    That brought back many happy memories. I worked for SAS for over thirty years and loved first the DC9 and then
    the MD80.....got to fly in the cockpit once CPH-LHR...........fantastic!

    You can tell that Owe, the captain, is an old fighterpilot. Going in hot at Åre/Östersund and flying all visual. Not even a glare at the instruments! During the 50s to 90s most of the pilots at SAS where former air force pilots.

    Hello dear Viking Wings team thank you for these great shots from this beautiful aircraft. I work as an aircraft handler at Munich Airport and I handled the MD82 of Scandinavian Airlines myself when it was still in service for Scandinavian Airlines.

    I love this wonderful craft! The tri-national SAS are still among the most important MD-80 operators in Europe! End of october 2013 the last MD-80 were retired! Since 1977 to 1999 I had many flights with an MD 80 from SAS! I flew from Frankfurt to Stockholm, Copenhagen or Oslo....the flights were pleasant and I always felt save! I never forget a flight to Stockholm just before christmas! The plane was adorned with silver stars and tinsel ❤️ Good times, I will never forget....

      There is a tiller on the left side of the Captain. Just below the window. Like a little steering wheel. At 18.35 you can see it clearly.

    Did anyone notice the fuel weights of the the left and right wing levels? Right is 1350 kg heavier than the left wing. Also notice the Captain correcting to the left to compensate. Am I seeing this correctly?

      Noticed that he was holding continuous left aileron and suspected there might be a fuel imbalance -- but didn't think to check the fuel gauges. Maximum imbalance is apparently 1500 lbs. Hm...

      The MD-80 is a beautiful, old school machine but there is no need to dump on pilots flying newer airplanes.
      Sure they are a little easier to fly but they are still demanding and a lot of work to fly.
