Will the second terminal be as big as the first? Or bigger? And with the expansion of the second runway and the construction of the 2nd terminal will we be seeing larger planes coming to the airport? Such as a350s or even 777s?

It is highly unlikely that we will see regular flights operating with wide-body airplanes. On the other hand, there is a handful of charter operators that could potentially operate with bigger planes during the summer season.

I don't have the figures, but the expansion easily looks bigger than the original terminal, so the terminal space has more than doubled in size. The runway was expanded a few years back to be able to handle larger planes (B777s, A350s, etc) which require longer runways, so that's now technically feasible. But whether they will come is up to market demand and how the airlines respond to market demand. Thessaloniki passenger traffic has grown a lot in recent years, but airlines generally prefer to fly smaller aircraft more often (especially on shorter routes), rather than larger aircraft less often (which they tend to do on long-haul routes). Thessaloniki's passengers overwhelmingly fly to/from regional destinations (Europe, Russia, Turkey, Israel), and there is insufficient demand for direct flights to long-haul destinations.

Will there be jet bridges to the planes or those awful busses?

Jet bridges are not planned for the moment. Maybe they will decide to add them in a future expansion of the airport terminal. So yeah, we're stuck with the awful busses..

@@kostaskg No, there won't be jetbridges in this terminal, simply because there's no space. Sad! The cheapest possible option. Jet bridges would require the terminal located more afar, and the aeroclub relocated. It would also require some sort of people mover between the two terminals, which would cost even more.

The airport management (Fraport) decided against jetbridges at the moment, as a cost-cutting measure, as Chris pointed out. Odd, since other European airports of similar size have jetbridges. But it looks like it the design of the new terminal easily allows for jetbridges to be added. The lack of jetbridges also allows for more aircraft at a time to use the same gate, maximizing the amount of passenger traffic relative to the terminal floor space (again, a cost-cutting measure). Like most Greek airports, there's a lot of seasonality here, and passenger numbers surge in the tourism season. But in the future, if they add more terminal space, it may justify adding jet bridges. For the time being, Fraport desperately needed to upgrade the airport asap, so this was the optimal solution.
