- Chasing Classic Cars host Wayne Carini shows us and gives us the history of his just purchased 1938 Jaguar SS 100 Roadster, originally owned by Sir Dave Garroway, the original anchor and host of NBC's The Today Show, at the Greenwich Concours d'Elegance!
Interesting to note while the headlamps on Wayne's car are period correct they were not the type the SS100 was originally fitted with. The correct Lucas QK headlamps though large weren't quite so large as these. These were often used on Rolls Royce and Bentley cars and were probably fitted after the originals went missing long ago when the correct ones couldn't be located. Still a lovely car.
This is a great 1938 Jaguar convertible roadster !! It’s white with black alligator 🐊 interior !! I love the original headlights , they are so very racey !!
SS prewar, was the auto manufacturing division of 'Swallow Sidecars', hence 'SS'. Post war, 1945 on, the initials 'SS' had a very different connotation, so they changed the name to 'Jaguar'. It never was a Jaguar SS. But I'm sure you know this! Great content...
Ciao Carini ! lovely SS100, but...if you really love the VW Karman ghia I could procure some for you, in Brazil there're plenty around, restored and waiting for restoration !
I worked on this car, when Steve Roberts owned it: I think it's a shame Carini has erased part of the car's history. Must not have been that important....
Obviously WC doesn't know what is talking about or he is doing!
