Trolleybuses are often thought of as being replacements/upgrades for classic tram networks, so it's interesting to learn about a city that had extensive networks of both at the same time. Thank you for the video!
Glad to see you incorporating more video sources like GPS in lieu of only showing a presentation slide as in the past videos. Btw, I supervised the last construction renovations at Roe Loop back in 1982 I think. The work was contracted to Gazzola Paving back then when I worked for TTC.
Actually back in the late 80s, TTC was to get new trolleybuses from New Flyer which were the E40s never built. Also around the same time, Bathurst and Dufferin were to be trolleybus routes
I still remember I had a single ride on the 4 Annette bus just before they stopped running. I didn't know that they were being discontinued as a kid, but I think my parents knew and took me on the trip before it ended. When I was in Vancouver 4 years ago, there were still trolleybuses all over downtown.
My dad mentioned these buses. He just thought it was funny that we got rid of trolley buses and went back to electric but now have to deal with the battery problem.

Harrisite? something like that, wasn't it? he owns old folks homes now. I bet they are doing as well for him as the province did then.
I used to ride the Yonge 97 and Nortown 61 routes, among others. I always loved it when the poles came off the wires. There was a short overhead wire connection on Lawrence between these routes (not revenue service) and only once did I see a trolley bus use it. This was an historic occasion! When you look at all the condo construction today, the overhead wires would only get in the way if we still had trolley service.
I remember these stupid buses as a kid. The part of the video showing the driver jumping out and running back to reattach the wires was a common issue. Sometimes 4 or 5 times in a single trip. I was happy when the TTC got rid of these. Great video METRO6. Keep em coming 👍
@@conveyor2 What works in one place may not work in another, case in point, Toronto. They were more problematic than it was worth and now with battery electric technology coming, they can be a better alternative to the trolleybus for Toronto

They’re not. Trams are better but trolleybuses have the best of both worlds. If I was in charge I’d ensure Toronto had a similar system to Vancouvers.

San Francisco’s newest trolley buses have batteries that let them take off-wire detours or even bridge deliberate gaps.
We can thank Mike Harris and the (Progressive) Conservatives ending provincial subsidies for ending of trolley buses in Toronto.

Battery's aren't really problem not and they'll get better as technology improves

the old streetcars had this issue as well. there were pars of the network like the tunnels at St Clare west where it always happened.
