We are hosting this upcoming year and am curious on your thoughts of how much to try and travel with an exchange student. I feel like we should do as much as she is comfortable with because she is here for the full year but I worry about doing too much and being the crazy people
I will answer this in an upcoming Q&A in more depth but generally speaking I don't think you can really do too much. It's a privilege if you take them places
"...I was at *the* Michigan airport". Ummm, we have more than ONE airport. Yes, really, we have lots of airports up here. That said, landing at many of them will require the plane to circle a few times before touchdown as ground crews chase the deer off the runway... 😉
@@honey27003 We have lots of deer. At supper yesterday, I looked out my dining room window into my south woods, a flash of movement had caught my eye; eight deer went running by. Visiting Michigan really depends on what you like to do. We have lots of skiing and snow sports, further north is better for that. Grand Rapids is a nice small city, the GR public museum is quite representative of the culture of "West Michigan". Detroit is our biggest city, but I wouldn't compare it culturally to Munich or something like that. Lots to do there, but easy to go to the wrong parts. If you like to go boating, there is a place in Travesre City that rents boats for use on Grand Traverse Bay. That's a great place to boat, with a "Big Lake" feel, but without the waves (Lake Michigan can be hard on small craft). The jewel of the state is the Mackinac Straits, with the five mile (8km) Mackinac Bridge, and the lovely and rustic Mackinac Island: they only allow horses there, except for emergency and service vehicles. Horses and bikes are available to rent there. Get there by ferry from Mackinaw City. Shepler's has day cruises that go on lighthouse tours, and also cruise around under the bridge, which is very cool! The maple fudge they make up there is to die for, worth binging some of that once in awhile. Careful about what month you visit. Right now in April, before the spring bloom, it's kind of icky weather and dreary. The midge flies are out up north May, that kind of sucks. January is super good for skiing. Summers are usually quite wonderful, not super hot like down south. Summers are always gorgeous in Grand Haven. And if you miss Germany too much while you're here, you can always visit Frankenmuth! There are places in Michigan with some deeply ingrained German culture. I think the official tourism site is puremichigan.com .
@@honey27003 Yeah, if you ever do visit, just fly into Grand Rapids, much easier, much nicer part of the state, and GRR is small enough to actually be able to walk out. Easy access to major east/west and north/south highways too.
I really want to enroll in a program next year, but my parents don't agree, can you give me some advice to convince them? (I'm 16) and I love your videos!!!
I actually have it on my list to film a video soon on how to convince your parents to let you do an exchange year. So I will film and post it soon. Keep your eyes pealed for that ;D
I am hoping the rude questions didn't come from adults. I mean, teenagers are still a work in progress so I can understand the bizarre and intrusive questions from classmates, but, I hope you won't say "oh no, that was my school's principal who asked me about my grandparents."
I would love if you made some packing videos in late June/early July since I’m leaving in the beginning of august!
I'm also leaving in the beginning of August! :D
Added them to my list ;D

Oh wow. I wasn't aware! Anyway, being at an airport doesn't count. I need to see the North myself

@@infantryshooter That sounds so good! I need to come one day
Let's face it, if she had a layover, we all know it was DTW. No one is doing a layover in Saginaw.

what program?

The rudest encounter was with an adult actually but mostly it was only teens (luckily). Of course it has lots to do with hormones as well :D
