I think you did an excellent job and don’t take this the wrong way, but always replace the crush washer on Honda oil drain plugs. They are specifically designed to be used once, maybe if you’re lucky twice. I just trust it won’t leak, and it never has on me to this day. I daily drive a 2006 Honda Civic Si 4-door galaxy grey metallic 6-speed manual with over 332k miles. I am only saying this because if the washer began to leak, then it would cause damage to the engine because Hondas are oil pump driven machines. Anyways, nice work. Cheers.
FYI its a 17MM on the drain plug. Remember kids this is a Honda that is built with metric tools (MM) using an 11/16'''(SAE) might strip it out. And always replace the crush washer on the drain plug.

James you can order online but they may have them at the store also.
Great video. Only one thing I would say is that Oil is designed to turn black and can turn after a few thousand so never judge the quality colour of the oil at that short space of time. Great stuff and we all love Mobil1

If the socket isn’t snugged on a screw he can strip it, I appreciate him for the effort in putting out the video on the service being done. Hope he did check for leaks and all is secure run the car to check oil levels . Wheel locks lol

First motor oil change on these 1.5T Hondas is when the wrench icon shows up in the dashboard.
The dealership explained to me that the factory oil has some additives that helps with the 2,500 miles break in.
After that, 15% oil change would be reasonable.

I don't know about the US, but in Czech Republic you may lose warranty by servicing your car outside Honda authorized service shops. Also, the manual says that, if you use 0W20, you should use only Honda Oil 2.0.
Of course they would say In the manual to use “HONDA” oil...

My grandma has a 2009. One button to reset minder. That 10th gen has a lot of buttons just to set oil minder. Nice car though.

Do you prefer your method of tire rotation? The preferred method would be the rear tires cross and go up. So the right rear goes on the left driver side, the left rear goes on the right passenger side. And the one in driver side and passenger go straight back. By the way i like your videos g!! Keep it up!

Nice looking HONDA!! Hmmm, I'd use metric socket at 17mm instead of 11/16 socket. Honda uses metric nuts and bolts. But, that is just me. Also, friendly TIP: But remove engine oil cap and oil dipstick prior to draining oil.

Wish you would have explain the “80 pound torch. I don’t know exactly how that works.
You torque the nuts on the wheels to 80 foot pound torch. You have to use a torque wrench so you don't over tighten them.

I don’t get why everyone is so impressed with this vid. The guy didn’t even remove the oil cap before draining the oil. That’s why it was draining so slowly (due to the vacuum that occurred in the system).

Nice job. Use disposable nitrile gloves, at least for the drain plug and filter removal! Wish Honda had designed the oil filter on the top of the engine. Newer GTI's and Imprezas do. So much easier and no spillage all over!

Hey, actually just did my wife's accord 2.4 2012 oil change today. Was thinking about my 19 SI. I'm at 4080miles. Everything I've read says to just change it when maintenance minder says 15%. I'm not sure because I know this car gets pretty hot. Small turbo makes a lot of heat. Also tuned on tsp stage 1. Thinking I should maybe hit it sooner. Just want to hear ur opinion. Great videos. Appreciate the time and effort you are putting in.

Just bought my 1st Honda, 2018 Civic Hatchback EX, i did notice it only takes 3.7q WITH filter but you pre filled the filter then put 3.7q in. thats going to be overfilled a little wont it?

Wow. Another great instructional video from TTorres! Your videos are like "how to" manuals brought to life. Two questions - at what point will you do your next oil change? Also, if someone has a Honda dealership change their oil, do they also replace the filter and rotate the tires? (I got a free oil change coupon from my Honda dealer because my salesman was a complete jerk to me). Thanks again for your vids - This one is the best yet!

My dealer does the oil change for $35. Synthetic and the filter. Rotation is $12. I would do them myself but I want a paper trail of services

I was just wondering what do you tell the dealership after you do your own oil change. They said if I didn't keep record of every time I did an oil change myself that if something happens with the motor they would void my warranty.

Dad Gum ... need a longer 3/8 in ratchet or a 1/2 drive... Honda's are metric - even most domestics are using a lot of metric nutz/boltz... Nice Shop - Thanks for posting.

Funny - I've discovered if I buy half a case (5 oil filters) off of Amazon the price of my OEM Toyota and Nissan Filters drops to like $5.50 a filter - including washers and those little sticky labels. At that price why not go with OEM ? I doubt it would be different for a Honda.
I'm a high school student and I'm going to get my first car soon! It's going to be a 2019 Honda Civic EX and I'm going to be doing my own oil changes! Do you think a shop would let me use their lift? Or do I need to buy a jack and jack stand(s)?

Mohamed Genidy there may be some DIY garages where you pay them per hour depending on the job, and they have lifts and tool loaner program (while on the property). Worth looking into if you want to do work on your car, but don’t have the space/tools at your home.

Have you ever, during oil changes, or just checking the oil, smelled fuel in the oil?

They are more expensive and Mobil was the brand of the oil
Surely on a car that new, you'd have to use OEM filters for warranty purposes? On service items I never cut costs... I always use OEM Air and Oil Filters on my 9G Civic Diesel.

Does your make a clicking or clunking sound when your shifting gears or does the shifter stiff up on you when shifting from 1st to 2nd???

Whats the reason for filling up the filter with oil? It fills up rather quickly as the engine turns over, am I wrong? And also, can you just rotate the tires like that, are they not directional, which means you need to keep the tyre on the same side of the vehicle because moving them to the opposite side would change the primary direction?
Pretty sure all nuts on a Honda are metric. Your using the closest fitting SAE socket which over time will round off the nuts.

how much does changing you oil actually save you? my dealer only charges $45 and if you buy 4qt of oil it already cost $40 plus the price of the filter.
Ps. idk if there's different methods of tire rotation but the way ive seen it done, only the front wheels criss cross, the back wheels just move up on the same side. By doing it this way, the tires will eventually go to every position ensuring even wear. if you criss cross front and back, they are only rotating between the same two positions.

Unless you are tracking your car I would not go heavier in oil weight. Heavier oil will cause slightly worse fuel economy and potentially increased engine wear due to lack or flow

Directions say 3.7Q, but that includes the filter. If you pre-fill the oil filter, how much quarts did you end up pouring through the top plug?
I made sure it was 3.7 quarts exactly
So it's 3.7 through the top. And maybe .3 or a tiny more to also fill the filter before you lube it up
That’s true
Steven Swiderski should be 3.7 total. You can't really measure how much you pour into a filter (unless you actually measure it with like a measuring cup which would be a waste of time imo.
Just pour a little into the filter and pour the rest into the crankcase. When you get to the 4th bottle, just make sure you have about a quarter bottle left.
With that being said, it really wouldn't hurt anything if you put a little more than 3.7q in by accident.

3k is a recommendation from the oil companies not from auto manufactures. I trust the people warranty(ing) the product. Even my 95 civic was recommended at 8500k by Honda. I know it won't hurt to change it more often but oil changes aren't cheap even if your doing it yourself
