Or you can buy literal substrate from Australia here: amzn.to/3Q2yFh3
That is awesome I would have to buy 3 to 4 bags to fill my 120 gallon lol
@@samuelodonnell5701 do what you gotta do lol 😂
Or you could buy cheaper stuff and then have the other real Australian substrate on top so it looks like it’s all that stuff. Pro tip 😉
Everybody knows they live on tiles and newspaper in the wild, touching sand will make them instantly combust
Lol
PLEASE show us how you do the DIY clay based one!! It looks so great!!
Thank you so much for making this video. It helped me.
Thoughts on using potting soil for Beardie substrate? Either just pure potting soil or a ratio similar to that with topsoil-play sand ratios mentioned in the video.
Ive used it for my snakes, i dont see why you cant use it for bearded dragons
Awesome, I’ve been strongly considering using it but have read some mixed things. I’ll experiment with it, thank you!
Love the video. I am planning on doing a more clay based substrate to hold burrows. What do you think a good ratio of clay to sand would be?
When I did it I winged it, you could do 3rd each. Soil/sand/clay.
Hey. Another great video, love your videos so much. Here in France Australian Natural is not available qt alazon (neither locally). So I am thinking about usind desert bedding and excavator clay mix. Any advices on this? Ratio? Thanks for your input.
Thank you so much im glad you enjoy them 😄In terms of the substrate probably like 70-30 or 90-20 in favour of desert bedding.
@@ReptilesandResearch thank you very much. Jeep doing yopur great vids !
You didn’t say what makes up clay mix
He said he mixes different commercial substrates that try to imitate red sand and also mixing in excavator clay
Do you sanitize your topsoil? I'm considering using soil from my property (no pesticides have been used on it) and mixing it with play sand, horticultural charcoal, and worm castings for my olive python bioactive enclosure. I could bake the soil, but that would be extremely time-consuming for the amount I need (it's an 8'x3' enclosure), and I would kill any beneficial microbes, fungi, and soil inverts. I'm not worried about centipedes or spiders in the soil, but I am worried about pathogens or parasites.
I don’t no, but then again I don’t have snakes near my yard in England.
So i made a substrate with option 3. Along with sowm gravel. But how long should i let it bake for before i expose her?
What top soils do you use?
Question! I’m debating using topsoil and play sand mix for my juvenile beardie… Lots of debates online. Thoughts? I have a rollout carpet that’s a lot less loose (fiber-y). Like it’s pretty flat.
I’d prefer the topsoil playsand mix but I don’t want to do anything potentially harmful..
First beardie by the way!
What do you think of using the Arcadia Earth mix for a bio active?
So I'm looking into a new substrate (may go to playsand) but I want to know if walutshell substrate is really dangerous? This is my second bearded dragon and I used walnut with my first one and never had issues so I'm not sure if it's actually dangerous or not.
Ive never used it, we dont have in in the uk, instinctually id say no if its big chunks
