Bruce Gary. What a fantastic drummer with immaculately timed licks and blindingly fast chops, yet NEVER overplayed. The band was slicker than snot, and sold a shit ton of records. First show I saw was at Gazzaris in 1978. RIP Bruce and Doug.

Bruce Gary often said that his personal goal was to 'overplay tastefully'...and he nailed it. RIP Bruce and Doug...

Listen to Doug Feiger's music with The Knack (beyond My Sharona), he has a really great musical ear. The Knack's drummer, Bruce Gary was amazing.
Try 'Lucinda', or 'She's So Selfish. ' Awesome drumming!

+John Heidrick Gary was fantastic. I just discovered the entire first Knack album, beyond Sharona and Good Girls. It was a revelation how tight and confident and catchy it is.

Stumbled across this while looking for Knack video, and finally a guitarist has to be the one to give Stevie credit for his brilliant drumming. It lends even more credibility (as if that was possible) to Doug's legacy.

This is why Doug should be missed more widely. From the era of Sky onward, he could write a hook like no other; he had "Star Quality", but, most of all, he knew virutally everything there was to know about music. I really wish that he would have written a book about songwriting or music before he went away.

I saw Stevie Wonder open for The Rolling Stones and John Lennon in 1972. Stevie took a drum solo at both shows!!!

He reminds me of Trent Reznor. (ahead of his time) Bet he would have been a hit in that genra. I'm sorry he got sick. He's playing for the heart throbs in heaven now. Feb 14 2010

I think Doug's hinting at RINGO. Not the greatest drummer but in the context of the Beatles... a pretty excellent band member who kept a good beat. His fills were usually 3rd grade level but he played for the song and that is what you need in rock and pop tunes if you want them to be hits. Singer/lead guitar.... they can go off and solo but usually drums save that for concerts. Unless you're prog rock or thrash/speed metal.

Ringo gets a lot of bollocking, but he's a phenomenal drummer for what the Beatles' music called for. He also got a wonderful crisp sound out of his kit, always. And he could keep a beat, indeed. He was never flashy like some later people like Moon or Neil Peart, he didn't need to be. The Beatles were not about flash and showing off, and overplaying. If the music calls for that, ok fine. It didn't. If Ringo wasn't crackerjack
at what he did, the Beatles would've fired him by 1964 or even earlier.
