Besides being about grief it's also about how we put the out an almost phony idealized best version of ourselves on social media. Our vulnerabilities and negative personality traits are what make us human, and the versions of ourselves we portray on facebook and twitter usually don't convey that.
One of the worst things was the fact that the upsell of level android was essentially done by the facsimile of her husband. How F-ed up is that? How do you say no to the voice of your husband asking to become more real?
If anyone that's lost a loved one watches this episode, it hits so much harder than you think it would. It really pulls at the same emotions you go through.
Such an incredible episode. It'll be interesting to see as technology advances exponentially and if that plays into how we grieve. It's already in some form with social media pages staying active after someone dies. The ending scene, I always took as a metaphor with how we keep those emotions close to us after we lose someone and revisit them, for better or worse.
The scary thing is this technology actually exists in real life, well not the voice/body but inventors have created a program that replicates a deceased friends personality through texts and emails based on their social media history. IIRC the family of the deceased person were not happy about it and actually referenced the Black Mirror episode and how it doesn't end well.
Wait, what!? Really!? Holy crap...that's rather disturbing. The only episode that truly made me feel ill was the "Shut Up and Dance" episode only because I know such technology and methods exist today where you can be spied on through your laptop cam (I have tape on mine. Lol). But for the technology of THIS episode in particular that mimics the deads behavior based on social media doings!?!? That makes me very uneasy.
Love your Black Mirror reactions...this show is fantastic, but damn is it a struggle to get through these eps without feeling deeply nauseated or sinking into a mini-depression.
I loved this episode! One of my all time favourites. The next episode, White Bear, was the first episode I ever watched, and it really screwed me up for a long time. This series really plays with your sense of morality and what's right and what's wrong, so interesting!
I recall having contact with a girl on Twitter whose brother had gone missing. It became a celebrated case and I can only imagine how painful and distressing the situation must have been for her. While waiting for news she watched this particular episode...
This was the episode I said you should watch if you wanted to give Black Mirror a try way back when I first mentioned it to you. The was my favorite episode until season 3 came out. I agree with you that this tech put her in a situation where she could not move on with the grieving process. Black Mirror deals with tech that seems like it may be possible in the near future. The scary thing about this episode is I think step one and probably step two could be done today. If we do not have laws for it, we may want to get some.
OMG!!!! Been watching you react for years now and never knew that styrofoam had the same affect on you as it does me!! Yeah you can chase me from a room with just the threat of squeaking the stuff. LOL I actually used to have to have my parents remove my presents from the stuff when I was a kid, lol. Wow - thought I was the only one lol. BLESS YOU, hahaha!
I binge watched the first 2 series yesterday and thought as his name was Ash he'd go crazy (Alien reference). I also happened to be eating a packet of marshmallows.
I freaking love this show so much. But yeah its definitely hard to watch. The thing I love about it is that for the most part it creates these really interesting what-if scenarios and tries to show what it would be like if they happened as realistically as possible. In some ways it's like a modern day Twilight Zone and it's just so awesome.
I think the horse has bolted on this episode but I have only just watched it. Wow it was sad at the end with the copy just used as a mere puppet. Felt sorry for the poor machine! Such a powerful episode and highlights the importance of letting go when someone passes. Equally though to value the ones you do love and appreciate how cool and fab they are because we are all mortal. Looking great too Jess. When you started tearing at the end I wanted to give you a big hug - I have noticed I feel others pain which is certainly not very alpha male LOL! Anyways appreciated the content and can only hope you thumbs up or reply to my comment :) Matt x (36 from the UK by the way)
I sort of wish the episode ended after she screams while on the cliff. It would make it more difficult to understand and watch. Probably frustrate folks that it ended there but I think it reaches a nice, emotional level there. As for would I purchase a body double like she did, no. I think the phone calls would be as far as I would go. But I could see how obsessed one could get with it and it would be harder to finish the grieving process. I enjoyed the episode though. Thinking about how something like this would work after my bad passed away when I was 13 and how I would react if I had something like this.
Just like putting photos in the attic. Just like Ash was saying at the start. You can go and look at photos in the attic to remember, photography being the latest technology of its age. Is this so different? Where does it end?
Awesome vid jess you are looking absolutely stunning .Hope u had a great day. Jess always remember you can do and achieve anything don't let yourself down and get stressed . Ignore all the haters be strong looking forward to your next drwho reaction peace .☺☺☺☺☺😊😊😊😊😊
As a widow, I found this one profoundly disturbing.
I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine that kind of pain.
This was my favorite episode. It was so well written.
Doc Creed They all are so well written..

This episode made me so uncomfortable. Probably because I couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't give into the same grief if I lost my husband.
Ritchie Anyone who's been in love and didn't want it to end can empathise with the plight of the central character.
One of the worst things was the fact that the upsell of level android was essentially done by the facsimile of her husband. How F-ed up is that? How do you say no to the voice of your husband asking to become more real?
I'd probably get one to hang out with as I don't believe in moving on when your spouse dies but I wouldn't be intimate with it, that's wrong.
This episode made me cry
If this episode didn’t have the final scene in the attic, it would probably be my favourite. That scream on the cliff oh my GOD
I agree!
Such a beautiful, tragic episode. Probably my favourite of the lot.
If anyone that's lost a loved one watches this episode, it hits so much harder than you think it would. It really pulls at the same emotions you go through.
Keeping our loved ones alive in some fake way is sadder than just letting go of them when we have to, even if the death was sudden or untimely.
anthtan death is always untimely.
Don't forget to watch the Christmas Special "White Christmas" after this season!
Veikko Elo best black mirror episode ever

No it doesn't. Quit lying. If something like that existed in real life, everyone would know about it.
I'm really enjoying your Black Mirror reactions. I'm so glad you decided to add this to your shows. I hope you feel much better soon!
One of the best and at the same time saddest episodes of Black mirror.
Love your Black Mirror reactions...this show is fantastic, but damn is it a struggle to get through these eps without feeling deeply nauseated or sinking into a mini-depression.

Ah a new Black Mirror reactor. Can never have too many of these.
lol basically
I recall having contact with a girl on Twitter whose brother had gone missing. It became a celebrated case and I can only imagine how painful and distressing the situation must have been for her. While waiting for news she watched this particular episode...
@The GOAT MJ Yep!
U gotta keep watching more of this show!

You know what would of made this episode perfect, if they ended it right after that scream.
was just about to ask if you are continuing Black Mirror hahaha!! YAS
This is the only episode of Black Mirror that I've seen i loved it. Great reaction! :)

Moral of the story never go for beta model
Haven't watched yet but I find it amusing that you had your hair tied up in anticipation of needing to vom 😂
This is one of the best episodes!
I loved this episode so much, and I'm low key in love with Hayley Atwell.
OMG!!!! Been watching you react for years now and never knew that styrofoam had the same affect on you as it does me!! Yeah you can chase me from a room with just the threat of squeaking the stuff. I personally liked this season more then the last one,I think this is a series that gets better the more it goes on
I binge watched the first 2 series yesterday and thought as his name was Ash he'd go crazy (Alien reference). I also happened to be eating a packet of marshmallows.
omg!!! that episode kept me in tears, suffering so much :(
I'm glad you're still doing these 🤗
This is a new level of occultism, talking with dead, but on a whole new level..
You have a very good spidey sense for plot points hah.

Forgot Haley Atwell was in this.

Is this my favourite? Possibly. But kinda nice one, sort of. No? Incredible performances.
And this is why i dont humanise the machines in detroit be human
This episode broke me :(
What is up with the Lion King shirt?
I think Sesskasays is a fan of The Lion King.
You look really beautiful with your hair up
you're perfect
Yay been waiting for this
What the fuck did he say?
Hayley Atwell is amazing. That being said, I don't like the ending. It messes you up
I bet she cried like a baby for the rest of that day especially being sick n all lol
Holy shit... Either you look totally different than usual in this video.... Or I´m still high as FUCK!!... lmfao
You are gonna enjoy 2x02, one of the more unexpected endings of the entire show ;)
Come on! Don't say there's an unexpected ending, for fucks sake...
maverickmak91 Well, all the episodes have unexpected endings, but that in special.
She's already watched it, so in this case it's fine, but yeah don't say things like 'there's a twist you won't see coming!', so dumb.
Mark McKeown Dude, it's not the end of the world okay? Damn...
Well it's not unexpected now is it??????
This show is so fucked up.
