We used both as part of our gear in the scout helicopter (OH6A) in Viet Nam. M60 barrel was cut down to the length of the gas cylinder, rear butt stock was replaced by a piece of aluminum made by the armorers to replace it, carry handle gone, bipod gone. We drilled a hole in the top of the right rear door frame of the bird, made a loop out of safety wire, had 2 D rings attached to a bungee, 1 attached to the wire loop on the door, the other to a wire loop where the carry handle was on the 60, so it would just hang, put it under your arm pit, and fire em up. Box of about a 1000 rounds on the floor to your left, feeding the belt with your left hand, always wore gloves. Kept the hammer down and walked the tracers to the target. Using the 79 from the bird was luck and a lot of kentucky windage, but was very effective.
Yoo the windage must been nuts. But you saying it was still effective puts a my smile on my face… definitely in love with the weapon. Even with m16 I’d throw one over the shoulder . My by buddies dad said he sent almost a whole platoon running after a nothing less then a direct hit supporting fire and a second. He said it scared veits or anyone specifically when moving according fields drop 5. In a thump… one’s that survived were are missing pieces or lucky shrapnel in
When we pulled green line defense on an LZ a thing to do during your watch was to get the M79, put one in the tube and two on the sand bags. Then, as fast as you could reload, shoot #1 at a high elevation, #2 medium elevation, and #3 low. The winner was the guy who got all three to impact at the same time. We called it H&I.
Most men ages 20-60 yrs are too young to have any experience w the m60. Im 46 and grew up watching Rambo movies and when i saw him pull that 60 from the truck and light up that town i fell in love with the sound and damage it made. Ive shot many rifles pistols and machine guns but never have seen an m60 in real life. I hope i can becore i die. I know some places will rent them out for the use at an outdoor range lol.😂
Nevar used an M-79 in combat but, I loved shooting on and got pretty good with it. The PBR guys told me that they were expecting M-79, 40mm fleschette loads for clearing enemy junks and sampans. Imagine, a 40mm shotgun!!!! This would also have been good when Charlie was too close for the 40mm round to activate. I left before the rounds arrived.
I have used both the M60 and M240B and I will take a pig every day of the week and twice on Sunday over the M240. The M240 is heavier, more barrel heavy and a heavier recoil, making it harder to shoulder and keep rounds on target. The M60 is also quicker and easier to field strip and clean.
@@mishariealsaqer8951 I think most soldiers, including me, who have used both would say you are full of more shit than a Christmas turkey _bud_ I doubt you have ever been within 15 feet of either one, much less fired them.
I don’t know when you served bud, but I highly doubt your conclusions based on my experience. Maybe in 1965 the condition of the guns was good enough that this were true, but for the last 25 years they have been the saddest, most fried, shot up pieces of junk you wouldn’t believe it.
In 1969/70 we tested a machine gun version of the M-79 with a tripod base and 5 round magazines, but it was impractical for Recon patrols. It required 2 to 3 people to carry the parts, lose one and it's basically worthless might have been OK for a defensive perimeter, but I never saw one again. The M-79 shoulder fire was hard to beat.
Carried the 60 in the A Shau valley in the winter of 69 with Alpha 1/9 Marines operation Dewey Canyon shot while advancing on a bunker complex no hero just another Grunt in the mix 0331
If you are using it against a tank, very unlikely you'll survive the encounter. But if you were lucky you might hit the optics on the tank or the TC if he's unbuttoned with his head out the hatch.

Why not make sure that you are truly saved by Jesus Christ and practice this way. Remorsefully confess with your heart your sins to Jesus Christ who is God and tell Him that you right now are repenting of your sins and you want to be born again of the Spirit from above. Tell Jesus that you are remorsefully sorry for breaking His commandments and that you are begging for forgiveness from Him. Allow His blood from the cross to wash away your sins. After this is done with your heart successfully the Holy Spirit will come to live within you and He will rebuild you from the inside out. Look for signs that you are saved. Things like spreading the good news from Jesus, getting other people saved, a craving for the word of God, reading the Bible, etc… These things are known as a calling and fruit bearing. If you're not bearing fruit then keep doing it. Sometimes it takes time to get saved. Read Matthew chapter 13 from the King James Bible. God bless!!!
Hands down the laziest and most pointless ministry work ever. Why dont you leave off the bible quotes in a place like TH-cam as all your doing is turning people against. Also your God won't be fooled by this lazy shit so really there is literally no upside to doing this for you or others.

And this is why the m60 is one of my favorite lmg's
This is a heavy machine gun
@@zde1532 it's a light machine gun

The M60 is a medium machine gun. It can be operated handheld and mounted. It was replaced by the M240

My driver and I drove the back roads of II Corps. He carried the M-79 plus the M1911. I carried the AK-47 later the M-19 plus the .45 as well.

MOST EXCELLENT M60 and the M203 !!
💪🔥💥💯✔👍👏
Imagine pulling up with an LMG in Civil War timed and they got muskets and you just mowing them down
Sounds crazy...but the muskets did a pretty good job mowing them down too though...
The ones left over from Vietnam were {also} sold to us in Israel. Fine tool
@The Empress That is the best blessing. That it won't be needed

A whole 7 min documentary on 2 weapons. Truly in depth.
Gun on helc

Spikes Tactical sells a civilian legal 37MM launcher replica. It's spot on.
My grandad shot a M14 with a Grenache launcher attachment

The M60 compared to an M240 are similar but the pig is a better weapon.
@Scott Murphy As you said more reliable
I’m pretty sure that most of the soldiers would disagree with you there bud 😅

I’m a grenadier in the marines we use the 320 by itself like the m79 and not under barrel like the 203

@Willis Scott ... You mean like the USMC Mark 19 40mm automatic grenade launcher.
I love history
I love wars

Have served its time through the vietnam era up to the 2000s was ok for those times was very durable mobile easily maintain
M60 was my favorite to pin down enemy when we climbed hill in 1969….killed lots of VC with that…
Imagine having to lug a M 60 thru the jungles of Vietnam.
This is my call of duty cold war load out
what happens if you shoot a tank, say a t-72, with the m79? what kind of damage would it do?

Fired both weapons before I went to Vietnam and when I got there in 1969. That M60 was and is a heavy son of a bitch to carry around.
Why not make a large tube fed version of the grenade launcher. Like a large shotgun shell
that would be so heavy it would possibly earn the nickname "sow"
Ulrich Kälber just an aluminum tube below the normal one.

They did exactly that. Wasn't standard issue
Wow, the Marines were actually ahead of the curve on new weapons development?
the concept of projecting grenades as an attachment afterthought amuses me. haha
why not just shoot grenades at 300 rounds per second?!
Muito bom
The newest version of the m-60 is a way better lmg than the original.
Not a fan of the pig 🐖 (M60). Also please make video about the Milkor M32 grenade launchers used by USMCand SOCOM units?
