I love David Oistrakh's playing. He is my God under the violinists. The passion and still holding back intense emotions, his sublime skills and technics, his tone is unsurpassed.
It is great to read how much love streams out thanks to the art of David Oistrakh. I cannot see how one cannot love this man. When he plays he presents himself in all his richness; honestly humble in his approach to art. This is what we hear; a single human being's voice, but how this voice is singing... David Oistrakh does not play the violin. He sings on his violin. He takes his time, but he is impeccable in the rhythm. Michael Rabin is another violinist who gives a lot of meaning to my life. He has this capacity that Oistrakh has; to relax in spite of the terror of the beat.
The end of the first movement is extremely clean and beautiful. Third movement seems excessively fast and the spicatto sometimes distracted me from the music. Thank you for sharing this!
I wouldn't call it a bad day, because he plays like a god in the rest , but just a small laps of concentration. Afterall also D.O. is a human being. @@marceloalbuja
It was great until the third movement, which he took faster than his technical ability. It was not clean or musical. Splice the third movement of his Ormandy performance in. In this performance his high notes have great tone. In his studio recordings, the highest notes sound a bit rough. Maybe that is the inability of the 1950s recordings to capture the highest frequencies.
Yeah...I dunno. I mean Oistrakh is my absolute favorite, no questions about it. But something about this performance is just not up there with his usual level of musical interpretation and performance. Maybe it's just Anne Sophie-Mutter's modern/personal interpretation that got in my head. I don't want to sound arrogant critiquing the maestro, just a personal sense.
At first I thought Mr. X's comment was very rude. But after I listened to the 3rd movement I also believed it's not Oistrakh. I can't say about the first two movements because the recording quality is pretty bad. Oistrakh is my absolute favorite but I know he is not 100% technically perfect. Still, one thing I'm sure Oistrakh would do perfectly was his choice of speed and collaboration with the orchestra and the conductor, which I couldn't find any in this recording.

God warned him not to play too perfectly
Il faut croire que Oistrakh avait quelque chose de plus...
-SUBLIME...

Doremi Fasolla Yes he is.

even the great Oistrakh had a momentary lapse in focus. this tempo is not beyond his ability.
Such a waste. Best violinist playing the worst piece. Why did he have to contaminate the wonderful instrument? But as usual, great playing ofc
Music has no borders
@@oldschool553 Nor does my hatred for Mendelssohn
Im sorry it sounded quite bad. It was not a worthy performance.
Sorry, where do You have Your ears? What You write says more about yourself than about the performance.

@@crybabyteamo He has wonderful recordings, this isnt one.
@@mr.x4001 Of the Mendelssohn?? I'm very interested - is there a better/best that you would recommend?

Dude it was only that one famous run that he flubbed! The rest was spot on. The most beautiful second movement ever imagined!
