on the plate, yes it is good but not worth it imo,but to be fair I have a buddy that works at a top notch restaurant and makes stuff when he comes over and I love it.
So I believe he hand picked his staff as he was the best and of course the best and most passionate would want to study under him. They could have included some recruiting type scenes, but I like that they didn't. The staff represents the middle class and poor finally saying "no more". It was a dark comedy and I thought it was gonna end with the big C so I was definitely asking for the ride. I loved the twists and messages. I grew up in this industry, was in it for 30 years so I really can't recommend this movie enough. Go see it!!
My family getting mad at me at every restaurant as I grow up - "...do you guys sell Cheeseburgers, and Fries here?" Psychotic Chef ready to mass murder all the snobs - "Yes, would you like that to go?" Me ready to murder the Chef - "Yes."
@Ribotto Studios , as you should. Parents should strive to create a better world for their successors than the one they enjoyed. I have no idea where it suddenly became cool to say, "my parents have the financial acumen or forethought to set aside a college fund." 😂
Have you guys thought about review "all quite on the western front"? Imho one of the best movies this year and kinda oldd youmiss out on it while review movies nobody ever heared about
I used to have this thought whenever I would watch "Hell's Kitchen" and they would cut to the diner's reactions to Gordan Ramsay's food. how these pretentious LA people were not worthy of the food/art he would create. It's a great concept.
I feel like the only one who does not see why everbody cums over this movie. Admitted, Ralph was amazing, there were some good chuckles and suspense in first half and then it just goes and becomes somewhat bizare and all of the sudden people accept being burnt alive while one chick goes home - no questions asked? Also, why is everybody so obsessed with Anya? She was fine here but nothing more. She is basically the same character in every movie/series I see her: the snarky attitude-girl that is seeing two time-zones at the same time. Cool, but nothing to write home about. Amusing movie but as a "Horror-Dark-Comedy": what were the huge laughs? Where was the scary/fear factor? And where is the biting, sharp critic? Good moments but ultimately lacking for me.
As a chef I've worked in different kitchen environments. From the classic french military style upscale kitchens to more team focused and small kitchens. Currently a private chef. I'm excited to see this movie. The Chef consultant on set was 3 Michelin star Dominique Crenn. I can imagine the food and setting looking so pretentious but accurate.
As a former professional cook/sous chef, I can tell you that kitchen brigades can be like cults. Especially if you work under an old school European chef.
Do the captains table dinner on cruise ships. The experience is close to what you see in the movie. The ending of the movie is the only logical ending that supports the point of the film.
@32:43 also, they all noticed she didn’t eat anything. She had to leave by their standards because everyone else was on desert. She is just eating her entree. They couldn’t s’more her if she was still eating, and a chef wants you to finish and enjoy. She left and enjoyed after on the boat…….just saw this movie. This shit was crazy. I asked if it was a cult, and when the guy shot himself, I would have bumrushed the door with a table
Just finished this movie. Loved it. I think because all of the attendees (except for one) play it straight, the movie was much more successful at selling the concept than a movie like Mother..
The ending is a huge stain on the movie. She says she's starving, he makes a burger, she takes a little bite, and all of a sudden full? How does this work for Slowik at all? She's insulting his intelligence.
He understands perfectly and she knows he does. Ultimately she is just not the right..ingredient for his dish. Though I feel logically he should have let her off the hook at the start then...
You werent following. She gave him the oppurtunity to remember his old life running a road side burger joint, to truly enjoy cooking food again. In return she offered him an out to not kill her based on his own twisted restaurant rational, his ironclad "plan". He wanted to let her go as she didnt fit the plan but neither could he think of a way to let her go because of the same. She offered him a way to let her go. A meal "to go", which he gladly accepted.
@@vaisravana2092 thats the thing tho, he's insane, planning to kill people over something they dont really deserve to die over in a logical world, but he's following his own set of restaurant based rules. he couldnt thnk of how to let her go until she offered him one based on his insane rationale.
@@tenjenk No, from the very moment she stepped foot on the island, he had made up his mind to kill her. He never entertained the thought of letting her go until the end for some stupid frivolous reason. It's a stupidly illogical move for him to be chastised by her all evening, make a burger in the same environment and with the same ego that all the other food is made with, have her not eat it because she's full after one bite while being famished, and then let her go? Him remembering his old life also doesn't excuse anything about the movie. What he hates the most is still true and he's still dedicated enough to kill himself and his employees over it.
@@IronicallyMature I'm not talking about earlier in the movie but that particular scene. That moment at the end when she makes the order. When she asks the order to go, he see's the opportunity to let her go. Otherwise he would have killed her as well. you're saying stuff like "stupidly illogical" and "him remembering his old life doenst excuse anything", but you just saying so doesnt make it so. You're either inherently misunderstanding his established insane reasoning or just obstinately refusing to see what others do. She wasnt part of his plan, but his plan still involved killing everyone. Him realizing she was a fellow service worker from a poor background wasnt enough but when she made him feel the wonder of his past and used an excuse to escape based on his insane restaurant based rational, he was more than happy to let her go. She gave him a taste of happiness and satisfaction before his death. He was grateful. He saw she didnt meet any of the criteria he had chosen the others for by multiple degrees of separation. You're wrong on every point. He didnt make the burger the same way in the same environment. He made it the old way like he used to. When he was making it, he was no longer in that restaurant, he was back on the road side in his little cooking unit. What he hates is still true and so he still kills himself and everyone else, except for the person who reminded everything he once loved was still true, enough to let them go for the right reason. This doesnt need so much explaining.

I knew he looked familiar.
No

alex is a chef?!? we need food and cooking segments with all you guys. That would be so funny. you can do video game or movie themed courses or whatever you want. We would definitely watch.
It would have been crazy if they had Gordon Ramsay as the chef.
Was he at the premier?
I had a interesting meal in Spain at De Nior, which is a dining experience in complete and total darkness in the dining room, you didn’t know what was on the menu until the end. They employed blind waiters to seat you and serve you. 4 courses and 2 drinks. It was definitely something I will remember forever, well worth the price.
you're literally who this movie was making fun of.
I had the same experience but a cheap cafe, not a fine dining, just regular pricing, all darkness, serving food in pitch black, staffed by people with visual impairments, all to spread awareness... (the place went bankrupt long ago)
I remember one of the staff (who doesn't have visual impairments and was wearing night vision goggles) said to me, "wow you really clean the plates"
and I was, "yeah I licked them clean cause I thought no one would see."
Matthew- what food did they serve?
I’ve heard about those kinds of dining experiences.
I’m way too paranoid about someone else handling my food even when in total illumination so I don’t think I could ever do that.
@@frysurf8218 they’re making fun of evil and snob people this guy is just eating food. Stop being a pr1ck
SPOILER:
the loop hole at the end is perfect, because it rewired his brain to robot cook and please while giving her an out that fits commonly in culinary terms.
I feel like if Alex was a director this is the film he would make but just a little better from him.
I love these guys so much! Absolutely makes my one hour drive to work something I look forward to. All three of them have unique and distinct perspectives and personalities. Love the Angry Joe Show
Yeah but Angry Joe is the worst
It felt like a starter and main course, that were so good that when the Chef said "Sorry no desert" the disappointment was countered by my "full stomach" lol (I'd have loved a slice of cheese cake but i suppose i didn't really need it) but ultimately i wanted my dessert (hence why the next step was an Angry Review lol) great film but leaves you wanting a little to much more, making it an 8/10 x
First time I saw it, I was unsure if I liked it. So I saw it again a week later, and it is 1 of the best movies I have seen this year.
One of the RARE times I’m tuning out before the spoilers! Gonna go see this movie tonight. Alex, you me and a French onion soup cook off. Bring it on.
28:58 "who does take french fries to go?" I literally just went to Hardrock at Universal Studio the other day and to go my fries. I ends up throwing it out since the very next day was our day to leave the hotel.😂😂
Honestly shocked you guys skipped Barbarian
Wasn’t worth the watch
Also smile
I was extremely disappointed with that film.
@@fpmclovin2014 WRONG.
Smile>>>barbarian
The picture of Chef at the burger joint was the only one he smiles in. Could have been one of his first jobs
Just watched this on HBO max it’s so good. Really enjoyed it. Thanks for the review !!!
I don't miss working high end restaurants like this. Now I work at a golf club making more money, but with a fraction of the labor. It's really nice.
Man Joe just can not let other people talk without interrupting
Did you know..that its his SHOW!!!!!???
@@divingindeepspace5429 then why have other people on?
@@divingindeepspace5429 okay fanboy that still doesn't excuse interruption
Hes drunk, you cant hear him slurring?
And the MENUUUUU!!
The fuckin' MENU!!
The guests were way too calm when facing death, the chef might have put something in their food to make them docile, since Anna Taylor Joy's character didn't eat most of food she wasn't effected
No, they faced reality and accepted their destiny. Karma for all the terrible things they have done.
@@epidemic1207 both perhaps
I love John Leguizamo he has a versatile acting ability he can do comedy drama action and would love to hear Gordon ramsey review on this movie lol
Omg the perfect line for when she eats the cheeseburger and walks out is "I'll have what she's having"
Kind of disappointed you did a whole review but never mentioned Ralph Fiennes name as the chef..... Seriously the best actor in all of Hollywood.
Favorite course for me is the "Poor Man's Bread" course. Being intentionally vague to avoid spoilers but if you've seen the film, you know why.
Spoilers ahead
I would've found it a nice touch if they served Margot bread reiterating that she doesn't belong on that side
@@he1802They did, in the end. Burger buns.
I'm beyond ready to go see this movie. looked awesome.
Loved it! Definitely 9/10
"Tyler's Bullshit" gotta be the most delicious and expensive dish in the world. I bet Gordon will love it too! 🤣🔥
The cheeseburger was the only good looking thing I saw in this movie but I guess that was the point they were trying to make
How the FUCK did Joe not say the word "Menu" like in his Sonic Riders Review ("And the MENUUUUUUUUU!")!?
Go see it!!
Hmmmm, so Alex's cream of love is the secret ingredient. 🤣
“Where the bill is $200-300”. At a Michelin starred restaurant? Maybe for one person if nobody’s having anything to drink.
My family getting mad at me at every restaurant as I grow up - "...do you guys sell Cheeseburgers, and Fries here?"
Psychotic Chef ready to mass murder all the snobs - "Yes, would you like that to go?"
Me ready to murder the Chef - "Yes."
The foodie did claim to be a good cook. Early in the full he claimed to own a piece of equipment that they have in the kitchen.
"do you take out a student loan? no.... You're gonna die" 🤣 best line in the movie!
man I feel really blessed my parents had money set aside for me to go to college. They're not rich or anything just middle class too.
@Ribotto Studios , as you should. Parents should strive to create a better world for their successors than the one they enjoyed. I have no idea where it suddenly became cool to say, "my parents have the financial acumen or forethought to set aside a college fund." 😂
Angry Joe's Fine Dining Review. Let's go!
*stab head chef in the throat* "It's all apart of the menu! He said it himself right after the fourth course" *Roll credits*
Gastrorology - take your food to the stars!
Toriko! ?
when we getting Alex's thoughts on Wakanda Forever? :D
Have you guys thought about review "all quite on the western front"? Imho one of the best movies this year and kinda oldd youmiss out on it while review movies nobody ever heared about
Theory: Tyler killed his girlfriend. That's why he had to get a plus one.
Interesting, but i could only see that happening if he told her about the death part and she tried to storm out, so he stopped her... Permanently
Joe looking fresh with that cut😎
Could you guys review the bear on disney plus? Dinsey plus show also predominantly set in a restaurant. Absolutely loved it.
literally just got back from seeing it and see this!!! thanks guys!!! i loved it
"Gastrology." and Alex just turns his head down and lets the boss talk.
Other Joe: Can I just get some fries and chicken tenders? Some ranch, maybe?
"Slots Light!" "Free Moneyz!" haha
A major blockbuster film where chef ramsay refused to be a part of how sad I really liked the food; brain food.
Ralph Fiennes is excellent in everything he’s in. I liked the movie overall
Seems like Voldemort got a new gig 🤣
We saw it this weekend and it was really good. I thought the ending was a bit off, but overall great movie!
I agree. They just gave up and decided to be killed
As a former professional cook/sous chef, I can tell you that kitchen brigades can be like cults. Especially if you work under an old school European chef.
Thanks for the recommendation, just went and saw it. Very interesting/mega weird movie but it was entertaining/captivating
Do the captains table dinner on cruise ships. The experience is close to what you see in the movie. The ending of the movie is the only logical ending that supports the point of the film.
$300 bill is expensive??? what year is it?
So not true what you said there about Will Ferrell Alex - "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga" was awesome.
Could vlog the fancy restaurant visit with Joe and review it
Alex is the modern day version of Deuce Bigelow Male Gigolo.
Gastronomy Joe, it's gastronomy.
"nomy" It's derived from Greek and French.
This movie felt like an A24 film, and I loved it.
The coast guard scene was hilarious
