Yes Indeed! I struggle with AI because I came in with no understanding but the tools you used today really open my eyes to how simple stuff is made through AI.
The empty spaces inside my letters all block back in when I hit unite?? How do I avoid this to vectorized my final image?
UNITE makes it into ONE SHAPE so the fill is on.You can make a compound path then shape builder and cut out.

why would you not just use the pen tool to trace the entire thing? or at least one side and then copy it and flip it to make the other side? why the rectangles?
Yeh now adobe has the mirror tool too. You can do it that way too.
