  • Hello, while i had both Gain-master 5/8 wave and the Gain-master 1/2 wave next to each other you can easily see how much longer the 5/8 wave is,thats why they are more expensive,i would choose the Gain-master 5/8 wave because its a little longer every little helps.Hopefully this has been helpful in choosing between the two antennas, thanks from Rotterdam....73

Hi,to be honest I think that the difference is minimal, don't have any experience with the Shakespeare antenna, but heard good reports 👍👍, what i like about the Gainmaster, pre set swr ,makes it a very quick and simple set up,now I am happy with my antennas, its time to start on my audio, 🙃🙃,73 from Rotterdam .😷.

How and where did you aquire a "Super big stick"??? I had one about 35 years ago, it eventually secombed to the weather and was going to buy another one, but by that time the Bigstick was no longer produced.

On the 5/8 GM, I cut down the top wire 60" and replaced it with a Wilson 5000 whip and cut 20" of each of the three top fiberglass tubes and placed them down inside the bottom to strengthen it, along with minimizing the top 60" down to a low-drag whip - it can now handle 100mph+ wind gusts atop the 110' tree.

I have installed my Sirio Gain Master antenna on my kitchen roof and without any tuning my SWR is 1 on 1 on 10m 11m and 12m this antenna is awesome but the only thing is that if you unpack the new antenna from the factory you get Fibre Optic glass powder which is all over the fibre optic segments when you handle the antenna other than that everything is awsome about the Sirio Gain Master !!! I highly recommend this antenna!👍👍👍

Hi,yes they are expensive but worth it, if you put a bamboo stick on the inside, it will stop it snapping in strong winds, I was advised, 73s from Rotterdam.

Gain-master 5/8 doing well for me so far, good dx so far and up for 14 mths now, Finnish winter can be harsh, it has done ok during winter, no damage so far, had a Amtron 99 snap back in 2003, wet snow stuck to it, then it went to -25 and the Amtron was a big thick frozen stick, came down during one night,

Hi, thanks for your reply, to be honest, maybe I don't assemble the Gainmaster correctly, and that is why it broke, funny the 1/2 wave Gainmaster looks so much stronger, thanks from Rotterdam 73

I have a 5/8 gainmaster and for dx it is superb , mine sat on the ground leaning against my garage and worked all over europe .It is now up 30ft on an extendable mast. I have had to repair it a few times with fiberglass wrapping cloth this is the biggest let down but i am confident in my repairs .I like this antenna and even bought another one from Radiozing for £50 which had a small crack in the fiberglass which i repaired and keep it for a spare / portable .Against my old imax / and even older Antron it wins easy especially for dx and low swr but for build quality no.

Hi, after spending so much on an aerial only to break, very disappointed, but good for you, fiberglass cloth is a good solution 👍, but I think it's to brittle, so I went with simpler way,and the Gainmaster 5/8 wave is still up,and I use it everyday, mostly 😊. Better to repair, more fun and I learned something, thanks 73

Hi, your are right concerning this kind of antenna ( in fact Sirio Gain Master is an antenna whose name is T2LT ot ' scoubidou ' ).
I use a Thunderbolt SSD58 made by Hawkins radio, it is exactly the same but only with a wire . I bought it but many T2LTare Handmade for a very low cost ( it is only a wire ). SWR is very low et bandwidth fine !
I have removed my IMAX2000 for this antenna. Impossible to compare them but last week i made so many QSO ,then I think it proves the qualities of this antenna. For People practising portable radio I recommend T2LT with a fiber mast ( for example a 12 meters Spiderbeam ). Very easy to install and no bad surprises concerning SWR
At home the Gain master is efficient for a vertical antenna but not solid enough I think it is better to choose a Sirio 827 ( better quality ) or an IMAX 2000 if you can't use radians ( solid but with a lower efficiency ). Just a last thing, gain announced by makers for the antenna they sell are enormous lies. Everybody knows it. By the way congratulations for your radio license PA1LEG.
