I confirm DCT is absolutely great, no one can shift as fast as DCT. I.’m riding bike for more than 40 year, so shifting gear is very completely natural, but nevertheless DCT really frees up my mind so 14:40 I can put more attention to pickup my best line in the twisties. Very relax ride 👍
Cars and trucks went from manual too automatic during my lifetime! This is a natural progression of technology !!! Auto is great for urban and Hwy driving! Just get rid of the heavy weight, my check is ready to write $$$$ 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Well said! This AT is my dream and next motorcycle for sure HOWEVER I'm jealously looking at Smokey's green CT 125 even more than at the AT! I would be running this bike fast for sure while AT rather slow-ish... 🤪My Transalp '23 is still more than enough for sure.
Ik rij al 13 jaar (ofzo) met een DCT. Eerst de Honda Crosstourer DCT, dan de Africa Twin 1000 DCT en nu de Africa Twin Adventure Sport 1100 DCT. Ik zou niets anders meer willen. Rijdt gewoon heerlijk. Een gewone versnellingsbak is 75 jaar oud, DCT is nieuw. Love it!
I’m looking at getting a 2025 AT Adventure Sports when they come out next year. You and others have made a great argument about the advantages of DCT. I was a little against it at first but those who have tried it say it’s incredible. I like the idea of having a manual shift option with the paddles so it’s there if you want it. I have a Triumph T120 that I will keep also. Thanks for the great information!! Cheers from New York and best of luck.
I'm with you regarding the 21" front wheel. I prefer them and, as you say, they're far better with obstacles. Also, yes, the really powerful bikes are unnecessarily powerful. The KTM 890AR is my ideal bike - it'll give the bigger bikes a run for their money on the twisty mountain roads. Good vids. Very entertaining. Thanks.
I love your choice. I just bought a brand new Triumph GT Explorer. I was too short for the Rally Explorer. I couldn't touch the ground. I traded in my Royal Enfield Himalayan. I will miss that bike. I wish Triumph would give you some products to show. I would have loved your input on them. Sticker was $25,000 USD and it was on clearance for $16,999. I couldn't pass up the deal
Yeah Triumph....like I said before I tried contacting the marketing boss soooo many times. E-mails , text messages and even 2 dealerships told the Triumph marketing boss about me and never got any response 😞
I do agree about the power delivery, I keep my Buell XT with only 95HP because it is a fun bike to ride. My 105HP KTM 890SMT seems more powerful than my 135HP BMW 1250GSA. I tested the KTM 160HP 1290 and although it was a lot of fun, it didn’t give me the joy of the GSA or the KTM. The KTM is the bike that I use 90% of the time. I do not agree about what you say about the size of tires. A 17" front tire is more flickable but more important, you get much better input from what is happening with the front wheel and as such you get more time to react when it slides.
Amazing video man! I always thought I'm not enough old to drive duct on car, but never even thought on bike. But you make me think about it. Still not sure if is my cup of tea, but I'll give it a chance... definitely.
I have 2007 KTM 950SM in mint condition. Serviced by official mechanic every year. I tried many motorcycles last year. I had in mind selling my 950 and getting something new. I was aiming for husqvarna norder 901, tried it, didint like it, it just did not feel right. Tried 790adv and 890adv, i liked them better than 901, but still they feel cheap made in contrast to my 950SM. I tried 1290adv and 1290adv r. They ride like my SM, a lot of grunt, around the same until 100-120kmh, after that 1390 kills it on the road. But i dont need that. I tried 1300gs, yes it feels like sitting in the clouds, but boring to drive. Also too much $$$ to give for a bike. So I decided to do a full dissasembly and service of the engine and replace what ever can be replaced on my 950 at 80.000km, turns out the engine is in perfect condition. Old 950SM feels better to ride than any of these bikes. And they are not much of an upgrade over it. (mechanical clutch? ughhh). But I yet have to try honda DCT. Maybe I will like it.
Echt ook mijn keuze! Alleen de nieuwe Ducati multistrada V2 ben ik ook wel nieuwsgierig na. Lichte motor 199 kilo met een nieuw 937cc motorblok.Maar DCT is lekker
I can understand you absolutely, even if I am a 1300GS owner. Personal preferences are the only important factor. And I would probably also have the ASA, but at the time I bought it, it wasn´t a thing yet. With modern bikes that have quickshifters/blippers, you only use the clutch to stop and get rolling again anyway. So why bother with it at all. I originally went to the local Honda/Triumph dealer near me (same dealer for both). Was in the shop 4 times, wrote 3 mails because I was interested in the AT and the Tiger 900 Rally Pro. Never got any answers to the mails and noone was interested in my money apperently, even when I was visiting their shop. So I went to BMW (originially didn´t wanted to spent that much money, but I am a bit of a Boxer fanboy an looked at the AT and Triumph becasue of the price and their very good looks). Was in the shop, got a testride on the 1250GS and the 1300GS and bought the 1300. Really happy with it, don´t regeret the money at all.
The 1300 GS is an amazingly good motorcycle! Been riding it multiple times and I really love it as I said before. The Honda just feel better to me for now 😁
Can't see anyting wrong with DTC or E-Clutch myself (not tried one, yet) after all they are a manual 'box with electronics contoling the gear change fasteter than fingers and feet than can move. Good explanation of 21 inch wheel advantage. Agree with you BHP thoughts, very rarely used all 109 of my old XTZ1200 and I'm more than happy with the 114 of my Stelvio. I probably owe you a few coffees for the entertainment and information you've given me, off to do it now. SEEEE YAA!
I am very satisfied with mine Transalp 2024 but the 2025 Africa Twin [basic] smiles at me😅. But I've seen the new Ducati multistrada V2 [2025] and it's also super cool. Wait for your test Smokey !!!!!
I’m ready for your new channel: Smokey Boots. I think you will start with the TET in januariy and in 2026 we will see you on the TAT. Then, Africa, China, etc. etc. Thank you! 😄
I don't know about Karoo 4 but I changed Karoo Street to Dunlop Trailmax Mission because rear tire is loud and disappears rather fast. Dunlop's have more than 15k km done and look a way better than Karoo Street after 8k km!
AWESOME STUFF.... I understand you. Excellent bike. No arguments with any of your reasons as I agree with you...... When this bike first came out.... some years ago..... I ripped it around the beautiful streets of Bangkok like a Huper super moto in heat for the first time and was incredibly impressed with it..... yap... really liked it... for a... chain driven bike 😅.... but... I sure would love to see someone pop on so Shinko or TKC s on the... Stelvio with an unrestricted Arrow out the back... and just let er rippp and shred and stomp and make non ending smiles knowing that you don't have to mess with the grungy chain and stuff.... I need that left handed lever thingy to go with my left foot thingy. DCT is cool... but I am older and crazier than you and I need the levers to shift gears for therapy.... think of Muscle memory... 😅( maybe someone gets it 🤔 😅) I seriously do love your choice here... as I said, I do understand you on your decision. If I had to stray away from a single sided shaft.... I would probably want exactly what you have here..... with the Left side Lever 😁🤗🌴✨🙏🌴🌴
Its my favorite adventure bike. Only reason I bought a GSA1250 is more pillion comfort for my wife as we enjoy touring. Honda is a stunning looking machine as is the Ducati Adventure. New GS meh!
Hey Smokey, you’re used to open category, big horsepower bikes like your 1290 SAR. Are you going to tune the Africa Twin to see how much power you can get? 1100cc could have more to give - Honda keeps their engines under-stressed.
Hi Smokey, did you do a video on your GPS mount and installation? Thinking my next bike is going to be an AT, but Honda doesn’t seem to offer a setup for a Garmin. Great videos thanks!
Hi Smokey I tried an 2018 DCT model. The biggest hate I had was it’s very top heavy. Compared to my 20 year old bmw gs. The gs feels lighter around the city. Is it still like this?
@ in my many years of riding (mostly sports bikes) the only bikes I felt so top heavy was the T7 a Varadero and the Africa twin. The gs feels more natural than most bikes even if it’s like a gate 😂 The channel is great. Keep up the good work.
8:23 , not available in the USA. I had my deposit refunded on a new '22 Africa Twin (MTrans) by the largest Honda dealer in Texas. Was told I couldn't put a depost on a '23 because the dealer wasn't getting any '23s with MT. I purchased a '23 Ducati DesertX and have over 21k miles on it already. As for the mom's basement comment. Between the DesertX and a Panigale V4, I rode for almost 4 hours today. Do you two even watch the vids before posting comments? Or are you both devopmentally challenged? 🤔
To say that Africa is more exciting than the 1300gs sounds like crazy talk to me. Africa is like a boat on sticks while the gs is like sport limousine. And saying that you almost fall asleep on the highway should be a pro for gs and con for Africa!! I think that people have been used shitting on bmw that they forget how great bikes they are producing. Great video though 👍
No don't get me wrong , I have done many miles on the GS1300 and it's a very powerful limousine!! But I have owned over 10 Honda cars in my live. Most of them Honda Civics 😂. I compare the Honda Africa Twin with a Honda Civic 1600cc 16V , the BMW 1300GS with a BMW 5 series 😁. The BMW might be more powerful but the Honda gives me a bigger smile on my face 🙈
Come on Smokey, yust give us your usual opinions with this bike.. it's no point to compare with that big adventures like GS , Multistrada, KTM..they're all in another league, maybe comparation with Tiger 900 gt pro.. and yes, when your chaanels become bigger all you try to proclaim like "Independent Journalist",, We (subscribers) have no problem with- Who is paying you until you give us proper content.. ofcourse your job have to be paid to be able to entertaining us..Cheers!
Having to prove the dct so much means…..riiiiiiiiiight. Cars have four wheels so the auto makes sense. It’s ok you bought a big fancy scooter. No worries
Website is in opbouw , dozen designs komen eraan 😁. Nog heeeel even geduld. Ben ook met Honda in bespreking want ga mss een nieuwe Honda Grom weggeven bij de launch 😅
I tried the DCT and I konw it is not for me. I stil have to try a standard AT but not a lot of shops still receive them. Only DCT 😪. I am also considering T7 World Raid but I wonder if 75hp will not be too little. I have a KTM 1290 SAR and it is true that the full potential of the engine is never used. I want to do more off road but also keep having a passenger with me and going on highways. First the KTM has to go, then I will test other bikes
You need to compare with desert X not multistrada, 3 weeks ago I bought the exact africa twin minus the DCT, I got it from the Middle East, used for adventure over there, in US you are very limited woth options.
No the Desert X is a totally different bike as it's more off an offroad bike. Can't compare this Honda with the Desert X if you ask me , they ride soooo different 😁
clutch is more than just for changing gears, removing the possibility to slip the clutch on technical trails and even in some fast dirt roads is not good.
De AT ontbreekt vooral koppel. Uitacceleren einde bocht komt 'm serieus tekort tov de BMW. Ik had een AT, overgestapt op de 1250, en nu de 1300. Mijne reiscompagnon komt koppel te kort met zijne AT (non DCT)
Great bike I guess if you have the money, I would hate to see the price to replace the clutch or replace a leaking fork seal or shock seal. Like the old saying goes, I can afford a Porsche but can’t afford to keep it going. Then again most owners never either do the miles or keep them long enough to worry about repairs out of warranty. 😂😂😂😂 Not much DIY to do on these babies.
I love the Africa Twin, the only problem is my GF cannot put her legs on the steps when having some suitcases on the bike, there is no space. So I am still riding a R1250 GSA, best bike for riding with a passenger.
2024 , the 2025 model that can be ordered from now on has the two shades of blue switched. So light blue is now dark blue and everything dark blue is now light blue 😁
You've got to be kidding me. I rented a Honda Africa twin. DCT in Ecuador and it was absolutely terrible. It could not anticipate. Your gear selection. I would only recommend it to young people that don't know how to shift with a standard transmission.
DCT is usable, or WORTH having, only if you have a Cruise Control ! Bikes without it - WILL start slowing down, if the throttle is let go - not twisted - which, almost everyone after 40 ( yrs old ) MUST do - to shake off the numbness in the hand, from time to time. Honda is a stingy company. They LOOSE the marked to Chinese, but insist on making only their most expensive bikes usable 🤷♂ So those who can't afford, or simply don't need a 1100cc bike - go for another company ( if their well being is worth anything ), or - buy a Honda with manual gearing.
im 50 since i was about 6 i used a clutch to pull off and to stop, apart from that never used it through the box never no matter what bike so WTF is the point of DCT for morons who cant ride or what?? its garbage
Smokey having a auto africa after ktm it's like finding out you like a maaan after having 2 kids 👹😜 Still love your content and wait till you back to orange beast... ✌️😎😜
Honda have buy far the best automatic gearbox in the motorcycle industry, but if you come from a background of riding enduro, you know that a clutch lever is a must when riding off road. PS: Those side panels are insanely expensive 😅 Honda WTF! 😳

Best TH-cam channel,i like your new bike! Cheers from Serbia!
Thanks mate and thank you for the Superchat! 😎👌🔥
Agree, the feeling the "emotions" that the AT gives are incomparable.
Its more than just a new "bike".
It's so weird to explain but most Honda engines make me feel happy 😂🙈
I love your choice. I just bought a brand new Triumph GT Explorer. I was too short for the Rally Explorer. I couldn't touch the ground. I traded in my Royal Enfield Himalayan. I will miss that bike. Could you please make comparison of the new Ducati mutlistrada V2S compared to your AT ? I'm considering both as my next bike but can't decide 😅
My dream bike but the manual version
If it wasn’t heavier I’d have bought a dct rather than my manual,I think off-road it would be great.
I will do some fundraising to acquire one 🙆🏾♂️🤧… am in love 😻
I am very satisfied with mine Transalp 2024 but the 2025 Africa Twin [basic] smiles at me😅. But I've seen the new Ducati multistrada V2 [2025] and it's also super cool. Wait for your test Smokey !!!!!

Haha not sure I'm ready for those crazy countries with my anxiety sometimes 😅
It's an old saying and it goes, it is more fun to ride a slow bike fast than it is to ride a fast bike slow.
Says a person who cant buy a fast bike
Good choice !
Because its very cool bike to drive😊
Drive it!!!🎉
Smokey, kindly please advise, is noticeable steering/pooling in right because DCT weight? Thank you in advance
D
But Smokey isnt the karoo 4 going to be even louder then the karoo street?
On the KTM it was less loud at 120....very strange I know 😁

I was gonna do it but I forgot it dang it! It's a strong iron Touratech gps mount 😁
Thank you!
Mooie motor🎉🎉🎉🎉 DCT os top😅😅😅😅
Smokey, kindly please advise, is noticeable steering/pooling in right because DCT weight? What is your honest opinion that? Thank you in advance
D
Will try soon , some others asked the same question 😁
if you want to drive an better sounding 1300gs , got one with an jekill and hyde fitted to it. im from belgium so
The front forks look like they have huge travel, does that effect the stability much when going over rough stuff ?
Too much suspension travel will not , not enough suspension travel is where it gets dangerous 😅
Hi Smokey I tried an 2018 DCT model. The biggest hate I had was it’s very top heavy. Compared to my 20 year old bmw gs. The gs feels lighter around the city. Is it still like this?
I don't really feel any issues. But I have to say that with a bmw gs you have a very low center of gravity. Every other bike will feel top heavy 😁
@ in my many years of riding (mostly sports bikes) the only bikes I felt so top heavy was the T7 a Varadero and the Africa twin. The gs feels more natural than most bikes even if it’s like a gate 😂
The channel is great. Keep up the good work.
As a US ADV rider, why am I not surprised this isn't available to us. 🤔 Honda and Yamaha continue the tradition of undersupporting the US market.
What are you talking about there's one of these at the dealer down the street from my house
You need to come out from your mom’s basement, every Honda dealer in the US has the standard Africa Twin DCT in stock.
If they are not available in the US it’s cause we are not a bunch of pussies!!!!!!!!
Roflmao. 🤣 I am just joking.
Say it ain't so !!...no more KTM smokey
Maybe in the future who knows 😁
It is today 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
KTM got rid of MV Augusta and is on the verge of bankruptcy which doesn’t inspire confidence
@@nf4833 - Prices too high and too much tech for a bike $$$$$. Can’t fix tech at home with an owners maintenance book ??!
Thanks
Damn man thank you for the support!! 😳👌🔥❤️🙏
Is there a version of same cc but manual?
Yep 😁

Having to prove the dct so much means…..riiiiiiiiiight.
Cars have four wheels so the auto makes sense.
It’s ok you bought a big fancy scooter. No worries
😂 Good comment 😁👌
hoe kan je de wasproducten kopen?
Website is in opbouw , dozen designs komen eraan 😁. Nog heeeel even geduld. Ben ook met Honda in bespreking want ga mss een nieuwe Honda Grom weggeven bij de launch 😅
The Africa Twin DCT is to heavy, to high to ekspensive, noting is actually good with this ekspensive bike!
I tried the DCT and I konw it is not for me. I stil have to try a standard AT but not a lot of shops still receive them. Only DCT 😪. I still enjoy riding my 2015 NC700X DCT...

clutch is more than just for changing gears, removing the possibility to slip the clutch on technical trails and even in some fast dirt roads is not good.
Hard boxes from Givi with a Honda badge at double the cost. The brackets will have rusted away in 4 years
For every one you hear about, there are thousands of officers and 10s of thousands of cases that you won't hear about.

Ja de 1300 GS is nog wel een streep sterker moet ik eerlijk toegeven. Ook zeker een hele goede keuze. Vond ik ook zeer goed rijden 😎👌🔥
Not much DIY to do on these babies.
I love the Africa Twin, the only problem is my GF cannot put her legs on the steps when having some suitcases on the bike, there is no space. So I am still riding a R1250 GSA, best bike for riding with a passenger.
Is that a 2023 or 24 or 25? You never said.
2024 , the 2025 model that can be ordered from now on has the two shades of blue switched. So light blue is now dark blue and everything dark blue is now light blue 😁
😊❤🎉
You've got to be kidding me. I rented a Honda Africa twin. DCT in Ecuador and it was absolutely terrible. It could not anticipate. Your gear selection. I would only recommend it to young people that don't know how to shift with a standard transmission.
Finger Blasting....“I do not think that word means what you think it means”
Like blasting , fast pulling a trigger with my finger no? 😅
good to see you have embraced your DCT gayness. nice bike tho. 😂
It's ok to be 25% gay 😅
Nice bike, but not the DCT.
So you’re going to sell your station wagon cause you don’t need all the horse power!
700€ for a side plastic. Interesting. And by interesting I mean a total ripoff.
Ignore the dull losers comments...auto don't make you gay
Brazilian voice??? What the hell??
Yeah the youtube auto translator is not the best 😅
Hahaha he’s Gay cause he didn’t bought the DCT 😂
im 50 since i was about 6 i used a clutch to pull off and to stop, apart from that never used it through the box never no matter what bike so WTF is the point of DCT for morons who cant ride or what?? its garbage
Just because you cheated KTM with an Africa, I won't watch your videos anymore hahahahahaha
Understandable 😅
@LifeofSmokey Greetings from Ecuador. I like your videos.
too big, too heavy, over rated over priced, that sort of sums it up---big bikes for blokes with big egos
Okay but in a world where we have quick shifters, we ask again. Why are you gay?
😂😂😂👌
Smokey's gone all soft on us😢 Grandpa will be proud of you bro😂 When you find your cahoonas give me a call😮
Maybe buying a Ducati Panigale V4s with Akrapovic Race exhaust 😂
Smokey having a auto africa after ktm it's like finding out you like a maaan after having 2 kids 👹😜 Still love your content and wait till you back to orange beast... ✌️😎😜
thinking a manual is better than auto is like a frog in a well
😂😂 Sorry champ!! Haha
Honda have buy far the best automatic gearbox in the motorcycle industry, but if you come from a background of riding enduro, you know that a clutch lever is a must when riding off road.
PS: Those side panels are insanely expensive 😅 Honda WTF! 😳
Yeah that was my thought too 😅
DCT and electronic suspension, defiantly gay ,
Defiantly or definitely? And why is gay an insult in 2024?
@@RichardEdwards-dh1oo gay is indeed an insult. but what's more insulting is thinking manual is better than an auto LOL. feels bad for these peasants.
