Before the rich clubs started building American-style mega stadiums, most British soccer stadiums look like this; they all started tiny 100 years ago, and have been expanded however they can to fit into cramped neighborhoods. This is also how Fenway Park got its bizarre dimensions, and nobody would dare change that.
Except Fenway is a national treasure and this is.... Georgia Tech.
@@Riley_Mundt Fenway Park was built in 1912. This stadium was built in 1913. If anything, both stadiums have claims towards being historical treasures.
@@harrisjordan7492 Except people actually like the Red Sox. People settle for Georgia Tech.

@@supermoneyball420 We've found the person with the degree from Georgia Tech, with not even a hint of grammar comprehension.
Tech grad here. Your video is spot on. Saturday day games in September are scorchers, but the Thursday night games are awesome. Hopefully Brent Key will turn things around and there will be more Thursday night games again.
I mean shit, the FSU upset was a nice way to start off the year! Good luck to you guys.
My mom had a cousin who went to GA Tech and we gave him crap for going to a nerd school and not even using his degree (he changed to seminary for grad school and is now a Presbyterian minister lol)
Did you finger blast any coeds in the old stands during your tenure there?
Respect I’m actually in Auburn graduate, but I’ve always liked tech
@@frederickshaibani5655
That MISCREANT how dare he do that😆😆
To Georgia tech credit, that stadium's good for one thing. Upsetting FSU fans every single time
FSU is 7-2 there since 1975.
Go to a night game at Bobby Dodd when all the skyscrapers are lit up and you will understand why people love our stadium so much.
I love driving I-75 through Atlanta at night for that very reason.
@@crkmt pro tip: BLAST Hey-ya, the ATL national anthem while you're driving south on 75 at night or north around the Grady Curve. It's the peak Atlanta experience
Yeah it's awesome!!!😆😆
Bro sounds like he is hosting a murder mystery radio show.
When he’s not cussing.
Love the Jon Bois reference and the shoutout to the 222-0 game, love that story
It's one of my fav stadiums and I'm not even a GT fan. It just syncs so well with Downtown Atlanta. Seeing the skyline from the stadium but the boxing in of the stadium makes it feel homely and part of the urban feel. It feels like a neighborhood basketball court, not some fancy stadium that tries to make the city appear more fancy. Idk that's my opinion
The pessimist will call it ugly while the optimist will say, "It's got variety!"
I actually love the way this stadium looks. I like asymmetrical stadiums. They are way more interesting. And there’s a cool history behind it all. There’s a story behind every weird edge and angle.
Yeah it’s basically an ancient Levi’s Stadium 😂
One of my favorite places to watch a game. The sky line is amazing
Worked at this stadium over a year ago and explaining to people how to get to one part of the stadium to the other was the most difficult part of dealing with this place. Sponsorship was over in the east stands, senior administration was in the north stands, and everyone else was in the building that is now becoming the Fanning Center. Getting from one place to the other would be different every time.
GT Grad here, been to plenty of games at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
I would like to see the west stands replaced and made to fit in with the rest of the stadium. Even if that means getting rid of the original ones underneath. That part of the stadium is so far out of ADA compliance that they can't touch it other than basic maintenance without bringing it up to code. It's why the North and South stands built in 2003 don't attach to it.
The overhang you complain about here isn't there anymore, it's been removed as part of the construction in the northeast corner you mention. It was odd, I'll give you that. Thankfully it won't be coming back.
This stadium is the weird kid of stadiums, it does whatever it feels like and doesn't give a damn about what you think. Which is why I love it even though one time we played there they stole our jerseys and we had to play in GT practice jerseys with the player names written on the back in Sharpie. THEY STOLE OUR DAMN JERSEYS, FIVE! You can probably guess who my team is by that alone.
That description fits everything about Tech tbh. Gotta love it, it's a drinking school with an engineering problem but somehow manages to be the 3rd best engineering school in the country
I think it’s awesome. Love the jumbled together nature of old college football stadiums. GT’s fits so well within the fabric of the campus/neighborhood; no ugly mass of parking lots.
Georgia Tech may not have been good recently, but always seem to be entertaining, good for upsets and crazy games.
I've been to a game at Bobby Dodd, a Sat afternoon, late fall game, it was pleasant, the views of the city are fantastic. And it doesn't have that wind tunnel effect you get at the former Turner field on a cool day. But the crowd was pretty blah, nothing compared to going to an SEC game where the fans are borerline psycho. I can actually see the back of the north endzone from where I'm sitting right now, I get glimpses of the team practicing some days if I'm not too busy, so I'm getting a soft spot for the program, hope they continue to improve. Oh and you were DEAD NUTS on about I85, its a parking lot daily from like 3PM to almost 8PM both ways. If your considering moving to ATL, DONT, go to Charlotte, we're all full here.
I imagine parking for this game is an absolute nightmare.
it's in a big city, just walk there or take an uber lol
It’s bad, usually take the subway down just so I don’t have to deal with it 😂
Not if you like concrete parking decks for tailgating.
@@jsouth2129eh not rlly. ive been to many games n parked at the varsity w no problem every time
Take the MARTA subway, it’s smarter…
It's an engineering school. Form following function seems to be spot on. I love it.
The REAL Ramblin' Wreck of Georgia Tech!!! ;)
Dawg fan here. I love BD Stadium! So many great memories there! ❤
Many more coming!!
I have been to nearly every home game since 2005. The stadium is amazing for all the reasons you mentioned but it also fits in with the personality of the school. Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech. It is a hodge podge of parts that are just made to work. When the team is good and the stands fill in it can be one of the coolest places to watch a game from.
"The parking lot that is I-85" No truer words have ever been spoken.
I was recruited by Tech for football in high school and have a profound memory of what the stadium looked like before some of these more recent additions. 25 years ago the stadium looked pretty good all things considered.
In addition to Georgia Tech, Bobby Dodd Stadium was also home of Atlanta United for the 1st half of the 2017 season while Mercedes Benz Stadium was being completed. It also hosted soccer matches during the 1996 Olympics alongside the Georgia Bulldogs stadium in Athens.
I was at the Tech game last year vs. Bowling Green. While seeing the skyline is excellent, getting from one place to another inside the stadium is a challenge, to say the least. Plus, if you are single-game parking, get ready to walk a ways to the stadium.
"So what yard line are our seats?"
"30 yard"
"Great!"
"We are in the corner. 30 yards diaganally from the end zone corner. Best seats i could get."
Across the pond, there are/were several soccer stadiums that have/had asymmetrical stands and expansions which look "haphazard" like Bobby Dodd Stadium such as Man U's Old Trafford, Liverpool's Anfield, and Chelsea's Stamford Bridge.
That’s the way college football is
The architects of Levi's Stadium looked at Bobby Dodd and said, let's make a modern version
It’s definitely a stadium only a Tech fan could love.
An engineering school's stadium is abstract and focuses on character and atmosphere rather than brutal utility?
I am shocked.
Being connected to surroundings is usually a good thing, and a good reason to be asymmetric and/or weird.
Campus is actually in Midtown, little nitpick but it's pretty much all north of north ave, meaning its not downtown
I am a GaTech fan.
Me and my AWESOME Dad(R.I.P) had season tickets .
Where our tickets were @ no longer exist.
I have some great & not so great memories of BDS.
You did a good job on this report.
Whoever did the actual construction must have been a helluva helluva helluva helluva hell of an engineer.
Better salesman 😂
It's Georgia Tech. Of course they're going to have great engineers
What if Georgia Tech really just wanted to set off somebody's OCD? Seems like an interesting home field advantage when players on the other team are more focused on the asymmetrical design rather than the game.
I actually like all this crazy asymmetry. It's reminiscent of old time baseball stadiums that were designed to fit into a city block.
You made me want to go to a game there. I love historical stadiums.
I see nothing wrong with this stadium other than it looks kinda old (and old school by proxy)
I love a stadium that is asymmetrical. Shows that it's grown slowly over time.
7:57 WHAT
Adam pumping out videos mire frequent than his dates.
You should do a deep dive on that 2013-2014 auburn team. Somewhat forgotten after the loss to FSU but immortalized by the miracles at home.
As a Georgia Tech fan, what I like about Bobby Dodd Stadium is that the north stands give you a perfect view of the Atlanta skyline which looks awesome at night games. It's one of the best photo shots in college football. I think GT needs to play a third of their home games at night especially against big rivalry games like FSU and Georgia because it leads to some epic moments like "The Miracle at Techwood".
BC plays at alumni stadium witch is similar except no skyline view big exception
Joe Aillet Stadium at Louisiana Tech sucks. I’ve sat in the section that extends past the end zone and it’s horrible. There’s a lot of after thoughts that went into this horrible design.
Hearing Techwood Dr as an old wrestling fan makes me smile.
Been to a few games there. It's a fun atmosphere and worth checking out. Some cons are that the concessions are minimal, and south-facing bleachers get hot.
Crazy thing is, this isn't even the wackiest stadium in Atlanta. Georgia State plays in a converted baseball park, which was itself a converted track stadium from the 1996 Olympics.
you should take a look at St james' Park in Newcastle, England. same issues with not being able to build on certain sides of the ground
watching them beat FSU was beautiful
Thank you, I could watch an hour of this. But 7:15 was unnecessary 😂. Go Jackets
Loving the Burlington Sock Puppets hat!
I was there for the Block 6 vs my Seminoles in 2015. Came into the game on a 29-game win streak vs conference foes. We played so terribly that the final play didn’t “sting” as bad as it probably should have. At least the skyline was beautiful! Also, Tech fans, splitting the title with Colorado was a bunch of bunk. GT should’ve been the one and only.
Thanks
This why I hate college football fans. All your stadia are not important to the team on the field
Just a heads-up, Grant Field didn’t host the game against Cumberland College. It was at Cumberland College.
These are always fun.
Raising a Guinness to you, 5PV! Thanks.
I saw your short, and I was not happy with that. But now I forgive you since you released this video which is pretty honest. I am a Georgia tech grad, and I used to stay in two of the dorms that you talked about on the block next to the stadium.
What are they called as a whole? I couldn’t figure that out - each building has an individual name…
@FivePointsVids I knew them as Area 1 Dorms. Lived in Tower dormitory from 1970 for a few years until I moved off campus.
@@FivePointsVids We usually just refer to them as east campus.
Yeah no need to get upset. Go Jackets!!!
this is what you see with Collgiate stadiums. The college has to build it themselves and often campuses don't have space to build new (as this one clearly don't). I like these types of stadiums over the gotta have a new one every decade that the NFL is doing. Easy to complain about a venue when you don't own or maintain the damn thing.
The garbage stadium is not garbage because there are valid reasons for why it's garbage? I didn't follow that logic.
Should sue the architect that designed the expansion.
Engineers, am I right?
Imagine having a beautiful stadium, good team, and beautiful view, with one of the best atmospheres in college.
You’d have the ducks 🤣
Why would they need a bigger stadium? So Uga and Clemson can get more fans when they play?
The "Trade School" students got to you, didn't they?
GT students get employed after college, UGA students get welfare checks
@@NA.NA..or traffic violations.
@@NA.NA.. Going to need some Aloe for that burn.
Have you seen the Georgia State stadium? The took the design for a proper stadium and then lopped off the visitor side to only leave a tiny, tiny, tiny visitor seating section.
I have been been to 33 d one stadiums this one is in my top five with the view of Atlanta
cool vid
Bobby dot? That's a new one...
The student section is less desirable to the football players.
Love your stadium videos. More information and much less annoying than Depressed Ginger.

AUBURN Alabama usually beats us round November.. We are an improving program is Ayburn?
The building at the south endzone is called Wardlaw, not Wardlow. It housed the Institute’s Development (fundraising) and Communications offices for decades before the Athletic Association kicked them out a couple years ago. Many of the offices on the second floor had incredible views of the field and the Development Office would always host high level donors there during games. I worked there for years and have a lot of good memories of the place, it was a really nice building to work in. It’s been completely redone now that Athletics took it over though.
I remember what happened when my NIU Huskies went down to Georgia
It's cool to have unique stadiums out there. It's like when Boise State went to the blue turf. It was cool and gave them a unique identity.
Also those overhang stands in the north end zone are gone with the new building if that helps :)
U think Saturdays are hot there? Go to fresno during August-October
needs a slight renovation to it.
I don't mind a few seams to break up a bulky look.
@@shanekeenaNYC they should enclose the stadium but leave certain areas open for the fans to walk around. like the fieldhouse.
Great video! I can see it both good and bad--but do find this stadium kind of charming. You being an Auburn fan or grad provides you with some expertise, as you probably have a lot of experience watching shitty football. Aside from your one title delivered by a professional, I find it hilarious that an Auburn fan should cast aspersions concerning college football.
At least they aren’t Georgia State
Have you ever considered an ode to haphazzard stadiums and arenas of the world?
If you compare this with UGAs it makes you wonder which school is the "engineering school" 😆
The skyline views from Bobby Dodd are unmatched in CFB. Yes it's a weird layout, but it's an urban campus.
Woah woah woah was that a Burlington sock puppets hat?
Finger-blast?! All of your dissing of my favorite venue is forgiven!
Wait…did he just say finger blast?!
With Georgia Tech’s money you would think they would build a world class stadium even better than the Mercedes dome!
I am five seconds in and already angry. lol
all joking aside, good video. and yes, the overall atmosphere and view of downtown, especially during night games, way overshadows any negatives the stadium's design has. If you haven't been to a game at Bobby Dodd, especially a night game. Get to one ASAP
I’m still wondering why they didn’t just do a massive renovation/rebuild at some point to make it both larger and more-symmetrical
I thought it was interesting when Notre Dame Stadium went up from 59,075 to the current size by building around the original stadium. Mainly because I came up with that idea when I was 13 and thought it was a stupid idea almost immediately. (I think they made it work, though. Full disclosure, and one I make on Tree's vids way too frequently but you know, if he would stop dunking on the Irish I wouldn't be commenting so much -- my dad graduated from Notre Dame, my mom worked in the bookstore, and my sister was baptized on campus, so I'm kind of a born Irish fan.) I've never heard of a stadium building _over_ a pre-existing stadium and keeping said stadium intact though.
(... also if Tree stopped dunking on the Irish he wouldn't be Tree. And that's fine. And this year they kind of earned it.)
Oh man, if you really want to see a lopsided stadium, check out Bridgeforth Stadium at James Madison University.
Canes fan here. I love Bobby Dodd Stadium!
As cool as aerial photography is, experience wise I guess it's realistic as having your profile picture be the top of your head. Accurate, but not what you're actually looking at, unless you have a serious height dilemma. And you still aim for the face. I mean, dimensions matter, but when I saw the short, I had a feeling something bigger was going on.
Wish they hadn't gone to artificial turf.
Nice Sockpuppets hat.
the collegiate version of levi stadium

...." like ur mom"
I wouldn't really say longest continually used stadium. That would be Penn's Franklin Field and then there's Dartmouth Memorial Stadium which wasn't continually used well, because fire. Even Washington at St. Louis's Francis Field is older. It was used for the 1904 Olympics.
Mr Pyle .They make that distinction always have.
Why are there solar panels with grass inside?
Or did they try an amphitheater?
