As an American, I am so proud of Canada. They deserve to win. I always felt they should have qualified in 2018. In the third round of the 2018 qualifiers, they should have beaten El Salvador and Honduras. Had they made it to the playoffs they would have defeated Australia. I watched the game at the gym and felt so proud of them.
One thing I think going overlooked is how much qualification for Qatar helps boot momentum on a nation-wide level heading into their duties as co-hosts for the 2026 World Cup. It's very similar to what happened here in the US. They went 40 years without making the World Cup but qualified for Italia 90 four years before hosting the 1994 World Cup which I have always believed helped tremendously in making that tournament such a success. And I think it will be similar for Canada, though with only two hosts cities

What is really sad is that Canada has had the talent for a long time. But the National team was just mismanaged for decades resulting in players no wanting to play and those that did just didn't give it its all. The last two cycles Canada was Canada's biggest enemy on the pitch. We may not have qualified but we had the talent and skill to be in the Hex and at least make a serious go of it. This cycle scoring goals has been the big change. More than 5 goals for every one goal scored against in all rounds (54-7) and just shy of 4 for every goal against in this final round (23-6). That has made this much easier. 13 of Cyle Larins 24 goals have come in qualifying during the last 18 months and 9 of Johnathon Davids 20 have. Canada scored more since Herdman too over than they have in the previous18 years. While an exaggeration it is much less of one that you might think, Canada has scored 107 goals since he took over.
OK but how did Canada develop into a country that could qualify? MLS? Better coaching standards? Kids watching soccer on TV? Hockey being priced out as a viable option?

The 1986 team was no exception, but just like the Americans in 1950 their amateurish nature gave them a drive to win for expossure and oportunities very few teams had and they didn't do half bad. Having won the gold cup in 85 they went on to win the NA Nations Cup in 1990 and 1991. The 2000 team was but a thing of the moment. But I for once challenge the naysayers and grimm predictors who say Canada has no chance wince they've not played any real team, levelwise to me they are at the same spot as Costa Rica was back in 2014 and can do just as good.

Then if (and this is a big if) one of those three teams make the Semifinals or 2 of them make it but aren't playing each othere they automatically should play in their home. Same goes for Gold and Bronze Medal games if One of the three are in they play in their own home country.
